This day I love.......

My girls recently have become a little obsessed with Masha and the bear.  I honestly thought it was Marsha until they both kept correcting me.  They discovered the show through YouTube and it is one of those series that they keep going back to, despite the first few times they watched it the language was in Russian.

The girls have both asked for Masha and the bar toys for Christmas.  My youngest has been sent a Mash and the bear interactive game from Clementoni toys

The game is educational in that it can teach colours, shapes and numbers.  You solve the puzzle via the interactive pen which makes a sound when you select the right answer.  Whilst my youngest has not played the game yet, as I have wrapped it up for Christmas, I have had rather a lot of fun playing with the game.  Obviously the game was simple for me to do but I still liked how it would appeal to my daughter.  Bright colours, colourful graphics and the characters she loves from Masha and the Bear.  I am looking forward to seeing her face on Christmas day.

Earlier this year Masha and the bear launched their first DVD, and they are back again with a festive DVD.  I have also watched the DVD without the girls as it is going to be a treat for my eldest on Christmas eve.

The DVD is packed full of winter fun, including Masha learning to ice skate with the help of Bear and Lady Bear.  In addition the following episodes are on the DVD:

Holiday on Ice,
One, Two, Three!
Light the Christmas Tree,
Picture Perfect,
Tracks of Unknown Animals,
Watch Out!,
First Day of School,
No Trespassing,
The Snow Maiden
The Wolf and the Fox

I am giving away a copy of the DVD to one lucky winner, simply follow the instructions below

Good Luck

You may have seen on my Instagram feed that my youngest had a rather nasty accident.  Without going into the gory details we have another follow up appointment next week to check again for any permanent damage, as when we first went there was too much swelling.  She still has no feeling in her top teeth and has to avoid food of extreme temperatures, and we won't know until she looses her baby teeth what, if any, damage has been done to her adult teeth.  In a bid to cheer her up she has had a few new treats, I know Christmas is coming but when your daughter has a very nasty accident you have to do something to take their mind away from the pain, try and pick them back up again and let them know how proud you are of them for their bravery.

The day after her accident I put on brand new bedding for her that I had been sent from Character World.  Both girls are desperate to watch the Trolls movie but even though they have not seen the film they have picked up on the troll hype.  My youngest loved the bright purple and pink colours and the troll design.

Normally the girls share bedding, but given this is a polyester blend my eldest daughter is unable to use it as it would trigger her eczema so it is just for my youngest.  She loves that she has her very own character bedding, and that she does not have to share it.

I have tried to get a few photos of her in the bed at night but they turn out really blurry and you cannot see the bedding, so my apologies for that.  Her face when she walked through the door to see the new bedding was amazing, she was so surprised and it really helped to cheer her up.

We have also been having lots of cuddles on the sofa and watching films together.  I think some times when you feel a bit ill watching a film helps you to take your mind off the pain and you can loose yourself in your imagination.  My youngest has been choosing the films and one she has been going back to is the BFG.

As a child I remember two books and films that scared me one was the witches and the other was the BFG, so when the BFG was released recently in the cinema I decided not to take the girls and instead wait for the DVD so I could assess how scary it was.  The story follows Sophie, an orphan, who accidentally sees a large clocked figure in the night.  The large figure is the BFG, Big Friendly Giant, who takes her away to Giant Country.  The concept of giants taking children from their bedroom window always scared me and it was this I wanted to check to see how it had been done.

Like my youngest I fell in love with the film, it is such a beautiful rendition of the BFG and not scary at all.  Neither girl has been scared by it and they both ask to watch it.  They even mention is in one of my Vlogmas videos.  The film stays true to the book and follows the story as I remember it.  I have to say I wish the film had been done this way in my childhood, I would have wanted to watch it a whole lot more!

Watching the BFG, cuddling and her new bedding seems to have cheered her up!  I just hope the appointment goes well next week, fingers crossed.

The bedding and BFG DVD was sent for review, all words are my own opinion

There are some films which we look forward to seeing at the cinema but for different reasons end up missing them.  Capture the flag was one of these films.  Both the girls and I were looking forward to seeing it but unfortunately we were unable to.

Space travel runs in Mike Goldwing's family: both his father and grandfather were astronauts. But the plucky 12-year-old's estranged grandfather, Frank, has lived a life isolated from his family after missing out on the chance to make history as a member of the Apollo 11 crew.

However, when Mike discovers that an eccentric billionaire plans to fly to the moon, claim its vast, valuable mineral resources, and destroy the American flag planted by the Apollo 11 astronauts, the countdown to a spectacular adventure begins! Mike, teamed with his grandfather, best friends Amy and Marty, and a clever chameleon, blasts off on an incredible moon-bound mission, determined to thwart the billionaire's evil plan

Lucky for us Capture the Flag is released on Digital HD on 23rd May, and on Blu-ray and DVD on 30th May 2016 an we have been sent a copy to review.

I am not sure who was more excited to see the film me or the girls?  Either way we decided to make the most of it and have a 'space' themed evening.

The girls did some activity sheets whilst I got the DVD ready to play [Feel free to save and download the activity sheet]

The film was packed full of adventure and the girls found it incredibly funny in parts.  I really enjoyed the film too and so pleased we finally got to see it.  The film lives up to its trailer and is certainly worth watching with the family.

After the film we were inspired to build our very rocket, well how else will we go to the moon?

If you fancy building a rocket you could have a go at this one

We had a fun filled space themed day, and will be going to the moon in our rocket to capture the flag!

It was a rather wet and cold Saturday morning when the postman delivered us a rather exciting parcel.  Maya the Bee had landed on our doorstep with a huge range of goodies for the girls.  Enough to brighten up the darkest of days!

We decided therefore to have a Maya the Bee DVD evening on Sunday as a way to brighten up the miserable weekend.  The girls were very excited and settled down to watch the DVD with their Bee headbands and Maya the Bee teddy bears at the ready.

The girls soon got into the film and had plenty of smiles and giggles during the film, I am sure the popcorn treat helped too

As Maya set off on her unBEElievable adventure with her friend Willy the girls began asking questions which showed they had a lot of interest in the film.

The hornets and the greedy Queen's advisor had them shouting at the TV and we had a few shouts of meanie!

Both girls seemed to really love the film though and have even asked if they can watch it again but this time wear their bee costumes!

Maya the Bee is available to own on DVD and Digital download from the 8th February.  Both girls really loved watching the film and we cannot wait to watch it again.  Great family entertainment.

Stikbots are new to Brainstorm toys, they are pose-able figures which stick to most surfaces.  They become a little therapeutic after a while as you find yourself twisting and turning them to create new stances.  The suction cup hands and feet stick to most surfaces and to each other meaning you can form a chain and a variety of different poses.

What makes them great is the ability to share creations over social media.  The app can be downloaded from either the apple store or google play for free.  With the app you can create photos and stop motion video.

The app itself takes a little practise to get used to the different functions but soon my 5 year old had got to grips with it and was making stop motion video in the garden.

The Stikbots did have a few problems sticking to surfaces outside, so we had to come up with creative ways to get them to stay still for her to do her movies.

The app is clever that it shows you the previous pose so that if you do accidentally move the Stikbot you can reposition back to the same place for continuity in your video.

The girls do have a lot of fun with Stikbots and seem to come up with more and more creative places to stick them.

I seem to be finding Stikbots around the house.

Stikbots are a great way to get kids imaginations working.  The girls think about the 'next' move and how it will look for the film, and they are planning out a story line.  I think Stikbots are a very clever way to get kids minds active.

Here are some of the films my eldest has made:

And my 3 year old even had a go by herself!

You can check out more creations online with #stikbots !

We were sent the stikbot in exchange for a review, all words are my own opinion.

I think the girls have had a tiring week, you can almost tell that half term is around the corner.  With no parties for either of them this weekend we decided to simply stay at home.  I think the girls just need a few days to unwind, relax and not have to go anywhere.  They did however want to play out in the garden and so we planned to stay outside all day.  The weather had other plans and after the hail refused to stop we were forced to come back inside.

It was by this point mid afternoon and the girls asked to watch a film.  Not something they normally request, I gathered it was because they were tired, and agreed.

girls watching a film

Having recently watched 101 dalmatians we decided to watch 102 dalmatians.  Both girls sat and watched intently with my youngest asking lots of questions as she always does.  They both seemed to really get involved with the film and there were a few nail biting moments.

nail biting moments

It was not just the girls who seemed to be engrossed with the film, spotty dog also seemed to really enjoy it!

I have had very little energy today.  Perhaps a combination of a wonderful week away at Bluestone, combined with a long drive home full of detours and entering the third trimester of pregnancy has perhaps taken it out of me.  Either way I had very little energy today and a chill out day was needed.  It was decided a festive movie was in order this morning and the girls were introduced to Home Alone.

They could not stop giggling and found the whole film really funny.  After lunch we decided to continue and watch Home Alone 2.  The girls were just impressed.

After watching our films the girls wanted to make some presents for their friends for Christmas.  This was a perfect opportunity for them to use their My First Beading kit and make some bracelets for their friends,

The kit contained everything the girls needed to make jewellery for their friends.  There was a huge variety of colourful beads and all that was missing in the box was imagination!  The girls had plenty of this and soon began discussing who they were making things for and what they would use.

Whilst the kit is aimed at children aged over 5 my youngest enjoyed making bracelets too.  My eldest concentrated really hard and thought about her designs.  They made 9 bracelets and a hair bobble in total.  Whilst the girls were getting ready for bed I made a bracelet for each of them too, which they both love.

I do love days when you can just chill and not have to worry about anything.  I think it was certainly needed after the amazing week we have just had.

This day I love just chilling

I do love a Lazy Sunday.

The girls very kindly let me have a lie in,unfortunately spotty dog decided she wanted her breakfast at 8.30 but still I got some sleep at least.  We then spent the rest of the day doing those odd little things that needed doing, like homework and I finished the changes needed to the draft assignments.

We then decided to simply spend the rest of the afternoon playing games and watching DVDs.  I think it was the perfect thing to do as sometimes you just need a chill out day.

My youngest decided she wanted to watch 101 Dalmatians and this seemed to capture the attention of spotty dog also.  I think she might have realised she is not a pure bred Dalmatian with the concentration she gave the film.

Which pretty much sums up our Sunday, that and waiting for the plaster to dry on the ceiling.  I cannot tell you how long I have waited to get the front room sorted! [Sorry for the boring picture]

I had the day to spend with my youngest today, I had planned to spend the day outdoors playing but she had other ideas.  Her big sister had gone to the cinema in the week with her friend to see Minions and as a result my youngest desperately wanted to go.  When I asked her therefore this morning what she wanted to do today she replied 'Minions'.

I was a little nervous about taking her to the cinema, she takes after me in wanting to always be on the go but as it was her choice and so we went.

It has never been just the two of us at the cinema before, normally her sister is with us.  She wanted some pop corn and I thought it would be a good way to keep her busy before the film started.

youngest at cinema with popcorn

She was really well behaved and sat through most of the film.  Getting up once to go to the toilet and only wanting to sit on my knee for the last 15minutes of the film.  I was really proud of her and I think we might be going to the cinema again

This day I love a day out with minion.

Two years ago I completed my first Project 365 and last year I took all the pictures but didn't manage to blog it.  I loved looking through the photos in the 365 I completed and really want to document it again this year.

Here is our first week

New Year Day

watching Mary poppins for the first time

We took the Christmas decorations down today and generally had a chilled out day.  One of my eldest favourite songs [other than the entire Frozen soundtrack] is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and she often bursts into song.  She has never seen the film.  We found it was playing on New Years Day and so they watched it for the first time.  The really enjoyed it.

January 2nd

eldest riding her bike

With the snow and ice finally cleared we spent the day riding bikes outside and playing board games inside.  It was lovely listening to the girls laugh on their bikes.

January 3rd

youngest reading

I think because my eldest is now learning to read and we sit and do her words on an evening my youngest is wanting to join in.  I caught her sat on the chair with a book singing jolly phonics songs.

What have you been up to?

The girls have seen lots of adverts recently for the House of Magic

My youngest is fascinated by thunder the cat and my eldest loves all the magic in the trailer.  Thunder is an abandoned young cat who is seeking shelter from a storm.  Thunder sneaks into a mysterious mansion owned by retired magician Lawrence, aka “The Illustrious Lorenzo”.  Follow the story as Thunder and his friends seek to defend their home from Lawrence nephew, who wants to sell it without Lawerence knowing.  Thunder and his friends use all sorts of magical tricks to protect their home.

The House of Magic is released on the 25th July and I cannot wait to take my girls to watch it.  A perfect treat this summer holiday.

If you are looking for a little fun why not download this activity sheet for the kids to colour.

The weather outside is rather cold, wet and windy.  Not wanting to venture too far, I decided that after dinner I wanted nothing more than to snuggle up with my girls and watch a film.  TalkTalk big October Blockbuster is Epic and is available to TalkTalk customers from the 7th October.  I selected from the box office and sat down with the girls to watch

TalkTalk Epic

Epic is an animated adventure comedy from the makers of Ice Age.  I do love Ice Age and so was very keen to watch the film.  Epic stars Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler and is directed by Chris Wedge.  As I had not heard of the film before I watched a preview on Youtube before hand just to check the suitability for the girls.

We all settled down to watch the film

My youngest daughter has rather a short attention span when it comes to the TV, she is not too bothered and so once all the chocolate had gone she happily wandered off to play whilst I sat on the sofa with my eldest.  My eldest at 3 rather enjoyed the film.  I don't think she got all the underlying messages of good Vs Evil etc, but the film did capture her imagination.  She loved the tiny leaf people flying on the birds and really loved the talking slugs and snails.  To be honest they really made me laugh too.

The film itself is beautifully animated and a very easy to follow story line.  My eldest and I enjoyed it and it was just what was needed to unwind before bed on this miserable Autumn evening.  I could not think of a better way to spend my evening.

Sunday

It was a good friend of ours sons third birthday party.  It was at a local soft play and the girls had lots of fun exploring and playing.  I was so proud of both my girls but in particular this moment when my youngest stood up and walked across the rope bridge with ease!

rope bridge walk

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

I left late in the evening on Sunday for work and returned home on Thursday evening just in time to see the girls go to sleep.  Again not wanting to post pictures of service stations, hotel rooms or other random boring things I thought I would just simply leave as this.

Friday

After a long day at work the best way to unwind was with some creative play.  The girls and I had some fun with our Plus Plus and I made some ghosts.

Saturday

The best way to spend a Saturday afternoon, is cuddling up on the sofa with the girls watching a film and eating chocolate!

My eldest daughter is now 3.  I can't believe it.  3.  Time really has flown by, I look at her and she is so grown up.  3.  We started our celebrations bright and early this morning, she awoke at 5.30am.  She opened her present and that was it I could not get her away from it

eldest on her keyboard

Whilst I was making breakfast I could hear her singing.  She sang, incy wincy, did her abc and even sang happy birthday to herself.  I loved listening to her sing and play.

We had to do some shopping in preparation for her party, but shopping is one of my daughters favourite things to do.  After shopping she had her hair done and it looks ever so nice.

My eldest is a huge Monsters Inc and Toy story fan.  I thought for her birthday I would take her to see Monsters Uni and it would also be the first time she had gone to the cinema.  She was excited all day at the thought of seeing monsters.

first time at cinema

She was really good inside the cinema, especially as she has never been before.  She understood the film and asked a few questions, which you would expect.  I think I am going to have to take her to another film now!  We both loved the new Monsters film, it is very funny.  She asked in the car if she could come to the big TV again.  I am going to take that as she enjoyed it.

We stopped in at the toy shop before heading to dinner.  We have a few birthdays coming up so I thought we would quickly pick up some presents.  The girls had their own ideas and soon started taking toys from the shelves that they liked.

I am thinking I might have found what the girls want for Christmas.

The girls, my Mum and I then headed for a birthday meal.  My youngest became fascinated with the ice in my drink and kept taking it out to play and have a look.

My eldest got to choose one of her favourite meals, Pizza.  We opened her cards and some of her presents whilst we waited.

The waitress noticed her opening presents and asked me if it was her birthday.  My daughter asked for some ice cream for desert.  The waitress then brought out her ice cream with a candle in and we all sang happy birthday.  She could not stop smiling and my youngest started to clap.

I had a lovely day with my girls and I hope my eldest loved her third birthday.
