Exploring the land

With the sun shining on a bank holiday Monday we wanted to make the most of our family time and headed of to explore. Our criteria was simple, a place for a picnic, great views, a nice easy walk and not too far away. Living in Yorkshire this was easily achieved.

We are very lucky that Yorkshire water are one of the biggest land owners and that their land is accessible for the public to use. After a twenty minute journey we arrived at Winscar reservoir and had no problems finding some where to park, even on the glorious bank holiday. Parking was free which was another bonus.

Little man decide to have a nap whilst we walked round the reservoir looking for a picnic spot. The walk was calm and peaceful as we listened to the waves on the water. The views breathtaking.

There was a slight wind but the views more than made up for this. The girls perplexed as to why people seemed so small.

After an easy walk we stopped for our picnic by the shores of the reservoir. The girls silent and watching the water, the ducks and general goings on of the reservoir edge. Simply taking it all in.

It is not often we get to spend time together as a five and it was the perfect bank holiday doing soon.

As our picnic drew to an end, we dusted off the crumbs from the picnic blanket and begin a slow walk back round the reservoir edge. The sun setting made for an amazing sight across the water.

The reservoir was incredibly peaceful and it is hard to believe that it is so close to our house. The girls enjoyed exploring somewhere new and having a picnic with me and their daddy. A perfect bank holiday.

As we drove home I thought to myself that I will be coming back here to walk the dogs and to go for a run, it was a truly wonderful place to explore and discover.
