This day I love.......

In just over a weeks time I am going to be taking on the Yorkshire marathon, again.  It is fair to say the first time I did this things did not go according to plan.  Still, an achievement completing a marathon and even more so pregnant, but this time that course and I have history.  A history so deep that I am now having mini panic attacks about it, I am not sleeping right and my head is playing the route over and over.  I have worked hard this time, train hard and am fuelling better than I was before.  I would say right, but I still love cake.

Mornings are perhaps the hardest to get breakfast right.  It involves rushing around trying to feed three children and the dog.  By the time I realise it is almost time for school and there is a mad dash to get dressed in time.  Breakfast though is the one to get right.  It is the one that sets you ready for the rest of the day.  The girls go to school on a full stomach, they can concentrate more on their work and not sat thinking about when it is lunch time.  They go to school with breakfast and they have more energy to concentrate and to play at play time.  I notice a difference in me too, I snack less if I have had a good breakfast and I have more energy to fuel my runs too, allowing me to run better.

Quick breakfasts that are healthy and low in sugar are difficult to find.  Ready Brek offers a solution that the whole family enjoy.  Made from wholegrain oats, it is rich in Calcium, Vitamin D and high in oat fibre.  It even has no added sugar or salt, given a bowl of Ready Brek is ready in under 90 seconds it is a quick and healthy breakfast.

The smooth texture of Ready Brek makes it perfect for the whole family, even Little Man at 18 months enjoys it.  We can vary the taste of Ready Brek to suit our own individual preferences.  My eldest loves hers with honey, my youngest loves strawberries in hers and Little Man loves cinnamon and raisins in his.

I have added Ready Brek into my banana and peanut smoothies to make it even more filling before I head out on my long runs.  Ready Brek is also versatile as it can be used in cooking.  It can be used in toppings for crumble, with melted butter for the base on a cheesecake or even in cookies to make Oatmeal and Raisin cookies.

The girls were super excited to be taking part in a scavenger hunt but this wasn't any ordinary scavenger hunt, we’re taking part in the H&A summertime scavenger hunt!  For our scavenger hunt we could think of no better place than Grandma and Grandads garden!  Full of places for the girls to explore and a little more exciting than our own garden it was perfect.

I gave the girls the list:

Something blue
A rainbow
Something that grows
A summer creepy crawly (butterflies, ladybirds, beetles)
A circle
A red front door
A ball
Something on wheels
H&A Frozen Olaf Bath & Shower Bubbles
H&A Frozen Olaf Colour Change Wash Mitt

My eldest read the list and both her and my youngest ran around the garden looking for things, the first item on the list caused a few arguments my eldest pointed to her swing and my youngest pointed to her slide both blue and both needed playing on before we could continue

My eldest then went a little out of order, but that's OK.  She remembered seeing red door on the list and took me to the car at the top of the drive.  Sure enough it had a red door and with it only a 2 seater it had a red front door.

Back to the list the girls were struggling to find a rainbow so we put this on hold to look for the next item on the list.  For some time the girls have been waiting for Grandads fig tree to grow some figs, and for the figs to grow enough for them to eat.  As soon as the girls read something that grows they ran over to the fig tree and pointed to the figs that they are so eagerly waiting to grow.

Hunting high and low there appeared to be no creepy crawlies, the girls did say the dogs crawl and they could crawl which I thought was a wonderful interpretation of the item to find.  Putting another on hold for us to find later we set off in search of a circle.  The girls tried to catch spotty dog as the quite rightly pointed out that spots are circles, but she wouldn't sit still long enough.  My youngest looked down and got very excited when she saw the spots on her wellie boots, lots of circles!

Next on the list was a ball.  With three dogs running around the garden I thought the girls would have picked up one of the balls the dogs play with but instead they pointed at the statue at the bottom of the garden, I love how the girls interpret each item.

We jumped into the girls electric car, which also was something on wheels, and headed to the end of the garden to hunt for creepy crawlies and a rainbow

At the end of the garden are some lovely blackberry bushes, scavenger hunting was clearly hard work as both girls stopped for a quick bite to eat.

It was rather lucky they did because hidden amongst the apple trees near the blackberries the girls spotted a butterfly, a perfect summer creepy crawly.

We hunted high and low for a rainbow, my youngest however began turning over flower pots.  As she did so she began singing I can sing a rainbow.  Then she started jumping and screaming, 'a rainbow Mummy a rainbow!'  Sure enough under a plant pot she had found a rainbow

A garden H&A scavenger hunt meant the girls were now ready for a bath, and a bath and Grandma house is obviously much more fun.  We ran the bath with our H&A Frozen Olaf Bath & Shower Bubbles

It was not long before the girls jumped into the warm bubble bath and had a nice warm hug with their H&A Frozen Olaf Colour Change Wash Mitt

A perfect way to spend the day at Grandma house!

Blackpool is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Britain. People travel from all over the UK and Europe just to visit this wonderful place. It sits by the seaside and plays host to marvellous views and scenery. Blackpool tends to have stunning weather in the summer, but can be prone to a few showers! Ah yes, the unpredictable British weather causes problems for anyone holidaying in the UK. But have no fear, there are still lots of things you can do on a rainy day in Blackpool!

Go Out To Eat
Don’t let the rain stop you from having fun during your stay. You can still go out and enjoy a fine dining experience! In fact, there are plenty of great places to eat in Blackpool, so your options are diverse. Just make sure you book a table if needed, and bring your appetite! There are loads of great cuisines to explore, so pick whichever you like best.

Visit An Art Gallery
There are still plenty of things to do in Blackpool on a rainy day, one of which is visiting an art gallery. The Grundy Art Gallery is the most famous in Blackpool and hosts a wide range of great exhibitions. There’s a combination of classic, historical, art and modern, contemporary pieces. It’s a fantastic way to spend your rainy day and have plenty of fun too.

Blackpool Tower
An iconic landmark in the city of Blackpool, and a fine thing to visit on your trip. Don’t be fooled into thinking you’re just going to be visiting a historical structure, it’s much more than that! Blackpool Tower plays host to one of the UK’s most popular circus acts and puts on shows in the dungeons. Then there’s the ‘Tower Eye’ which offers you splendid views across Blackpool. Also, there’s an indoor adventure park for the kids to enjoy too. There’s something for the whole family in the Blackpool Tower, all of which can be enjoyed even when it pelts down with rain.

Indoor Water Park
Yes, you read that correctly, Blackpool has it’s own indoor water park! The Sandcastle Waterpark is a great place to visit when the typical British weather decides to arrive. Most people tend to visit Blackpool because it’s a lovely seaside town. So you're bound to pack swimming gear for your stay! You might not be able to wear it on the beach, so go to the waterpark instead. There’s loads of slides to enjoy, as well as a range of pools and tropical indoor weather conditions. Not even the rain can stop you from having a brilliant holiday experience!

There’s no reason you can’t enjoy a trip to Blackpool even when it rains! The weather gods tend to be unkind to the UK, and the weather is always unpredictable. So even if the forecast says sun during your stay, there’s always the chance it could randomly rain! But that doesn't mean you can’t still have lots of fun. Try out a few of these awesome ideas and you’ll soon forget all about the horrible weather.

With the recent beautiful weather my eldest daughter has been asking me for a picnic.  I could see no reason why not and so for lunch we had a picnic in our garden, a beautiful Spring picnic.

Having a picnic gave us the perfect excuse to try out our new OXO tot divided plate, spoons and forks and twist top water bottles.

OXO tot products

The divided plate shows the portion size for each food category, meat, dairy, fruit/veg, which is great for meal planning, however as this was a picnic I wanted to use it more for adding healthy snacks and bite sized nibbles for the girls.  The plate worked really well and showed some beautiful Spring colours

Divided plate

The girls had no problems picking what they wanted to eat and thoroughly enjoyed the selection.  Whilst they could use the fork and spoon set with its comfy grip handles, they soon abandoned them as they found it easier to use their fingers for the picnic.  [They have used them since for dinner with no problems].

The picnic was going really well, the girls enjoyed themselves and ate lots of lunch.  They even spotted lots of animals in the garden, I think the Squirrel eyed up some of our lunch.

Spring picnic

We thought at one point we may have had to abandon the picnic when one of the OXO twist top water bottles got knocked over.  However when the twist top is closed it is spill proof, which was rather lucky as it meant we could continue with our picnic, accident free!

It was lovely to sit outside in the sunshine and have our lunch as a picnic together.  I think the girls eat more when food is presented this way to them, as they can choose what they want.  As all the OXO tot products are dishwasher safe, that we used, it meant I could clean and tidy up quickly so I could spend more time enjoying the sunshine with the girls.

This day I love a Spring picnic.
