This day I love.......

Our flock of Ewan's have been a little lonely recently. The girls are now aged 2 and 4 and since their birth they have had an Ewan. A they have gotten older they have become less reliant on Ewan's magical noise to calm them to sleep and the beautiful red glow is no longer needed. Ewan however is still a much loved member of our family. He gets played with by the girls and can often be found eating grass and giving cuddles.

Our flock of Ewan's seem to be loosing direction and needed a new leader. Russell arrived and has stepped up to the challenge. Russell, the sheep dog, gives great cuddles. The girls were smitten when they met him back in march and love him now he has arrived with us.

Russell has been very good at watching his flock of Ewan and also taking care of the girls.  Russell has a calming blue and green glow which provides great comfort to the girls at night.  You can also record 4 minutes of audio which plays 8 times on repeat [32 minutes in total] to add your own personal touch.  This gives you the option to record whatever you like to help your child to sleep.  With my daughter experiencing a fear of the dark at the moment, the calming light show with the combination of 2 sleep inducing colours has been proven to help the body release soothing and calming hormones thereby triggering sleep.  As the show last 30 mintues this should be enough to help my eldest daughter.

Russell certainly is brilliant at protecting our flock of Ewan and helping to protect the children against their bedtime fears.  Keeping them company and calming away their fears.  Russell is the perfect companion for toddlers and older children.  He really is top dog.

I was sent a Russell to review.  All words and opinions are my own

My eldest is really interested in Sea life.  She has a few favourite bed time reads all of which either involve Pirates or Sea life.  It was a rather wet and windy evening today and so we settled for some indoor messy play with a Sea life theme.

I downloaded some images from Twinkl and printed them off for our play.  I cleaned and crushed 4 egg shells and put out paint that both contained glitter [shiny] and did not contain glitter.  My daughter and I first looked at the paint and picked some pictures.  We talked about the glitter paint and how it was shiny.  How when the light shone on it it sparkled, and looked at the paint without glitter and talked about how it did not sparkle, how it was dull.  We also had light paint and dark paint and we spoke about the difference in light colours and dark.  I was kindly told that the glitter paint was the best and her favourite was the gold.

I then asked my daughter which picture she would like to stick the egg shell onto.  Which she thought might have be hard and which might be rough.  She picked the crab and started sticking the shells onto the picture. We talked about how crabs have a shell and what its for.  She then told me that turtles also have a shell, so we stuck egg shell onto the turtle too.

I gave her other items to stick on the pictures, including sand, cotton wool, rice, porridge oats and pasta.  We spoke about the different textures and shapes.  My daughter asked lots of questions about shapes, textures and colours.  It was really lovely talking to her and watching her learn whilst having fun.  We painted lots of pictures and had lots of fun.  Painting and sticking I have found is a great way to introduce new concepts such as textures and shades.  It really encouraged my daughter to ask questions and it kept her occupied for a good few hours.

lots of paintings

We continued colouring with my youngest but this time looked at different farm animals.  Her favourite animal is sheep, as she makes 'baa' sounds when she sees them

The very lovely people at Cosatto collected my pushchair on Tuesday and sent me a loan in its place.  Today my pushchair came back, all fixed.  One of the front wheels had broken and it made steering rather tricky.  The girls and I had to wait in but luckily it came before lunch.  I decided I would treat the girls and take them out to a nearby Open farm, as they had had to wait in two days this week for parcels.

The farm had several sheep all overdue with their lambs.  It felt like sheep Maternity ward as we watched inside the barn.  The sheep were enormous and you could tell uncomfortable.  They would stand and we watched as their body seemed to move quickly, their ears would go back and they stood frozen almost panting, then go about normal sheep business before repeating the process.  Many kept seemingly digging the straw in an attempt to get comfy.

Although we missed it by 5 minutes one sheep had just had triplets and earlier that morning another two births.  We caught the end of one birth and its lovely to watch how instinct takes over in the sheep to mother and care for the little lambs.

My daughter loves the farm and was telling me all about the different animals.  She really loved watching the pigs

Having spent most of the night up with my eldest who was having some bad dreams, neither of us felt up to doing very much at all.  The weather kept hailing so outdoor play was out.  Which meant some indoor fun.

Whilst I was getting dressed my girls decided to create their own fun using all the toilet paper they could find in the house

I had to laugh because there was paper everywhere and the girls seemed so pleased with themselves.  All this fun tired out my youngest

My eldest helped me unpack a couple of boxes as  I still have not unpacked from our house move last year. It felt good to finally unpack a few, it has been very slow progress.

We spent the rest of the day sticking with various materials, my eldest wanted to make sheep and dinosaurs

Although we were not able to get outside and play, we have had quite a productive and busy day.  My eldest loved using different materials to make pictures with and I love watching her use her imagination.

This day I love toilet rolls, egg cartons and cotton wool.

Back in 2010 when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter I met a lovely company at the baby show in Birmingham.  Back then I knew them as Easi Dream, but today Sweet Dreamers.  They produce a wonderful must have for all parents, Ewan the dream sheep.

Ewan is, to put it simply, a miracle for us.  My children are not the best of sleepers but Ewan really helps and makes a huge difference.  Ewan is a cuddly sheep, a very cute character, with four soothing sounds from his feet.  Each one of his feet plays a different sound.  The sounds are a combination of real womb noises and pink noise.  Pink noise is proven to be more effective than white noise at settling babies.

Ewan has a Velcro tail to fasten him to cot bars, car seats or any other surface you may wish to, he can also be placed outside a Moses basket or a cot.  My youngest has her Ewan fastened to the cot bars.  There are two particularly great features for Ewan.  One is the soft pink glow.  This is to act as a comfort to new babies to replicate the soft glow they would have had in the womb.  The second is that the soothing sounds last for 20 minutes.  Which is perfect for my girls as it usually takes around that long for them to fall asleep.

Ewan

Inside Ewan is the option to make the sounds loud or quiet, light on or off and demo or play mode.  Ewan is more than soothing sounds, he is a great comforting soft toy to older children, he acts as a night light and for me he is a little miracle, I will explain why.

My youngest has always liked to be held, never wanting to sleep in a cot or a crib or any where other than on my chest.  Ewan keeps her calm.  I can lay her in her cot and she will lie and watch Ewans glow and listen to his soothing sounds, occasionally she will fall asleep to him.  With no Ewan she will not entertain the idea of lying in her cot.  If she wakes in the night and I put Ewan on, if she is just needing comfort she falls back asleep but if she is hungry or needs something then she will sit up.  Its a great indicator to me of her needs, so less guess work.  Its not that I don't want to comfort my youngest but when two girls wake at the same time in the night its nice to know what they require and that comfort can be provided for her.

Ewan was the same for my eldest too.  She absolutely loves her Ewan and to this day she will ask for him in particular when she is poorly, she is 2 years old.  What is nice though is that both girls prefer a different sound, my eldest loves the harp noise and my youngest the rain sound.  He has even helped me get to sleep!  I would not be without Ewan, I have only had to change the batteries once in all this time, but keep a supply just in case.  Ewan is a real must have for any baby, child or adult.

[fsid guidelines suggest soft toys are NOT placed in a child's cot until they are at least one year old.  It is therefore not recommended for Ewan to be placed in the cot before your child is one, as always however this is down to each parents discretion]

I am very lucky to have an Ewan to give away, if you would like to be in with a chance of winning Ewan please follow the instructions on the Raffle copter below, and Good Luck.
