This day I love.......

I cannot quite believe it is October already. Where has this year gone? October really is my favourite time of the year, and the start of October also means I open up the diary ready for Christmas bookings!

The girls had lots of fun dressing up for Christmas for me and playing in the studio as I took their photos ready to open up the Christmas books. I often get asked when I do photo shoots for people where I recommend having the images printed, and so when Tesco got in touch and asked me to test out their same day photography printing service it was simply an offer I could not turn down.

I send my clients all of their images with full rights to use for non commercial purposes. Whilst I guarantee a minimum of 10 images the majority of my clients end up with a lot more than this, I think one client once had close to 80. The reason I do this is so they don't need to come back and think about which images they would like to print, and secondly because I think it is nice to be able to have the images to use as you wish.

Tesco photo offer a same day service, order before 12pm and products are ready to collect after 3pm. In my case they were ready to collect within 2 hours. The process is easy to follow. On the Tesco photo website is a selection of items available for same day. These include prints, canvas, photo blocks, framed prints, Mugs, place-mats, coasters, aluminium prints and mouse mats. Once an item has been selected you are then able to upload the image you wish to use from your device, the cloud or a whole host of social media platforms.

The ability to select photos from so many different platforms is great because often you may have an image on Instagram that you may not have else where, or you may have lost your phone and the image maybe on Facebook still. It gives a greater sense of flexibility to order personalised items.

There are even discounts and offers available on the items available for same day printing, so it is worth checking to see if the items you want have offers attached to them. Once discount codes have been applied and all items in the basket it is time to checkout. From checkout to collection you are kept informed via email of when your items are been printed and when they are ready to collect.

Items are then collected from the the selected Tesco store. Payment can be made in store or on line. I actually combined a food shop with collecting my items. It meant I felt more productive as I had to go out to Tesco anyway and this meant I had also collected the personalised items I had ordered too.

From start to finish the service was first class. The website was simple to follow and order from and then the communication to say my order was ready to collect was outstanding. I now have some items ready for Christmas presents and I can also recommend where to have personalised gifts made when a client next asks me.

Oh and in case you wonder why I like October so much, because it is just so much fun!!

I was gifted with 4 items in exchange for this post. All words are my own opinion.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do what I do for a living. When it is 2am and I am sat at my computer writing blog posts or editing photos it never feels like work. It feels right. When I go out to meet a family or a couple or a client for a photo shoot my camera feels a part of me, like it was meant to be there. Time simply flies. Even editing the photos late into the night, I just loose track of time.

I wouldn't change any of it. Of course I want to improve and increase my skill set, but I can never see me not holding my camera or writing this blog. My passion has always been capturing the story as it unfolds. Both my blog and my photography allow me to do this. With 3 children I now have hundreds of photos which tell the story of their childhood.

I need to get this on a sign for my husbands office! This is exactly how he feels about his job as an Ag teacher and FFA advisor.

Looking back through all the photos is simply wonderful. It brings back feelings and emotions from the time. I cannot believe how much more children have grown and changed in such a short space of time. A memory came on my time line of my eldest daughter talking about colours. In the video she is 2, but it feels like yesterday.

Many of these memories are proudly displayed on the walls of my house. Some I even turn into photo books but many others are waiting to be displayed. Finding wall space is one issue, but also working out which image to use as I have so many favourites.

Up until recently I had no idea that you could print your photo onto metal so that the image can be hung outside if you wish. This has been a real game changer as it has opened up more possibilities. The ability to print some of my treasured memories onto metal means I can begin to transform our outdoor space, so that it becomes an extension of indoors.

The girls can choose some of their favourite images too which we can then use to hang in the fairy garden. We can also add splashes of colour onto the walls of the sheltered seating area.

I sent the above image to Hello Canvas to do just that. Create a metal outdoor image to hang in the outdoor seating area. The whole ordering process was quick and simple, the hardest part was working out what image to use. A swift delivery followed, and my beautiful metal print was ready to be hung outside. Unfortunately what also followed was rather a lot of snow, several days of the children off school and now a rather cold snap meaning I have not had time to hang it up outside yet.

I cannot wait until the weather becomes brighter so I can get outside to hang my print up. The colours are bright and bold. I opted for a high gloss look so it has a premium shine to it. The print feels excellent quality and strong enough to withhold whatever the weather throws at it. In fact when I look at it I cannot tell it is printed onto metal.

The print I chose is 20x30cm and is really light weight. There are other sizes available too. On the black are holes ready for the print to be hung up, so there is no messing around and you can hang it up straight from delivery. All I need now is some nice weather to be able to get outside!

Thanks to Hello Canvas for sending the print in exchange for this post, I really cannot wait to hang it up and add a splash of colour to our garden seating area!

There is quite a retro look and feel to the Olympus PEN-F.  Larger than I was expecting and quite heavy for a mirrorless system but this seemed to add to its charms.  The body screams great build quality and with a huge range of lenses available it is sure to appeal to most users.

I first had to get to drips with the menu system on the PEN-F.  The Olympus PEN-F seems to have a button for everything.  ISO, exposure, artistic controls and more all have buttons on the body of the PEN-F, and whilst this takes some getting used to you do 'miss' them should you use another system.  There is a more modern feel to the back of the camera with touch screen navigation, although I did personally find the menu system a little tricky to navigate.

The viewfinder can sense when your eye is present allowing you to switch from viewfinder to screen to make any adjustments.  I found it tricky to hold the camera when using the view finder due to the lack of hand grip on the side, and opted more to use the screen.  The screen is tilt able and can be closed facing into the camera body to give a truly retro look and feel to the camera.

I was impressed at how quick the PEN-F focused on an item but it did seem much suited for use with still items and I struggled to get a non blur image of moving children.  This could be down to my lack of photography skills but I did get a little frustrated at times.

Whilst there are a huge range of lenses available in the Olympus range the PEN-F also works with the Panasonic Micro Four thirds lens range too.  I did notice more noise coming from the Panasonic lens on the Olympus body than when it was on the Olympus body

The Olympus PEN-F has some great filters and creative modes built into the camera.  Whilst these are not for everyone I loved experimenting with what each filter and creative mode would do.  The great thing about them is that because you shoot in RAW the filter can be removed in editing later.

The Olympus PEN-F is a great looking camera, packed with modern features in a retro styled body.  The sharp fast auto focus is perfect for the majority of camera needs.  The image quality is excellent and the retro dials make adjustments easy to make.  I didn't use the video mode so cannot comment on this.

I loved the look and feel of the Olympus PEN-F although I did find it heavy for a mirrorless system.  The image quality is excellent and it would certainly be a system I would recommend.
