This day I love.......

My sister had come home for Christmas and the girls were keen to spend some time with her.  They do not get to see her very often and as a treat we decided to all go out to the theatre together.  Cast theatre in Doncaster was showing Christmas tales with Granddad and this seemed like a great show for us all.

We arrived at the theatre and the girls made themselves comfy on the beanbags at the front, my sister and I sitting nearer the back with the other adults.  We all awaited the start of the show.

Christmas tales with Granddad

Christmas tales with Granddad is performed by some very clever puppet masters.  They bring to life Granddad and the other characters with real skill.  There is audience participation from the children and everyone gets involved with the story from Granddad.  It is like sitting with your own Granddad listening to stories.  You feel really absorbed by the whole performance and listen intently to each part of the story as you long for more of it to be told.

It was a really enjoyable performance and one which really made our Christmas eve.  The girls loved spending time with their Auntie too.  I asked the girls what their favourite part of the show was, and they both said the giant pants.

I guess any show which involved a festive pair of giant pants is always going to be a hit with children.  My youngest loved the show that she asked to meet Granddad afterwards

My girls are very lucky that they not only have two Granddads but also two Granddads who love them and they have a close bond with.  They love their Granddads and love playing games with them.  As they have gotten older they are interacting more with their Granddads and discovering new ways to play.

The Dangerous book for Granddads contains 86 ideas for Granddads to get into mischief with their Grandchildren.  Not that my girls need much encouragement, but it is always wonderful to have new ideas to try.  The book, written by freelance author Jeremy Hobson, features many activities and skills from the past and also some new ones the Grandchildren can show Granddads.

Dangerous Book for Granddads

Whilst the book contains full colour pictures it is presented in such a way that is has an old scrapbook feel to it.  There are hints and tips on the pages and some very interesting points raised as well.  The Dangerous book for Granddads would make an excellent gift for Granddads everywhere.

Early this year the girls went Blackberry picking with their Granddad.  This book contains recipe for Blackberry Jam and well as identifying other plants outside.  The girls are also wanting to build a go cart with Granddad after watching the red bull races and the dangerous book for Granddads provides ideas and tips for them to do so.

The dangerous book for Granddads is sure to keep the girls busy when they visit Granddad!

I was sent a copy of the book in exchange for this post, all words are my own opinion

A few months ago I posted in my running update about the 5K run or dye which I had entered into.  I could not believe that the event was finally here, when I booked August seemed a long way away.  Run or Dye includes everyone and with my eldest daughter wanting to run, she accompanied me on the course.

The course at Castle Howard was very hilly, but incredibly beautiful.  My eldest was amazing, she runs at full sprint then walks to catch her breath before running at full speed again.  It took about 45 minutes but she loved it and loved running through the rainbows.

After the run or dye run

As this was a fun run there were no medals at the end.  My daughter did not know that I had signed her up for the Virtual runner kids medal and at the end of the race I presented her with her medal.  She asked why no one else had a medal and I said it was because she was the best 4 nearly 5 year old who ran today.  She was very pleased.

Our journey home took us past the airfield where my Dad has been building a plane.  Having last seen the plane as a shell I was keen to take a look, and I think the girls were excited too.  I am so proud of my Dad for building a plane, it is amazing to look at and it flies beautifully, incredibly smooth.  It is hard to recognise the shell it once was.  The girls loved having a grand tour and although they desperately wanted to fly we thought it best to wait until they are a little bigger.

Watching the girls in the plane with my Dad reminded me of me and my sister doing the same when we were younger.  A colourful family weekend

This day I love a colourful flying visit.

I remember when I was a child my Grandma and Granddad taking me strawberry picking.  We went every year and there always seemed to be lots of places to go near us.  I have noticed over recent years the decline in Pick your own near us, which I feel is a real shame.  I wanted to take my girls to experience strawberry picking for the first time, I thought it would be a wonderful adventure.  In keeping with tradition Granddad also came with us.

The girls followed Granddad into the strawberry patch.  There were strawberry plants for as far as the eye could see.

Granddad and I showed the girls were the strawberries would be hiding and soon the girls were off on a little adventure to look for strawberries.

They worked together as a team, my youngest spotting strawberries and my eldest helping to carry the tub.

My youngest soon became rather good at spotting them and seemed to get lost in all the strawberry plants.

I loved how curious they became lifting up the plants and trying to spot the strawberries.  They soon became experts in which strawberries to pick and which to leave behind.  I even hid a Barny bear for them to find between some of the strawberries which the girls found rather funny.

My eldest was very pleased with all the strawberries that we managed to pick

It was a beautiful way to spend the morning with the girls, feeding their imagination and curiosity and spending some time with Granddad.

Of course after our little adventure the girls were hungry so I made them bear strawberry jam sandwiches, strawberries and a strawberry Barny.

This day I love Strawberry picking adventures

We were sent samples of Barny to try.  All words and opinions are my own.  This post has been entered into the  MN Bloggers-Barny Little Adventures Blog Hop on Mumsnet #littleadventures.
