May the forth, fifth and Sith
This bank holiday weekend has been pretty good so far, the first for the weather it could not have been better. I think that is our summer heat wave over now though. The second it was Star Wars day and May the fourth will always be with me, for the third reason. It was my youngest first birthday. A whole year! I cannot believe she is 1 already, it really has flown by.
I decided to do things a little different with this post and group 3 days into one because the weekend was spent in party mode, getting ready and celebrating. Our celebrations began with my youngest opening presents just before her swimming lesson
She enjoyed her swimming, and was ever so tired so she had a power nap
Before we began the cleaning and tidying ready for the party on Monday

My youngest enjoyed playing dress up and playing on her percussion table which was her birthday present from Mummy and Daddy. I think this is possibly the coolest looking 1 year old
On Sunday I had the enormous task of making a ladybird cake for our ladybird party, first job was to bake 2 black cakes. I used a Madeira cake recipe and gel food colouring to dye the cake black. Whilst it was cooking the girls and I had some fun in the garden.
The girls helped me to crumble the cake into a bowl and add heaped spoons of chocolate butter cream to the mixture until we had a fudge like consistency. I wrapped this in ball in cling-film and placed in the fridge, whilst I prepared the Madeira cake mixture but this time with red food colouring.
Once the red cake mixture was complete, I used the black dough from the fridge and rolled out different shaped balls. I placed these black balls into a greased cake tin and then covered them in the red cake mixture. I placed the cake mixture in the oven and crossed my fingers the cake would work.

After the girls went to bed I then iced and decorated the cake and was rather pleased, I just hoped the inside had worked too. My Mum helped me to set up the decorations ready for tomorrow.

On Bank holiday Monday the weather was perfect. Our bouncy castle arrived nice and earlier and our guests all seemed to enjoy the sunshine, a beautiful ladybird party.
Oh and the inside of the cake worked out quite well too
This day I love May the forth, fifth and Sith.
I purchased the ladybird party decorations from Party pieces, the girls dresses are from a wonderful and very talented lady at wild things funky little dresses, the bouncy castle company I could not recommend high enough. Our invites were from Simply to impress and I would not hesitate to use them again, as they were simply stunning and came beautifully presented.
