This day I love.......

Now today may be Halloween but if truth be told I'm not the biggest fan.  I do love the younger children excited to get dressed up and am more than happy to partake in the 'treat' aspect.  I'd love to carve a pumpkin when the girls are a little bigger, maybe next year and a few spooky decorations yeah ok.  The problem I have is the mischief makers those few that ruin it for all else, the ones who egg your house and those who make no effort to dress up and still expect a treat.  Rather than dwell on this I thought I'd focus on something more positive.

My eldest daughter thought Halloween was great last year as she got to dress up and answer the door, this year the trick or treaters scare her but she loves the sweets.  She seemed rather reluctant to hand over the bowl

She helped with all the trick or treaters and we even dressed up.  It has been quiet now for quite sometime and my daughter has come to realise the sweets that are left are for us to eat.  After her bath she said' when Mr sun comes to play can I have sweet please mummy?' I said to her ' for helping mummy with the door you can pick a sweet from the bowl for tomorrow' she has put her sweet on the kitchen counter top ready for the morning.

This day I love sweets.

Today I had my nephew with me for the day.  I have been looking forward to this for sometime as my daughter really loves spending time with her cousins and it's always nice for me to listen to her laugh and giggle and to have someone for her to play with closer to her age.

I decided to take them to the enchanted wood at Stockeld Park.  I had never been before but it looked to cater for both a 2year old and 5 year old.  I wasn't disappointed.  Whilst some activities such as the ice skating and skiing had minimum age restrictions on them others like the enchanted wood didn't.

We spent the morning in the maze which neither child had done a maze before.  There were 4 different points to find in the maze and lots to keep the children amused as we were going round.  It was great fun and we only got lost a few times!  It was even pushchair friendly this made it even better for us.

After lunch we had a walk round the enchanted forest and it really was beautiful.  There were loads of different sculptures, lights and things for the children to see and do as we walked round.  The walk was quite long for my 2 year old but she still really enjoyed it.  There is a variety of different things for the children to interact with and I was particularly impressed with the lake which is just stunning.

We watched the ice skaters and had a look at the pumpkin patch before heading home.  Both children asked to come again and my daughter who is normally a terrible sleeper was in bed fast asleep by 7.30pm!  Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day, I can't wait to take them again, maybe at Christmas when Santa is there.

This day I love enchanted woods.

I visited Stockeld Park as a paying visitor and have not been asked by them to write this, I simply enjoyed my day and therefore wanted to write and share my experience.

I have always loved swimming and loved the idea of taking my children swimming.  Both of my girls started swimming lessons at 6 weeks old and both thoroughly enjoy them.  My 2year old is capable of swimming 5 metres without support and knows how to enter a pool safely and what to do if she falls in.  I also think swimming helped her with her development towards moving and attributed to early crawling and walking.

So today my youngest has her swimming lesson.  The second I laid her on the mat in the changing room she got all excited and giddy.  She started to roll from back to front to back to front in an attempt to get to the pool all the time laughing and smiling at me.  Once she was changed and I had picked her up she started jumping in my arms, similar to how she does when it's bath time.

We had our lesson and the teacher said 'someone was a little excited to be here today'.  I had to agree she was so happy to be in the water swimming.  I love how excited both my girls are with swimming and that it's a time we can enjoy together.

This day I love swimming.

As well as a mummy to my two wonderful girls I am also a very proud auntie to five nephews and two nieces.  The latest of which was born recently and I met for the first time today.

I'm not sure what it is about newborn cuddles that makes my heart skip that beat and feel that warm glow inside, I think it's the smell.  It's a smell you can't describe but it's perfect in every way and one which makes you want to protect the small person it's coming from.  I'm not sure if it's just me that feels this, if it's a mum/maternal thing or do dads or non parents feel the same?

I am not broody before anyone says I am, I'm more than happy with my girls, plus the memory of the youngest birth is still rather fresh.   Rather I just enjoyed meeting my new nephew.

This day I love newborn cuddles

My youngest daughter is 5 months old (6 next Sunday) and I started weaning her at 4 and half.  I know the current recommendation is to wait until 6 months but in my own opinion all babies are different and my daughter was more than ready.  She would feed every hour and have a good 20 min feed each time both day and night, she could sit up with support and everything she got her hands on went straight in her mouth.

Up until now I have been feeding her purée fruit and vegetables, staying away from anything other than these with the exception of porridge and rusk biscuits, she would not eat baby rice.  On an average day she eats 3-4 baby food pouches or home made purée, bowl of porridge and has 4 good 20 mins breast feeds a day, plus additional night feeds.  Today however I introduced her to finger foods.

I decided to do a combination therefore of baby led weaning and the traditional method.  The baby led started today and with her two new front teeth she enjoyed every minute.  I have never seen such excitement in her face as the ' toy' she thought she was holding turned out to be something she could eat.  She's also recently worked out the pincer grip and this she found very useful for eating toast.  I can't wait until tomorrow to try her with a new taste.

This day I love finger foods!

We had a very busy morning and so I thought I would treat my girls to lunch out.  I asked my daughter what she would like and she said cheese sandwich and juice please mummy.  A fair request only they were out of cheese sandwiches.  So I bought her a ham sandwich and some cheese separate in one of those kids boxes.  Well I got a bit of a look and a response of ' no I want cheese not ham mummy' I explained they had no cheese, ' more shopping cheese sandwich mummy?' I simply said ok she seemed to accept and then promptly took the ham out the sandwich ate it.  I started feeding my youngest, when I heard ' look mummy cheese sandwich now', I looked and yes she had made her own cheese sandwich.

This day I love cheese sandwiches

Today I took the girls and our dog for a walk around a local lake.  Little sister, 5 months, usually protests at the pushchair but today she enjoyed watching the leaves fall from the trees around the lake and eventually she fell asleep, a very rare thing!

Big sister, she's 2, enjoyed running in the leaves and splashing in the puddles.  We even pretended to feed the ducks.  She was really good and held the pushchair whenever I asked.  There is usually an ice cream van so she was looking for the lolly bus as she calls them, but he was no where to be seen.  I showed her the conkers that had fallen, or the spiky nuts as she now refers to them, and we played a guessing game as to if the squirrel had taken the nut or not.

As an even bigger surprise our dog, who normally barks at everything, walked calmly by the side of the pram.  The weather even held.

This day I love autumn walks with the girls and our dog.
