This day I love.......

The items mentioned in this post have been received for purpose of review. All words are my own personal opinion.

Little Man is now three years old and just started at nursery. Like most three year olds he absolutely loves Peppa Pig. He was in for a real treat when he came home from nursery and discovered a box just for him. It had two of the new Learn with Peppa toys inside. The Peppa Pig Laugh and Learn laptop and the Peppa Pig Smart tablet. His little hands were so excited to open the boxes to begin playing with them. Luckily both items were really easy to remove from the packages and I was also impressed that the packaging could also be recycled.

Peppa Pig Laugh and Learn Laptop

Little Man often sees me working on my laptop. Working from home for his entire life, he knows no different than watching me work on a laptop. He therefore was rather delighted to receive his very own laptop and a Peppa Pig one too. His laptop has a rather smart handle, meaning he can carry it with ease wherever he goes. The laptop screen then lifts up, just like a real laptop and fits perfectly on his three year old legs so he can work just like Mummy.

His work however is lots of Peppa fun. Peppa has four fun games to play which help introduce letters, numbers, colours, objects and musical instruments. The games are interactive and the laptop lights up and plays sounds as he plays the games. There is also the option to play one of 6 tunes, play piano tunes and there are even some funny sounds too.

The Peppa Pig laugh and learn laptop is bright coloured and very eye catching to Little Man at three years old. He loves that the screen looks like Peppa things. The numbers are how Peppa would show them and the whole design is true to the show. The main buttons are big and chunky and I love the use of colour and different shapes. Little Man rather likes the slider, which is used for selecting the different game, and will slide it quickly up and down.

Batteries were included and there is a main on and off switch on the base of the laptop.

Peppa Pig Smart tablet

The Peppa Pig smart tablet is incredibly light weight meaning Little Man carries it everywhere he can. I do mean everywhere. One of the things he loves is how it is touch screen. In the same way a tablet would work you make selections by touching the front of the smart tablet.

Upon switching on Peppa asks you which game you want to play. You make a selection using the buttons on the side and Peppa will then ask you a question. For example if you select colours, Peppa will ask something like ‘Find the Purple Puddle’ Pressing the purple puddle plays a well done style noise but pressing the wrong colour plays an error noise. Little Man loves the colour game, I think because he is pretty clued up on his colours, whereas he tends not to play the letter game as he finds it harder to get the answer right as he is not as confident with letter recognition.

The Peppa Pig Smart tablet will grow with him as he does start to recognise letters and numbers and the interactive games with Peppa means he keeps coming back to aid his learning and understanding. The size is just perfect for him and his little toddler hands, at three years old he can carry it with ease. There is a clear volume control and an off and on button making it another good toy to use to entertain him for longer car journeys. The tablet takes AAA batteries which are not included.

You can also Learn with Peppa as I am giving away either a Peppa Smart Tablet or Peppa Pig Laugh and Learn Laptop to one lucky winner drawn at random. Full terms are on the widget below. Prize may vary on the ones stated depending on availability.

This is a featured post in collaboration with Walkers crisps.

Now here’s the story from A-Z….

If you didn’t sing that sentence to a certain Spice girls song then…. Well I am not sure how to end that

I grew up in the 90s. The 90s were my school years, leaving primary school and entering high school, leaving high school for college and learning to drive a car. The 90s saw me leave childhood and become a teenager, almost into adulthood. They were a big part of my life.

My musical taste is, well let’s say not mainstream, but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember the songs of the 90s. I remember my sister having a Spice girls poster on her bedroom wall and her listening to their songs. Whilst I wasn’t listening to them direct, they had an indirect impact on me. For some reason I seem to know the words to the vast majority of their songs. In fact watching my friends and sisters perform the dance moves to Spice Girls stop means that they are permanently etched into my brain even to this day.

My Facebook timeline and my Instagram newsfeed is currently flooded with 90s bands. Take That reunion tour, Westlife reunion tour and the Spice Girls. It’s almost like the 90s again, except I have young children in tow and want to be in bed by 9.30pm. I see the excitement on my friends faces as they head out to watch the bands they loved growing up, it’s almost like been back there again only this time with a lot more grey hairs thrown in.

It would appear it is not just my social media timeline that is reliving the 90s. Walkers, the UK’s favourite crisp brand, has teamed up with iconic girl group, Spice Girls, for a nostalgic throwback to the 90s in its new TV advert and have begun the search for the  Spice Girls Best Ever Fan, during the girls UK tour. Fans were asked to post a Spice Girls related snapshot from back in the day, or to create something new and share on their social channel of choice, tagging @Walkers_Crisps and hashtagging #BestEverFan.

The entries have been amazing and I would recommend you have a look, there really are some serious fans out there. How they will choose I winner I do not know. As for the advert, well that runs from 2nd June until the 21st July 2019 and in case you missed it you can watch it again here.

This is a featured post containing a competition Sponsored by British skincare brand, Sudocrem.

For as long as I can remember I have always had a love for the outdoors and growing plants. I can remember every year growing potatoes in a bucket with my Grandad. Tipping out the dirt to see what had grown. My Grandma taught me how to take cuttings and replant them to grow new plants. Their garage was covered in sweet peas and we would pick them and eat them in the garden.

In my own garden I have two apple trees, a pear tree and a cherry tree. I bought a fig tree from the nursery for 50p and for the first time this year it has started to grow. Outside the doors my hanging baskets grow tumbling tomato plants rather than flowers and I have an abundance of rhubarb and strawberries growing out of pots.

My parents also grow their own fruit and veg and my children enjoy growing their own fruit and veg not only at home but also with their Grandparents. Last year they planted and took care of pumpkins which they then successfully used over Halloween. During Autumn they pick blackberries and cook fruit crumble and one of their loves is eating apples straight from the tree.

I am incredibly excited to announce that I am a Get Out and Grow ambassador. In a recent survey Sponsored by British skincare brand, Sudocrem, the Get Out and Grow project was created. The research suggested gardening is being forgotten and that many children lack basic knowledge about the natural world and where their food comes from. Only 8% had ever picked an apple and 73% had never grown a sunflower. These statistics are rather shocking given how much fruit and veg my own children grow.

Get out and Grow school competition

Starting in June and running throughout the month, Get Out and Grow will award school gardening starter kits to 20 schools nationwide. The kits will include children’s wheelbarrows, gardening gloves, mini-trowels, seeds and lessons on how to make the most of a school garden. And the good news is, anyone can enter! Nominating your local primary school or nursery is easy. Just fill in the widget below and then message me or leave a comment with the details of your chosen school to be in with the chance to win one of the available kits. Full terms and conditions are on the widget.

You may have seen in an earlier post that next year I plan on renovating my youngest daughters bedroom. If you ask her her favourite colour she says rainbow and her favourite things are mermaids, dogs and unicorns, so with these things in mind I want to create her a magical bedroom.

I am currently researching different painting methods. This may sound strange but I am wanting to incorporate a feature rainbow wall for her. I am looking at several different methods including using bubble wrapping to print different colours onto her wall, using bubbles themselves to paint and creating sections within the wall for a more defined rainbow. I am not sure which method to use yet, I like the idea of the bubbles but I am struggling to find a way to make it work.

On this feature wall I also intend to either paint or find a large enough wall sticker of a unicorn, to add a touch of sparkle I would also like to find some glitter to add to the wall. I have started to put together a Pinterest board of my ideas of how I would like the walls to look.

https://pin.it/lpdz5di4vyjsnq

I would like to use pastel colours on the other 3 walls. Maybe using different colours to try and keep with her love for rainbows. I am not sure if I will add glitter though as I want the feature wall to really stand out. Instead I want to decorate with art work that also captures the other things she loves mermaids, and of course dogs.

Looking through the internet I have found some beautiful art work at a very reasonable price for her bedroom wall. Arthaus is an independent and self funded market place that currently showcases the work of over 400 artists. This means there is an enviable collection of art that continuously grows and changes as more artists add their work. The price is also set by the artists themselves so there are plenty of beautiful artwork at very affordable prices. I simply fell in love with this piece and ordered it for her bedroom.

To incorporate mermaid into her bedroom I have decided to look for a blackout blind with a mermaid scale pattern. The wall which the window is on I think I will paint a lighter colour in order to have the blind stand out as art of its own.

I am actually really excited to start this project and know it won't happen quickly as I am not the fastest at painting but I cannot wait for it to unfold and also to see her face once it is complete. I am also hoping to film the transformation so you can see everything come together over on YouTube.

Arthaus have very kindly offered a framed print to one lucky reader of this blog to enter follow the widget below which also contains the full terms and conditions. In addition the code THISDAY20 entitles you to 20% off any print or frame until midnight Monday 3rd December.

I have just returned home from a run.  A planned 8 mile run cut short due to the heavy rain.  I can hear the rain beating down on the glass outside.  I stand in the dark hallway cold and soaked to the bone.  The door to the front room opens, my youngest daughter reaches out and asks for a hug.  Our dog jumps up excitedly to greet me.  Little Man snoring away through the baby monitor.

After a shower I return downstairs to sit on the sofa between my girls.  Snuggled together under a throw, lights low to help the girls unwind and the dog fast asleep on the rug.  We sit there together, warm and cosy, for half hour before bed.  It is so quiet I can hear the girls breathing, it is peaceful and I feel happy.

This time together is so precious, the girls at school all day and my training meaning I am spending most evenings running.  The idea behind Hygge is to forget life’s worries, to unwind and relax and to feel as at-home as possible.  Whenever I return from a run and cuddle my children this is the moment I feel as at-home as possible.  In the winter though this seems to feel even more special.  Perhaps the dark outside adds to the mood.  The warmth inside.  The soft cuddly cushions and throw on the sofa are so inviting for a cuddle when I come in from the cold.

Rowland Owl needs our help, he is going on holiday and has nothing to wear.  Rowland Owl has asked all his friends to design him a t-shirt for his holiday.  The girls were excited as I gave them paint and other craft materials to begin designing their t shirt

They set about their designs, cutting and sticking.  Thinking about what Rowland would like and to design the perfect t shirt for a summer holiday.

The girls took their time over the t shirts for Rowland until they were finally ready to show me their creations.

I hope Rowland likes them!

If you would like to design a t shirt for Rowland the Owl, Rowland Pharmacy mascot, you could be in with the chance of winning a Holiday Health Hamper filled with Rowlands Pharmacy products.  The competition closes on August 24th and full details of how to enter including the terms and conditions can be found here

I am incredibly excited to be attending the Cruise show this year.  Having sailed with Disney Cruise Line and another cruise booked it is clear we have a love for cruises.  The thing that appeals to us most is waking up some where new.  Having an adventure in a new place every day, it is a great way to explore and see the world.

Cruising also offers peace of mind.  A wide range of food and drink is available 24 hours a day and your entertainment is also taken care of.  If you are thinking of cruising why not check out my top tips for first time cruise.

If I had the money I would take all of my clothes in my wardrobe to be weighed in and donate some of the money to charity.  I would donate the clothes to charity but to be honest I don't think they would want them.

My current wardrobe consists of

- Maternity clothes that I have not yet put away
- Clothes I wore during both my pregnancies and are stretched
- t shirts from various gigs I went to at uni
- Jeans

There is very little deviation from this, as far as I know I own no designer labels and my most recent purchase was a blue vest top from Primark because my the straps on my other vest tops broke and I needed it for holiday.  I neither follow or set trends instead am more than happy in my comfy jeans and t shirt.

Yumi have an amazing competition at the moment where they are offering £1000 in Yumi vouchers.  I could finally have the new wardrobe I so desperately need.  They want to know what 5 things I would swap from my current wardrobe.

1. GAP brown jumper

I have a brown V neck jumper from Gap which I love, but the elastics have gone in the sleeves so I have to roll them up and the front is stretched as I wore it when heavily pregnant.  I would love to swap it for this embroidered jumper
2. Jeans

As much as I love my jeans [and I really do] I would swap a pair for this dinosaur print dress.  I would love to have the confidence to wear dresses more often and to have the option to bring some on holiday with me.  I love the print on this dress

3. Suits

I have a lot of black suits in my wardrobe which I used to wear for work.  Having not needed to wear them in over a year I think I should swap them for something that is still smart but I might get some use from.  I think this dress is perfect for smart occasions yet I could also wear at other times.

4. Jacket

I would quite happily swap my old black plain and boring rain jacket for this much more fun blue and white spotty jacket.

5. Uni T shirt

I think it is time that I swapped my old faded uni t shirt for something more up to date and colourful.  I love the colours on this butterfly t shirt and think it would make a perfect swap

What do you think of the items I have picked from Yumi? What would you pick?

The sun seems to have disappeared this week and the grey sky and rain looks like it is here to stay.  This weekend was a complete wash out with heavy rain making it impossible to venture out.  Instead we decided to stay in and do a spot of painting.

We are Lottie Doll ambassadors and had just heard about a competition to win a collection of Lottie dolls.  As ambassadors we cannot enter but I thought it would be great fun to take part.  The competition brief is straight forward

'Use your imagination to design a pair of unique wellies for Lottie! One lucky child will WIN a Collection of the new Lottie Dolls and Accessories! (pictured)  #getmudd'

Muddy Puddles Lottie is perfect for my girls, she loves going on muddy adventures.  Enjoying the sound of mud squelching under her feet and jumping in muddy puddles.  Muddy puddles Lottie is just like my girls.  She comes with the following accessories

·         Yellow hooded raincoat with blue striped lining
·         Rain boots
·         A long sleeved t-shirt
·         Corduroy shorts
·         Striped leggings

The wet weather helped with the inspiration for our designs and the girls got stuck in

girls painting

It wasn't long before my youngest took it a step further and began designing her boots on her legs

The girls designed some rather pretty patterns and colours.

There is a City that has captured my heart.  I dream of returning back there one day, it was an amazing holiday that I spent there over 7 years ago.

Sunsets

When I close my eyes and need to relax I picture this Sunset.  It is the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen.  Having the privilege to see it more than once is unforgettable.  Standing on the pier and watching the sky change in colour, reflecting on the ocean.  It is beautiful.

Cockerels

When you first step foot in the city you become aware of their additional residents.  They are everywhere.  They form part of the history of the city and it becomes the norm to see young chicks weaving in and out of traffic.

Pirates

It has a Pirate Museum!  Famous for Pirates and shipwrecks it has everything if you love your pirates.  There are some fantastic views, if you dare to climb the towers.  Of course if you see a shipwreck ring the bell

These three things sum up my favourite city.

Key West is beautiful like the sunset, the sights never leave you.  It is vibrant and full of colour and it feels like you are in your own world.  The cockerel represents the history and individuality.  Key West has some quirky areas and it is so unique and individual.  The Southern most point of USA and was a key route of Pirates.  I love it had all the Pirate touches.  Not to mention of course the amazing food, the butterfly house and Key Lime Pie!

This is my entry to A tale of three cities

I was slightly organised this year and have managed to finish my Christmas shopping.  I would like to know if I had not managed to finish my shopping yet could I find everything that was on my daughters wish list [or at the very least their top 5] from one place?

Here goes:

The eldest

My eldest has requested

1. A pink bike - She has been asking for a pink bike for a long time now so hopefully Kiddimoto Wooden Scooter Style Balance Bike - Bright Pink will be what she is looking for
2. Disney Frozen - She loves Frozen so a Disney Frozen 6 in 1 game set is perfect for her as is
3. Disney Frozen Sparkle studio, she loves art and Frozen so a win win combination
4. Doll to do hair - she loves to do hair and would love nothing more than a doll to do hair on like Sofia the First Deluxe Styling Head
5. Sofia the first dress up - She loves dressing up and would like a Sofia Classic dress up dress.

Youngest

My youngest would like

1. A scooter - she is Minnie Mouse obsessed so this Minnie Mouse Bow-Tique scooter is perfect for her
2. Games - My youngest loves to play games and she will have so much fun with this Minnie Mouse Bow Crazy game
3. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse game - I haven't seen which game it is when she says this but I hope this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse game Race against the clock is it
4.Frozen - Her other favourite thing is Frozen.  She loves drawing and often draws in the car so the Frozen Travel art easel is something she will love
5. Bike - Her sister wants a bike so she also wants a bike.  Hopefully this Kiddimoto Wooden Kurve Balance Bike - Flower will fit her requirements

The good news is that all of these items are available from one place, Debenhams.  I know for next year that I only have to visit one shop to meet all my daughters Christmas wishes.

This post is my entry into the Debenhams competition wish list.

Finding time to read with two kids to look after as well as working can be tricky, when I do find time it is my favourite way to unwind. I really love reading.

One of my favourite books that I have read this year is Ready player one by Ernest Cline. I enjoy reading a mixture of book genre, but really like either crime or science fiction. I can be a little picky with both and the book has to grab me without being too over the top. Ready player one took me in.

The thing that got me with this book is that it really could happen. The book isn't far fetched and as things progress in the world it seems to become more a reality. Ready player one also took me back to some of my childhood, referencing items I could relate to.

Ready player one is also one of those books that you are really routing for the little guy to win, against all odds. With clever plot twists, and playing on your emotions it really is a great read. It has become one of those books we now also have on audio book and we always listen to it in the car on long journeys. Wil Wheaton does a great job with the narration, really bringing the characters and story to life.  Now when I read the book I hear his voice in my head as I read.

Working from home I often put on the TV just for a bit of noise, I don't really like the silence. This has lead to me discovering two TV shows which I am now addicted to. Both were not released in 2014 but both are very new to me and discovered in 2014.

The first is Castle. I had watched the first few seasons some time ago but re discovered the series recently and have been hooked every since. I love the characters and the plot twists. I really love watching crime drama and I love trying to work out what happened with the characters. If you love crime dramas you really need to give this a watch, there is a lot of humour and one of my favourite episodes is where they go back to the 70s. If you need a giggle you have to watch this episode!

The second I had heard about for ages but only discovered in the past few weeks. The reason is is because its on after Castle on a weekday so it would just come on the TV.  Then I started getting more and more into it. Rizzoli and Isles is again a crime drama, but following two very distinct female with differing personalities. Both characters are played fantastically and I love watching their friendship as well as the unfolding drama.

I would love to know what film, TV or book you have discovered in 2014 and can you recommend any good books or TV shows for me to try?

It has been very wet and windy this past week.  With the weather getting colder the girls wanted to stay in and play.  I had seen a competition by Mattress online to create a super sleigh from your bed and this sounded like the perfect activity for the girls to do.

We started by finding all the required materials we would need

The girls got busy making their super sleigh.  I was tasked in finding them some wheels because my daughter pointed out it would need to drive when it wasn't flying.  They loved looking through the box and discussing what each item could be.  It was amazing listening to their imagination come to life.

The final super sleigh is as follows

The girls have thought about all details of the sleigh.  Comfort is taken care of with the cushion and safety with the seat belts.  They have thought about travelling at night with the addition of lights [don't worry they work on battery and I was with them all the time].

I sat in the back of the sleigh next to Father Christmas, the Elf and the Cat and the girls took me on a magical journey.  The sleigh is to help Father Christmas deliver toys.  It can fly high in the sky and is guided by the two magical reindeer.

It was a beautiful day spent with the girls, listening to them play together and with me.  I love their story telling and how beautiful their imagination is.

I would love to know what your sleigh would do, would it help Father Christmas like my girls does or perhaps something else?

This day I love a magical sleigh ride

There are 26 days until Christmas, 26.  I cannot believe it is so close.

The girls have started eagerly counting down the sleeps until Christmas and when Father Christmas will, they hope, bring them all the toys they have asked for.  In the New Year we will be moving my youngest daughter out of her toddler bed and into a big girls bed like her sister.  The countdown is well and truly on, as I cannot squeeze myself into the toddler bed to lie with her much longer when she wakes in the night.

I will be writing more about how she copes with transitioning from a toddler to a single bed in the New Year.  With us through our countdown will be Noa and Nani.  They make beautiful beds as well as other beautiful items of furniture.  My daughter will be going into their gorgeous Astrid bed.

The Astrid bed is a single bed and I love the gorgeous sleigh bed design.  Is is made from solid Pine wood and retails at £199.99 but is on offer at Noa and Nani for £99.99.  It comes flat packed so it is easy for home assembly
Dimensions: W 96cm x L 205cm x H 102cm

The details on Astrid are so elegant and is such a beautiful piece which my daughter is going to love.

Noa and Nani would like to celebrate the countdown to Christmas with this day I love.  They are going to be offering one lucky winner a beautiful Astrid single sleigh bed in white along with a mattress.  There is one mandatory entry which then unlocks other entry.   We would like you to follow Noa and Nani on twitter and then tweet a picture of you/your child/your pet/your family member/a friend asleep with the message

 I would rather be counting the sleeps until #Christmas in a @Noaandnani bed #bed #sleeps #win #giveaway @thisdayilove

Once you have tweeted please come back and let me know on the Rafflecopter which will then unlock the additional [but optional] entry.  Good Luck.

The Giveaway closes on Christmas Day 2014 at midnight GMT.  Entry is open to UK residents only, full t&c are on the Rafflecopter widget.

I'm going to be honest why I say I never really got Christmas.  I never really have.  Two years ago something changed and I realised what Christmas was all about.  We got up that morning and the girls came eagerly downstairs.  They opened the doors and saw their presents from Father Christmas.

My eldest had just got the concept of Father Christmas and was excited that he had bought her presents.  It was my youngest first Christmas and she was so excited by all the bright paper and toys.  Our dog, J, was excited by everything going off. It was magical.

The air was full of magic and excitement.  My eldest was running around with excitement and my youngest was crawling.  She was in all the paper and the dog was chasing the paper too.  There was lots of laughing and giggling.  Everyone was having fun, including J.  Watching the girls and J have so much fun is the moment I realised what Christmas was all about.  It was this moment.  This was my favourite Christmas experience.

I would love to be able to take the girls to experience the magic of Lapland and am writing this post for a competition by Transun to be in with a chance of winning this amazing holiday.  You can see all the entries by following #TransunXmas on twitter.  Wish me luck.
