This day I love.......

I picked my eldest up from pre school yesterday and it had been one of the children in her class birthday.  Parents are asked if their children are allowed a piece of cake to take home and I of course said yes.  My youngest heard the word cake and stood and looked at me followed by the pre school teacher with a look of 'where is my cake?', of course with her not in the class no cake had been cut for her.

My eldest did not really want to share and my youngest was standing her ground.  A little along the lines of unless you give me cake I am not under any circumstances moving from this spot.  My youngest did everything including looking very longingly with her beautiful big eyes.  I could not magic her any cake.  The stand off continued for a good 15 minutes but she was not moving until she got some cake.

I guess rather luckily for me one of the other parents turned down their piece of cake, which created a spare piece.  My youngest was in there in a flash.  As soon as cake was placed into her hands she marched herself rather quickly past me and out the door.  I think she takes after me with her love of cake.

After we arrived home I think all the excitement of the cake was a bit too much for my eldest who then started singing 'I like to move it, move it' which she has got from watching the film Madagascar.  So if like me you have had a rather rubbish day, here is something which I hope might make you smile

This Day I love for the love of Cake

There are just some days when my daughters will do something that I always want to remember.  It is usually something that makes me smile or laugh out loud.  My eldest made me laugh and I had to ring my husband at work to tell him what she had done.

She was playing with a soft ball shouting football yay, football yay as she kicked it around the playroom.  She them kicked it hard and it went into the gap between table and wall and hit the back wall.  She promptly then shouted at the top of her voice, 'Yay!' and then took of her PJ top and ran around the house screaming 'Yay!'  It made me laugh ever so much

This day I love running around saying Yay!

For Christmas my daughter was given a book as a gift called Funny Pets.  The book is part of a Magnetic Funny faces series by Top That Publishing.  Since Christmas this book has provided us with hours of entertainment.

The book, like all of them in the series, contains over 30 different magnetic features.  Each page in the book contains a blank face and a story underneath.  You can then choose to create a serious face or create something comical.  What's great is that there are hundreds of different possibilities as features can be mixed from other books creating even more fun.

My eldest is very much into stickers at the moment.  Any surface she can find to stick a sticker on she usually does.  This book is perfect for her because the magnets allow her to stick, which gets the sticker fixation complete, and then re use.  The magnetic features can then be easily stored in the compartment attached to the book ready for use again.

When I opened the envelope from Top That Publishing, my daughter got ever so excited when she saw that Magnetic Funny Families had arrived.  She took the book from me straight away and settled down to create some family faces.

Creating faces

The book is also perfect if you are teaching little ones different facial features and where they go, or the number of features, i.e. 2 eyes, 1 mouth etc.  The book is recommended from 4+, I think that is more to do with the size of some of the magnets, as my 2 year old loves playing with these books.

Here are two of her creations

I cannot recommend Magnetic Funny Families enough.  It is a great way for me to keep my 2 year old entertained and she gets so much enjoyment from this book.

Discipline tends to be one of those subjects that not many people talk about and one which we often don't ask questions about.  There are lots of different ideas and methods to discipline and the one we chose to implement in our house was the naughty step.

My two year old understands the principles behind the naughty step and often the warning is more than enough.  Our dog today was barking at the postman, like most dogs do.  I told him to stop and he continued to bark and my daughter said 'doggie barking Mummy', I said 'Yes darling, he is naughty not listening to Mummy', she said 'Yes Mummy' and proceed into the hall, where I could here her shouting 'Doggie come here' over and over, followed by 'Doggie naughty step now' I could not stop laughing and watched with amusement as she tried to get him to sit on the naughty step.

This day I love naughty step.
