This day I love.......

Today has been a day full of mixed emotions.

Just after lunch I attended a funeral of a very good friend of our family.  A lovely lady who I have known for over half my life.  Someone who I loved to talk to and she would go out of her way to help anyone.  A loving, kind and warm hearted lady.  She was always there with a warm caring smile, I will miss talking to her but feel incredibly lucky to have known her.  I feel it is not my place to name her, for I do not wish to upset her family, but simply to say I will miss her.

My girls perhaps sensed my mood when I picked them up from nursery.  I was asked lots of questions from my eldest about why I was wearing black, why I was not wearing my trainers [the actual question was where are your normal shoes Mummy], and why are you wearing a dress.

I think this picture of my daughter perhaps sums everything up

thinking

I think even our dog was feeling it

Then this evening everything changed.  I received an email which I had to read, and then read again.  I could not believe it, these things don't happy to me.  The email said

'I’m delighted to invite you to become one of our official Butlins Ambassadors for 2013/2014 '

I luckily had finished cooking when I read it as I almost fell over with shock.  I really am over the moon, I just cannot believe it.  I really feel as well for all those that applied and were unsuccessful   I have been there on many occasion and know just what it is like.

Another amazing thing happened tonight and that is:

target reached!

I hit my fund raising target! I have now raised over £250 for Alzheimer's society and I could not be feeling more proud.  Sunday is going to be tough, there is no doubt about it, but now I am more determined than ever to do this.  Thank you to all my wonderful supporters!  Please follow us on twitter on Sunday, we will be using the #blogy3p.

This day I love ending on a positive

I have been tagged in a meme by Nichola from fabfortymum, a truly moving blog and a lovely lady.  Here are the rules:

  • Post 5 random facts about yourself
  • Choose 5 other deserving blogs with less than 200 subscribers to nominate and link their blogs in your post
  • Tell your nominees you have chosen them for this award by leaving a comment on their blogs
  • Answer the 5 questions the tagger has asked you and ask your own 5 questions to the people you nominate
  • No tag backs (I will try my hardest)
so here goes:

5 Random Facts about me:

1. I am a fully qualified scuba instructor
2. I am allergic to caffeine
3. I have a fear of falling from a great height [not the height itself]
4. I love to trampoline and can't wait to start lessons again
5. I have a masters degree in engineering

My 5 random questions from Fabfortymum

1.  What one personality trait about yourself do you like the most?
Loyalty towards my family and close friends.
2.  If you could meet anyone living or dead who would you choose?
This is tough because there are two people living who I would love to meet and two dead and its difficult to choose between them.  I would love to have met Alan Turing, if you don't know who he is you may want to google him,  but he is the reason why apple logo is as it is and in my eyes the father of all artificial intelligence.  Would he be pleased or shocked at the way technology has progressed?
The engineer in me would have loved to have met Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to see what he thought of his work today and how engineering has progressed.
In terms of living people I would love to meet Derren Brown, because his mind fascinates me, how he thinks, what he does I find it so interesting.  Finally and by no means least I would love to meet Eddie Izzard.  His mind also fascinates me intelligence and humour.  One of those people you would love to have for dinner as would be great company.
3.  What is your favourite city in the world and why?
I am really not a city person, I much prefer open spaces and greenery.  However if I am to choose a city it would be Vancouver.  It has the green open spaces combined with city bustle and everything just feels peaceful.
4.  What is your favourite song or piece of music and why?
Very tricky I love a huge variety of music and have a favourite piece of music dependant upon my mood.  My favourite all time song is Gone Away by the Offspring the lyrics speak to me on a personal level, its a little hard to explain.  I also like Barry White, You're the first, the last, my everything because its the song I wanted playing when my husband and I were pronounced man and wife and we walked down the aisle to it. Whenever I hear it it puts a smile on my face and I have to dance to it.
5.  Are you a glass is half empty or half full person?
Bit of both if I am truly honest.  I always try to be half full but sometimes it just is half empty.

My five questions are:

1. What has been the most positive thing about your blog/ blogging experience for you so far?
2. What was your first musical concert/event/gig who was it and where and who did you go with?
3. What is your favourite movie?
4. If you could be a fly on the wall where would you be?
5. What part of yourself do you see in your child/children?

The five lovely people I would like to ask to do this are:

1. James at Daddy's Space
2.Carolyn at Chai Tea Mummy
3.Wendy at Glitzy Gleam
4.Carolyn at Diary of a disorganised mum
5. Maddie at Gammon and Chips

please do not feel pressured into this, but it would be great if you would not mind filling it in, thank you.

My youngest had a lie in this morning, which would have been great but my oldest was up at 4 am.  I decided to make the most of only having one up that early and sat in bed cuddling my eldest.  She then asked 'Mummy what are you doing'  I explained I was resting as I needed my energy for playing in the day.  She said ok and then got me the phone charger.  I asked her why she had brought me the phone charger and she rather calmly said ' No Mummy, its charge up Mummy Batteries for playing'. I had to laugh and give her a big cuddle.

We moved into our house earlier this year and one of the things I love so much about it is the outside space.  It backs onto trees and our neighbours either side each have a lovely Oak tree in their gardens.  Today one of the Oaks was due its dead wood removing and general tidy up.  When we went to get dressed upstairs my daughter could see through her bedroom a man in the tree which prompted the following questions:

'Why is there a man in the tree?'
'Why do we cut the tree?'
'Is the tree poorly?' [I think this is because I said he was cutting it]
'What's the man doing up there?'

Whilst trying to get washed I noticed we had no water, nothing came out the tap.  It transpired that there was a burst pipe in the village, just what you need with two small kids.  I have to say the water company were amazing and fetched us bottled water so that I could look after my daughters.  However this raised the following questions from my eldest:

'Where has the water gone Mummy?'
'Why does it not work Mummy?'
'Do we need more batteries for the water Mummy?'
'Can I fix it please Mummy?' [As she comes in with her play tool box, spanner, hammer and screw driver]

When we finally did get ready, we met up with my friend again for a late lunch.  We went to Yummy Yorkshire Ice cream and had some of my favourite ice cream.  We had a scoop of malted milk and a scoop of strawberry, my eldest really loved it but my youngest wasn't too keen.

I really enjoy Yummy Yorkshire ice cream so we came home with a tub of Dandelion & Burdock Flavour, I can't wait to try it.

When we cam home the water was back on, my daughter was pleased.  The tree man had gone, although this prompted several questions as to where he had gone and after yet another busy day I can't wait to recharge my batteries with my Yummy Yorkshire Ice cream.

This day I love Battery, tree and ice cream.
