This day I love.......

Last Sunday saw us getting ready for race day.  As a family we are used to the early morning starts on a weekend, as most weekends are running weekends.  Today though was a race day and that meant a proper breakfast.

Little Man tucked into a toasted plain New York Bakery Co, bagel with butter and jam

My husband opted for Marmite and cheese spread.

My youngest had Jam and sprinkles and my eldest honey and sprinkles.

After breakfast we headed over to Rother Valley Country park and made it to the start line with minutes to spare.  The ground was muddy and slippery under foot which meant the next 3km could be very interesting.

The race consisted of two laps around the lake, totalling 3km.  At the same time there was also a 10km and a 5km race under way.  We were not alone in our race, 37 cities in 22 countries were also taking part which meant we broke a Guinness world record for the race taking place in the most cities in one day.

My eldest did not realise she had to run round twice and my youngest spotted the bouncy castle at the finish line so it took some persuasion to get both girls to run around again.  The promise of a medal and a play on the bouncy castle swayed it for them and they soon ran round!

My youngest loved that she got a packet of bagels in her goody bag and could not wait to tuck in!

The race was really well organised and had such a family friendly fun atmosphere to it.  There was plenty to do for the whole family after the race too, bouncy castles and face painting, as well as plenty of bagels to tuck into.

We would love to run the race again next year, and hopefully Little Man can get a medal this time too!

The race also raised money for local charity and donated bagels into local food banks.

The girls have taken their medals and running numbers into assembly as they are really proud of their achievement, as am I.  They cannot wait for the race next year, and at least now they know it is two laps!!
