Milking cows and new lambs

The very lovely people at Cosatto collected my pushchair on Tuesday and sent me a loan in its place.  Today my pushchair came back, all fixed.  One of the front wheels had broken and it made steering rather tricky.  The girls and I had to wait in but luckily it came before lunch.  I decided I would treat the girls and take them out to a nearby Open farm, as they had had to wait in two days this week for parcels.

The farm had several sheep all overdue with their lambs.  It felt like sheep Maternity ward as we watched inside the barn.  The sheep were enormous and you could tell uncomfortable.  They would stand and we watched as their body seemed to move quickly, their ears would go back and they stood frozen almost panting, then go about normal sheep business before repeating the process.  Many kept seemingly digging the straw in an attempt to get comfy.

Although we missed it by 5 minutes one sheep had just had triplets and earlier that morning another two births.  We caught the end of one birth and its lovely to watch how instinct takes over in the sheep to mother and care for the little lambs.

My daughter loves the farm and was telling me all about the different animals.  She really loved watching the pigs

  1. What a great little farm and all the same animals as us! I can't wait for all our spring babies, it is such an exciting time of year to be involved with farming. I would love one of those cow milkers, that would be awesome! I am going to pin that one on my Coombe Mill wish list pinterest board if that is OK? Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.

    1. It was a lovely day out. It really reminded me of maternity ward with the sheep pacing up and down in labour. All that was missing was some birth balls
