This day I love.......

May bank holiday always starts off with celebration, my youngest daughters birthday.

Perhaps the best start to any bank holiday is birthday cake and one with colourful buttercream and unicorns! She was incredibly pleased with her cake and her presents. Her party had been the day before so we celebrated at home after school on Friday night, and perhaps ate far too much cake.

Saturday saw another celebration. My daughters 10th adult parkrun and my 50th. It has taken 3 years to get to this point so feels a long time coming.

The sun as shining and it was such a beautiful day. My eldest daughter did a sprint walk, as per usual, and so no PB's were set but it was just a beautiful morning.

The beautiful weather was also the perfect excuse to play in the allotment too.

I think Little Man would have spent all day digging if we let him!

Sunday was as beautiful as Saturday and the warm weather continued. I had a local race in the morning which I struggled with the heat but loved the route. I love this picture taken by fellow runner and photographer Steve Frith. He is fundraising for Mountain rescue at the moment so any donations are appreciated.

After my run the kids wanted to go on a bike ride so we headed back to the beautiful grounds of Nostell Priory to take advantage of their bike tracks.

A stunning 5km bike ride through the bluebells and the woods. Followed afterwards by a treat of an ice cream in the cafe.

The good weather continued into Monday and another visit to Grandma and Grandad house, and a chance to play once again in the allotment.

All three of my children love the car Grandad made for them and Little Man has now worked out how to drive it. He's not the safest of drivers so his big sister does help him!

Before the sunset on a wonderful Bank holiday I managed to squeeze in one more run. How beautiful is that view!

With the kids successfully worn out from three very sunny days filled with fresh air and out door play we could then unwind on an evening and play the Pointless mini Game.

Similar to the TV show, which we are all huge fans of, the game looks for the answer with the lowest score. Each card contains a question and 5 possible answers but in cryptic format. Work out the answer which you think has the lowest score. There are 6 rounds to play and the overall lowest score wins. With 120 cards it is difficult to remember which answers score the fewest points. I would say the game is for over 12s as some the questions are fairly tricky! Good fun to play when the kids are in bed and a great way to unwind after the bank holiday.

We are looking forward to the next May bank holiday, not long to go!

The pointless game was sent for inclusion in the post. all words are my own opinion.

Sometimes things don't go quite according to plan.  Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

The girls really wanted to ride their bikes this weekend and so on Sunday afternoon that is what we did, sort of anyway.

My eldest started off riding her bike but her sister, who had opted to ride her scooter, zoomed off in front.  My eldest really did not like this and started sulking.

What started off as a lovely way to spend some time together ended up with a sulking eldest daughter and abandoned bikes.

My youngest seemed oblivious to the fact and kept whizzing up and down the path on her scooter.

Sometimes we make the best plans and sometimes it just does not happen.

We returned home after an hour in the park.

My eldest seemed to perk up once we got back and we actually had a really fun afternoon.  I guess sometimes the girls just need a bit of time at home or playing at Grandma and Grandad's house and not the bike ride they think they need!

This day I love an unplanned Sunday

My eldest has wanted to ride her bike without the training wheels on for quite sometime.  I struggled to support her whilst pregnant and since having Little man have found it difficult to juggle her request of learning to ride a bike.  We came across a local facility that can help children to learn to ride a bike.  I booked the girls in for today and we left the house early this morning with both girls very excited.

To begin with they were given tricycles to ride in order to asses their pedalling ability.  My youngest needs to work on her leg strength and to stop looking down so she was left on the tricycle, whilst my eldest was given a two wheel bike.

I watched the girls go round and round the track.  My youngest loving the freedom to ride and my eldest gaining in confidence.  I lost count of the number of times the girls went round but the smiles never left their faces.  Both girls were awarded with medals for their improvement and bravery, my youngest fell off but she got straight back on and continued riding.

On the final lap just as we were about to leave my eldest did this

I am so incredibly proud of her.  She still has a little way to go to master riding as she is a little wobbly but I am so impressed with what she has accomplished in a day.  Both girls have asked when we can go again as they really enjoyed themselves

This day I love the day the training wheels came off

Now my eldest is at school I rarely get time with her on a one to one basis.  I really miss spending time with her on her own.  I decided that during the school holidays I would make time to spend some time together and with her sister in nursery we had the day just the two of us.

After dropping her sister at nursery I asked her what she wanted to do and said she could do anything.  She replied 'Ride my bike, feed the ducks and have a Yorkshire pudding for lunch'.  Sounded like a good plan to me so we headed out to feed the ducks and ride our bikes.

I was full of pride watching my eldest ride her bike, the path is shingle based so the wheels kept slipping .  This did not deter her and she put all her effort into riding.  I saw the smile on her face and realised how proud she was.

Eldest riding her bike

The bike ride helped to build up an appetite for lunch and of course I kept my promise of a Yorkshire pudding.  We still had some time before picking my youngest up from nursery so I asked my eldest if there was anything else she wanted to do, 'Bake a cake please Mummy'.

This gave us the perfect opportunity to try out the Annabel Karmel cooking toys from Casdon.  The range offers full working cooking utensils to encourage children to cook and adopt a healthy life style.  Annabel Karmel also includes a recipe book full of ideas and it is here we got the recipe for the cake.

Annabel Karmel baking set

My eldest was incredibly happy with her baking equipment, looking and feeling just like the real thing.  The Ultimate bakers set was just phenomenal and I actually think my daughter now owns more decorating equipment than me.

She could not wait to get started and we followed the very easy recipe for chocolate cupcakes, although we ended up making a cake inside.

Baking cakes

My daughter stirred, and mixed and loved that the baking equipment was hers for making cakes with Mummy.

The cake was lovingly decorated by my eldest and then promptly eaten before I could get my camera to take a photo!

I had a really fantastic day with my eldest and loved spending time with her

This day I love a bike ride and cake baking

Myself and Lisa are currently involved in a project with the National trust.  We are aiming to raise awareness of the 50 things to do before 11 3/4 .  I am very pleased to say that my daughters have done the majority of the list.  Even at 15 months my youngest daughter has experienced a lot of the list and has enjoyed them.  We sometimes adapt the activity to make it age appropriate for example climb a tree, I let the girls climb as high as they are capable and pick a small easy to climb tree.

Our project is to get together a team of 50 bloggers, with a wide range of ages of children, and for each blogger to video one of the activities from the list.  The idea is to show that the list is accessible to all age ranges and is relatively simple to do.  Also to show how much fun you can have completing the list.

Today the girls and I undertook our activity from the list, a long bike ride.  I guess the first point is the definition of long.  For me a long walk is over an hour, but a long walk to my 3 year old is 15 minutes.  The same with a bike ride.  For me a long bike ride is a good few hours but for my daughter its around 15 minutes.  I was quite surprised then that she managed 1 hour and a half.  That is a long bike ride.

I filmed the bike ride but have selected certain bits to make a shorter video

My daughter loved it and is growing in confidence on her bike.  I love that 50 things to do before 11 3/4 encourages children of all ages to get outside and be active, and to try new things.  Why not take a look at the list for yourself?

This day I love the places you will go.

If you have written about the National trust 50 things to to do before you are 11 3/4 please do link up below I would love to read.
