sticky, syrup cake

With wet miserable weather outside and having to stay in for the car to be collected, there was only one thing to do.  Bake a cake.  The girls and I love baking together.  I think the girls secretly enjoy making mess and eating all the mixture rather than the baking itself but its still good fun.

I wanted to make a Syrup cake.  Not only do I really love syrup cake I had also recently been sent some Clarks Maple Syrup to review.  I thought this therefore was the perfect excuse.  I first searched Clarks website to see if they had a recipe for cake.  Although they had lots of recipes they did not have the one I wanted.  I did find one on the BBC website.

Ingredients

225g Butter
225g Sugar
450g Golden Syrup
450g Self Raising Flour
2 Large Eggs
300 ml milk

Method

1. Preheat oven to 140 C

2. Melt the butter, sugar and syrup together in a pan.  Leave the melted mixture to cool for 10 minutes.

3.  Beat the eggs and milk together, and add to the flour.

7.  Allow to cool completely then eat and enjoy.

The girls really enjoyed baking,  My youngest would not put her tongue away and kept wanting to lick the bowl.  My eldest though wanted to make sure we used all the Clarks syrup up

Eating syrup

Whilst we were waiting for the cake to cool I had made some Banana and Clarks Syrup sandwiches, these were really lovely and I think it gave my eldest a bit of a taste of Clarks Syrup.  I think this is why she decided to check it was empty.

Clarks syrup is Maple syrup blended with Carob fruit syrup.  It pours very easily and smells heavenly.  Both girls loved it, as did I.  It went down a treat on their sandwiches.  The syrup cake smelt amazing whist it was cooking.   We could not wait to try a piece.  As soon as the girls had eaten their syrup and banana sandwiches we stuck into the cake.  Yummy perhaps is the only way to describe it.  It would appear Clarks Syrup has many uses and tastes fantastic too.

The Syrup cake is one of those feel good cakes.  The lovely ones you could eat with custard to warm you up and make you feel good.  The kind of cake you can have with a lovely hot drink.  A very 'feel good' cake.  Clarks makes good cake.

This day I love sticky, syrup cake

I was sent a Clarks Maple syrup to review.  It was my decision to make a syrup cake.  All words and opinions are my own.

  2. Looks yummy! We are lucky enough to have the real stuff in abundance here in New England. We even have a sugar house across the street. I might have to try this one in the spring.
