This day I love.......

Christmas is just around the corner and I thought I would have a look around for things I might like for Christmas.  I know I can be pretty tricky to buy for so here are a few ideas

1. Cuba Oak storage bed

The first item on my wish list would be a new bed.  Our current bed is 9 years old and whilst that may seem nothing at all, the faux leather headboard and sides have started to tear and rip.  The bed does not look at all nice and I have had quotes to re upholster and discovered it is cheaper to buy a new bed.  I love this one as it has extra storage which is perfect for us

2. Heart Door Mat

I would love a nice door mat by the kitchen door.  The kids and dogs use this door to get into the back garden so I often have muddy floors.  A door mat would be a great addition

3. Towels

May sound silly but I would love a new set of bath towels!

4. Door Stop

Our new spotty dog took a bit of a dislike to our current door stop.  No idea why one day she decided to attack it.  This now means I am without a door stop and could really do with a new one

5. Shimmer Twist Rug

Part of the renovations on the house, I am about to replace the flooring in one of the spare rooms to laminate and so would love to put a nice rug in there.  This light shimmer rug is beautiful and would go really well.

6. A New Bedroom

Top of my wish list of things to do is to have a new bedroom.  The current bedroom has fitted wardrobes and furniture that was fitted over 14 years ago.  It is looking dated and is not to my personal taste.  Add to this that the handles fall off on a regular basis and the drawers come off their runners, I am often left frustrated with the room.  I would love a magic fairy to come and transform the room.  I need lots of storage and love the idea of being in control of the space.

7. Bird House

We have lots of lovely birds that come and visit the garden regularly.  The girls and I love to sit and watch them.  A couple have built some nests and it would be lovely to encourage some more with a bird house.

8.Gift Card

If you are really struggling then a Next Gift Card goes a long way.  I can add the amount to my directory account and save up for one of the items above!

I love my sleep.  Before having the girls I would have spent all day in bed if I could.  I have even slept and missed an entire day before.  Now a lie in is classed as anything past 7 am and if I get more than 2 hours solid sleep I have had a good night.  When I do manage to sleep I want that sleep to be good quality.  I never know how long I will get and I need my sleep.

The sleep council have created a fun initiative called Sleeptember.  The idea is to reinforce the importance of a good nights sleep and to remind people of the health benefits.  Poor sleep has been linked with diabetes, heart problems and stroke.  They have come up with 5 things we can do to try and improve our sleep quality.

1.  Remove technology from the bed room.

Technology in the bed room can make it difficult to switch off and unwind.  Even the smallest glow can unconsciously keep you alert when you should be asleep.  I know this to be true and have my phone face down at night so any glow from a notification does not disturb me.

2. Invest in a new bed

Beds should be replaced every 7 years.  We may not notice the change in our beds as they gradually deteriorate over time, but this change can rob us of up to an hour's sleep.  I need a new bed especially given the amount of sleep I could get.

Whilst I am still waiting on the new bed, I have noticed an improvement on the quality of my sleep with a new mattress.  I have a beautiful memory foam mattress from Dormeo.  As I sleep mainly on my side this medium firm mattress is perfect for me.  It also is lined with silver which means it has anti bacterial properties.  It provides great support and I have noticed that I am not suffering with as much aches in my shoulders since changing mattresses.

3. Routine

Going to bed and waking up at the same time sets your body into a rhythm and helps regulate sleep.  I have certainly noticed a difference with my sleep now that I am getting up earlier during the week for the school run.

4. Wind down

Make sure you have some time to unwind before going to bed.  I found pilates and a good book a great way to de-stress before coming to bed.

5. Create the perfect environment.

Creating an environment which is relaxing and inviting to sleep will also aid in a good night sleep.  Invest in some good curtains or blinds that will keep the light out and make the room dark.  Make the room as peaceful and quiet as possible too.

In order to create a beautiful sleep environment I invested in some new bedding from Next.  My favourite is the black velvet panel set.  This beautiful bedding adds a real touch of class with the soft black velvet panels and the silk like texture to the bedding.  Like all bedding from Next, and I have bought a few sets from there, they really do last and are of great quality.

So whilst it might not be possible to control all external factors to your sleep, such as the kids waking up, many things we can control.  Setting a good wind down and bed time routine are perhaps two of the easiest to do.  I would certainly recommend investing in some new bedding to help create the perfect environment.  I had never thought we really needed a new mattress but having experienced a great difference to how my back and shoulders feel, having just moved to a new Dormeo mattress, I would also really recommend looking at replacing the mattress to really help improve the quality of your sleep.

I was sent a Dormeo mattress and a bedding set from Next to review [although I have purchased Next bedding previously].  All words and opinions are my own.

I was invited to look around the new Next home and garden store in Warrington, along with other blogging Mums.  I love Next and am a regular shopper and love that I am part of the Next blogger network, so this was a great chance for me to take a closer look around the store.  Whilst I love the Next range I have never really given much thought about the displays and the thought process behind them.

We began with a tour of the store and I was really fascinated to learn the stories behind each display, that they are not as I previously thought, items simply put together.  There is a story and an inspiration behind each one.  Each item carefully chosen for a specific target person in mind, from the person who loves colour to those that like the neat clean plain styles.  Items inspired by trips to Morocco and items grouped together to show you what works and what you can achieve,

The idea is to make shopping easy.  So that you can simply walk into any Next store and be inspired for your own home.  My favourite item in the Home store was this children's Pirate bed, my daughter is really into Pirates and she would love this

I think though that having seen the following sign I may have found our new house hold motto

What I really liked about the Warrington store, was the wide range available in the garden section.  The thought process continues in the garden too.  With items grouped together to provide inspiration

Items grouped by colour so even those with little gardening experience can easily find what they are looking for.  There is also a wide range of grow your own fruit and vegetables.  I thought it was very useful to see above each of the plants a useful chart to explain the plant labels.  It helped identify quickly what plants like shade or full sun and how hardy the plants are to ice.

After a tour of the store we were whisked away for afternoon tea.  I think I may have eaten far too many cakes but then they were rather yummy.

The remainder of the afternoon was spent relaxing in the spa before having to pick the girls up from nursery.  It was really lovely to meet up with other blogging Mums for the afternoon and spend some time together chatting and relaxing.  A lovely day out with Next.

I was not asked by Next to write a review or a post, I simply had a lovely time and wanted to write about it.  I was provided with a tour of the store, a gift voucher, afternoon tea and a spa treatment.
