This day I love.......

My eldest loves pirates. her current favourite bedtime stories involve pirates and if we play dress up she dresses up as a pirate.  I had the day off work today so after getting a few jobs done this morning the girls and I had an afternoon Pirate adventure.

We began our pirate adventure by digging for treasure.  I put some porridge oats and rice into our messy play tub.  I used food colouring to dye some of the oats and rice black which I then made into crosses to mark the spot where I had buried the treasure.  The girls then set about uncovering the hidden treasure

Once we had found the pirate treasure we needed to set sail on the sea.  I used blue and green food colouring to dye some water and off we went

The girls really loved playing in the water, my youngest in particular loved splashing around.  I kept adding bubbles in to keep their interest in the water play.

After all this treasure hunting the pirates soon became hungry, so we baked brownies

The girls and I had a lot of fun pretending to be pirates and hunting for treasure.  I think my youngest enjoyed licking the bowl clean after we made brownies.  A very busy, fun and messy day!

A lot has changed in 30 years.  30 years describes my whole life, a lot has changed for me.  In 1983 I was experiencing my first year of life, learning to walk, talk and all those amazing things my youngest daughter is currently doing now.  This was me then

me

Unlike Special K, which for the first time in 30 years Kellogg's is updating with a new 3 grain [previously 2] recipe, I think I have updated quite a lot.  I can now walk and talk although some times I don't make much sense.  In 1983 I was learning the basics and since then have gone on to complete a Masters in Engineering. 30 years a whole life time.

Perhaps the only thing that has remained the same in those 30 years is my appetite.  Yes I have always liked my food, in particular breakfast.  I don't function without it.  Should you ever meet my Dad he will gladly tell you the honey story to back this up.  The thing is is I have a sweet tooth.  Whilst I am health conscious, most of the time, I do love my sweet things.

Perhaps this was why previously I never really enjoyed the taste of Special K.  Now when asked if I wanted to try the new recipe cereal I thought why not, I am open minded and happy to give it a go.  The new recipe, as previously mentioned, is now 3 grains instead of 2.  It contains rice, wheat and barley and is made with wholegrain.  It provides a good source of fibre and 8 vitamins and minerals.  I was somewhat surprised, as it tasted nice.  I actually enjoyed it, me the person who has perhaps the sweetest tooth, cannot turn down cake and would eat chocolate at all meals, enjoyed a healthy cereal that can even help weight control.

#specialk30

This is great news for me as the other thing that's changed in 30 years is my body shape.  At one point I could have worn the 'special K red swimsuit' probably in my early twenties, but after 2 children I am wanting to slim back down.  I think I shall participant in the My special K challenge, as what I will gain when I loose, is my self confidence back.  That confidence from my twenties when I thought I could have it all and do it all.

Yes a lot has changed for me in the last 30 years but by far the best is my two grains, my two little girls and who knows maybe one day, like special K I might even have 3?

Today was a day to be brave.  9 years ago on this day my younger sister fell asleep, I remember every minute of that day like it was yesterday.  I needed to be brave, I needed to be strong for my girls.  They are too young to understand.  They came with me and my Mum to the grave.  In some ways it made it easier having them there.  My eldest wanted to help with the flowers and they were both ever so good

helping

When we came home I needed to keep busy to take my mind off things.  I love to be outdoors and so I spent the afternoon with the girls in the garden.  My eldest helped me plant some plants

planting

It was incredibly hard work as I had to move the pebbles in order to plant, but I hope it will all be worth it when the plants grow and the garden starts to attract wildlife.

Whilst digging we came across a worm.  My eldest loves animals when they are far away but if they come up close she gets very scared.  The same happened with the worm.  I picked it up to show her it was ok, she slowly came round to the idea.  After a few minutes she asked if she could hold the worm.  This was incredibly brave for my daughter to do

holding the worm

I am ever so proud of her for doing so.  She did not want to put the worm back into the ground.  After a long question and answer on the worm she finally agreed to put him back to look after the plants.

My youngest is definitely a water baby.  If we are upstairs she automatically toddles to the shower and if the doors are open she climbs in and stares longingly at it.  If there are any cloths that have water in she squeezes them onto the tray, just so she can make a splash.  I think she would happily stay in the shower all day.

It is a good way to keep her entertained whilst I get ready in the morning.

Gardening

Sunday - With the weather hopefully turning for the better and what feels like spring approaching we have started to tidy up the garden,  It is this years task to plant and make the garden look nice.  I searched for a long time to find a bird bath that was just right and my eldest picked this one.  She loves filling it with water.

tree

Monday - Our Sycamore tree seems to be having a few problems at the moment.  We are noticing more and more large branches falling into the garden along with some peeling bark.  I called in the tree surgeon to take a look.  We have a beetle in the tree but are awaiting further news as to the severity of damage and what can be done.  My eldest loved watching him climb the tree and I could not move her from this spot.  If you look closely you can see him in the tree.

climb

Tuesday - My youngest is in a climbing phase.  Now she has figured out toddling, she now is working out climbing.  She climbs everything.  The favourite at the moment is her walker.

Wednesday -  My eldest loves to take photos and this was one of the pictures she took.  I absolutely love it

studying

Thursday - After spending the past few weeks studying today marked the day of my exams for work.  I passed and it was such a huge relief.  I think the studying I have done is rubbing off on my eldest as she concentrated on her book.

singing

Friday - Having just decorated the play room all the girls toys are piled up in the front room.  My youngest found the microphone and spent the evening singing into it.  She tried a bit of dancing too.

bike

Saturday - We visited Grandma and Grandad who had kept the tricycle from when I was little.  My eldest loves this bike and is constantly asking to go and ride it.  She had a lot of fun riding round the patio on it.

Our local garden centre has a lot more than plants.  It has a great outdoor play area which both girls loved exploring

Of course we cannot go anywhere without seeing the guinea pigs

The girls had a lovely lunch and I really love their cakes.

My eldest loved riding the tractors

Both girls even tried their hand at some fishing

I think its fair to say our garden centre definitely has a lot more than plants.

My girls love pretending, from pretending to cook on their play cooker, to dressing up and even pretending to be a hairdresser and doing my hair.  I love to encourage imaginative play and adore it when they dress up.

Pretend to bee have a wonderful selection of fancy dress costumes for pretty much every idea you can think of.  Animals, princess and characters whatever your child wants to pretend to be, pretend to bee have a wide range and a costume to suit.

I was kindly sent the ladybird costume for my girls.  My eldest loved it, she put it on and crawled around the floor, pretending to be a ladybird.  She moved so fast it was near impossible to get a photo of her, the only ones I got were blurry.

The costume is easy to put on and off, it goes on just like an apron.  The material used feels really soft and feels like it will last.  The hood has two Velcro pieces underneath and is again easy to secure.  My daughter had no trouble taking the costume on and off herself.

I had to try the costume on my youngest.  She is 11 months and the costume is intended for a 3 year old, so I know its a little big for her but she did look cute

This is a lovely quality costume that my girls are going to be able to use over and over again.

Pretend to bee have also kindly agreed to give away one of their pirate costumes,  there is one costume available for either a boy or a girl and in sizes 3/5 years or 5/7 years, please note the picture shows a sword which is not part of the competition.
