This day I love.......

The four gift rule if you haven't heard it is where you buy four gifts that fall into each of the following categories:

Something they need
Something they want
Something to read
Something to wear

Whilst I don't go excessive for the kids at Christmas I do try as best I can to stick with this rule. It is particularly true when buying for my husband. He is really hard to buy for and we usually just end up buying something he doesn't really want or need, something just for the sake of giving a gift. In an attempt to reduce this waste this year I have applied the four rules to his presents and am hoping we will have more success this year.

Something they Need

My husband loves writing in blue ink. I think it must stem back to his school days. He says it looks neater but in our house we only ever have black pens, or weird multi coloured pens the kids use. My husband therefore needs his own pen. I want to get him a pen that will last too, something special and have decided upon the Parker Jotter Royal Blue Ballpoint Pen. What attracted me to this particular pen is the stylish design that gives it a classic Parker pen look. I also rather like that it is manufactured from stainless steel, which gives it a better feel when giving as a gift too. The ink is refillable so my husband should be able to therefore have the blue pen he so desperately needs and one that looks pretty stylish.

Something they Want

My husband loves gaming and always wants the latest console. My budget however does not stretch this far and so instead I have searched for an alternative. I came across the Sega Smartphone controller from Paladone and knew he would love it. There are currently 20 games which can be downloaded for free onto an Android device including iconic favourites such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Tennis and Crazy Taxi. Once downloaded the games can be played via bluetooth using the Saturn shaped controller. The controller also features a holder which means the android phone or tablet can be attached to the controller if this suits your gaming style, or removed if not. I think all gamers hold a secret soft spot for Sega, especially Sonic the Hedgehog. I am secretly excited to have a turn too, but don't tell him!

Something to Read

I thought I might add a slight twist on the something to read and give my husband a journal to go alongside his pen. The Paper Republic Grand Voyageur Leather Travel Notebook in Petrol is perfect to accompany his pen. There are a variety of inserts available to customise to suit his needs; journal, wallet, passport holder, diary and many more, which means he can change as he sees fit. It is perfect for both day to day organising and for travelling too. Handmade in Vienna from vegetable tanned leather it is both portable and sturdy making it the perfect tool for organising and keeping records.

Something to Wear

Something to wear has been really tricky. It might sound easy enough but actually the girls and I have found this one the hardest category to find something for. In the end the girls have picked their Dad some socks, well Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without socks, right?? These socks though are pretty cool. The girls have chosen some rather lovely socks from Frugi. The design is bold, bright and patterned and they feel super soft. I think they have done a good job.

Stocking filler

OK, so I know this is an extra one but it is a little stocking filler and not part of the main gift. I like to just buy a fun stocking filler and saw the Smartphone Light Graffiti and it looks pretty fun. You use your phone and the spray can provided to create light art. It works by using the long exposure on your smartphones camera. Whilst I might have initially got as a stocking filler, I may end up borrowing myself and making a small video as it looks so much fun! I can see the girls wanting a turn too!

I have purchased some of the items in this guide and been gifted others, however I would have purchased them. I decided to put the gift guide together and have received no other payment except product.

Back in July leading retailer Argos predicted the top technology items for Christmas.  These included Playstation VR, Canon SX420 bridge cameras, TomTom Sat Nav and Fitbit Blaze.  The Playstation VR has made it onto the top of my husbands wish list and in 2015 I saw Playstation VR in action and was really impressed.  I can understand why it is the top of my husband's list.

This year during Christmas in July several items have impressed me.  During the Philips event I was impressed with the new range of Finding Dory lights with everything from nightlights to SoftPal.  For gadgets in the home the Airfryer  is a must have.  It is quick and simple to use and would really help with some of the Christmas dinner too!

Fujifilm are adding two new colours to the INSTAX Mini 70 range, passion red and midnight black.  I loved these cameras, with auto exposure control, selfie mode and self timer, all housed within a sleek, compact and modern looking body.  Perfect for both serious photographers and those just wanting to capture the everyday.

Roberts radios are launching new products for Christmas.  Their award winning radios are stylish and packed with a host of features.  Roberts radios is a well known name and is one with trust and good quality associated with it.  A Roberts radio would be a wonderful gift and one built to last.

One of my favourite Christmas in July events for technology was Currys PC World.  Whilst they had a huge range of tech on display my favourite was the Star Wars Sphero BB-8.  I loved how easy he was to control and it was so much fun watching him zip around the floor.  This is sure to be a high sort after piece of tech for Christmas.

Gtech have launched two new products in time for Christmas.  The new AirRam and the New Multi.  The Multi features better suction and a new K9 version which comes with scents to help reduce pet odour.  The new AirRam is very impressive.

The new AirRam is modular and can be assembled in under 20 seconds.  Each piece carefully engineered to work together and slot into place.  This makes it better for storage if you struggle for space, or if you needed to replace a part you do not need to replace the whole unit.  The handle now slides so you can store the handle in a lower position, which is a great new feature.

The suction power has been increased and thanks to clever technology will now pick up even more from gaps between tiles too.  I love how it is now able to clean on both the forward and backwards motion, and backwards works better for cleaning between spaces with no loss of suction.  The new AirRam now tackles a change in surface with ease, and adapts as you move it along the floor.

The battery can now be removed for charging, so no need to have the whole unit stood out of the cupboard whilst charging.  There are now lights on the front of the AirRam which make it easier to see those darker areas on the floor, it actually highlights pet hair really well.  My favourite aspect though is how easy it is to empty.  The bin simply slides out of the main unit and is emptied with a clever slider.  This means that no dirt is left in the bin and the dirt simply slides out in one compact piece.

I am incredibly impressed with the new AirRam and all the advancements over the original.  The AirRam also comes in a AirRam K9 model.  This features slightly stronger suction and an air scent to help remove pet odours, it also has an extra spare filter in the box.  I will be adding a video of the new AirRam shortly.

I have not been asked to write this guide, I attended the Gtech launch but was not asked to write about the new AirRam I simply really liked the new products.

I will be the first to admit I have a sweet tooth.  During this years Christmas in July previews I encountered lots of tempting treats.  Here are my favourites for this year:

1. Rococo Chocolate

I could have stayed at this preview all day, everything looked and smelled delicious.  Ice cream, chocolate candles and of course chocolate treats but my stand out item was this tree.  I love how it could be a decoration on the table at Christmas, a gift before Christmas or a treat to share on Christmas day.  The colours and flavour are out of this world, and certainly one for the top of any sweet tooth wish list.

2. Lakeland cookie cutters

I love to bake with the girls and as we are huge superhero fans these cookie cutters from Lakeland would make a perfect gift.  We can create our own awesome cookies with real WOW factor!

3. Hampers

I love putting together a hamper of food for Christmas and none more so than one full of sweet treats.  Stag bakeries offers sweet straws which are like the classic straw with just a twist.  They are the perfect accompaniment or treat and look wonderful in a Christmas hamper.

Peter’s Yard offer authentic, traditional style Swedish crispbread made here in the UK.  Whilst not sweet themselves, they can work great with sweet treats and help to build up the hamper and create a perfect balance.

For something a little different and a bit special to add to the hamper Baru Marshmallows are the perfect choice.  The marshmallows come in a variety of flavours including sea salt caramel and are a true bite of happiness.  I love the sweet taste and the uniqueness of the marshmallows.  They would make a perfect gift on their own, but a great addition to any hamper.

4. Personalised Marshmallows

Two years ago I met the team at Boomf and loved the flavours.  They are back with even more designs for Christmas this year.  The popular 9 box which you can customise with your own images along with the 2 box, Mallowpops and Mallow Baubles.  There really is something for everyone.

5. Traditional sweets

There is always someone at Christmas who is a little difficult to buy for or even for the friend who loves everything.  Traditional sweets may not seem like an obvious choice but Mr Stanley's range of sweets there is really something for everyone.  From kids to adults there are all your childhood favourites and a whole lot more

What are your top finds for a gift for a person with a sweet tooth?

6. Butterkist Popcorn

Butterkist have a rather wonderful range of festive treats available.  With popcorn in amazing flavours such as gingerbread, salted caramel and choc mallow.  I know my girls would love a packet of popcorn in as a stocking filler for Christmas.

I have received no financial compensation for this guide.  The only samples I have received are those mentioned in the hamper section.
