The start of summer

When do you actually say it is the start of Summer? We had such a beautiful May, yes there were odd days, but actually on the whole May felt warm and rather wonderful. Now we are officially in June can we begin to say summer is here?

Little Tikes conducted a survey of 2000 people which showed the majority of people class the first week in June as the start of summer. Even though summer Solstice is not until much later on the 21st June. Some actually don't feel it is summer until the kids break up for the summer holidays. Surprisingly only 23% said the warm weather marks the start of the summer season for them.

Personally speaking summer season for me is when my hayfever kicks in. Others see it as the first cut of their lawn, although that was late this year and not until May for us. Many others say the start of summer is the sound of children playing outdoors or even the smell of the BBQ.

As a family we spend a large amount of time outdoors, whatever the weather. Summer though is certainly one of the girls favourites. They see it as a chance to play outdoors, for picnics and to play with water in the garden. They love the Splash Face water play from Little Tikes and always ask on the way home from school if they can play in the garden with it. Little Man is happiest when he is dirty. He loves playing outdoors in the garden with sand, stones or mud!

Summer is all about family time in the garden and making the most of the sunshine. It is probably the only time of the year I can also get to the bottom of the washing basket!

When do you class summer as starting?
