Carving our Pumpkin

We have never carved a pumpkin before, perhaps because the girls were too young and before that not having children we used to just have the treats ready for the few children that came round.  The girls however really wanted to carve a pumpkin this year and were very excited when they awoke this morning to see I had got them a pumpkin!

They began by scooping out the inside, however in doing so they decide to save the seeds so we can grow a pumpkin for next year.  I am not sure if this is to make sure they can carve another pumpkin or if it is because they simply like growing fruit and veg?

After scooping everything out there was a lot of discussion around what they wanted to carve.  We had everything from love hearts, to Minnie Mouse, to Cat in the Hat, to writing their names.  In the end they wanted a spooky face and some bats.  My creative skills were seriously put to the test but we made some spooky eyes in the shape of two bats.  Well that was the plan anyway.

I don't think we did too bad a job carving out the bats and I love the spooky glow they give for eyes.  We have of course entered our pumpkin into the carving competition  with Tower House wares.

This day I love Carving our Pumpkin
