This day I love.......

This is a featured post in collaboration with Walkers crisps.

Now here’s the story from A-Z….

If you didn’t sing that sentence to a certain Spice girls song then…. Well I am not sure how to end that

I grew up in the 90s. The 90s were my school years, leaving primary school and entering high school, leaving high school for college and learning to drive a car. The 90s saw me leave childhood and become a teenager, almost into adulthood. They were a big part of my life.

My musical taste is, well let’s say not mainstream, but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember the songs of the 90s. I remember my sister having a Spice girls poster on her bedroom wall and her listening to their songs. Whilst I wasn’t listening to them direct, they had an indirect impact on me. For some reason I seem to know the words to the vast majority of their songs. In fact watching my friends and sisters perform the dance moves to Spice Girls stop means that they are permanently etched into my brain even to this day.

My Facebook timeline and my Instagram newsfeed is currently flooded with 90s bands. Take That reunion tour, Westlife reunion tour and the Spice Girls. It’s almost like the 90s again, except I have young children in tow and want to be in bed by 9.30pm. I see the excitement on my friends faces as they head out to watch the bands they loved growing up, it’s almost like been back there again only this time with a lot more grey hairs thrown in.

It would appear it is not just my social media timeline that is reliving the 90s. Walkers, the UK’s favourite crisp brand, has teamed up with iconic girl group, Spice Girls, for a nostalgic throwback to the 90s in its new TV advert and have begun the search for the  Spice Girls Best Ever Fan, during the girls UK tour. Fans were asked to post a Spice Girls related snapshot from back in the day, or to create something new and share on their social channel of choice, tagging @Walkers_Crisps and hashtagging #BestEverFan.

The entries have been amazing and I would recommend you have a look, there really are some serious fans out there. How they will choose I winner I do not know. As for the advert, well that runs from 2nd June until the 21st July 2019 and in case you missed it you can watch it again here.

Walkers Mighty Light

A large box arrived on our door step last week.  I wasn't expecting anything so the girls and I eagerly opened the box.  We had a very lovely surprise.  Walkers had sent us one of each flavour of their new Mighty Lights.  Not just one packet, but one multi pack of each flavour.  The three flavours are Lightly salted, Roast chicken and Cheese and onion.  Mighty Lights have 30% less fat than standard potato crisps [on average], I therefore will allow my girls [3 years and 15 months] to have them as a treat.  Walkers Mighty Lights are ridged potato crisps.

My girls as you can tell from the above, showed no hesitation in wanting to try their Mighty Light crisps.  Both thoroughly enjoyed their Mighty Lights and the pack was emptied rather quickly.  I even had calls for more crisps please Mummy.  I like that Mighty Lights contain no artificial colours or preservatives and no MSG.  With Mighty Lights also been made by Walkers they are coming from a brand that I trust to deliver on a great crisp.

I was pleasantly surprised that even though Mighty Lights have 30% less fat than a standard potato crisp, the crunch and the flavour are not compromised.  In fact I prefer Mighty Lights over a standard potato crisp.  I often worry that the flavour of cheese and onion crisps might be too over powering, but I found these just right.  Even better I did not walk around 'tasting' the flavour of the crisp for the rest of the day, which I often find with other cheese and onion crisps.  Lightly salted is also exactly what it says, lightly salted.  Just enough to add taste without leaving you gasping for a drink of water.  Roast chicken was my favourite.  A really lovely taste, just right.

I prefer ridge crisps too as I think they hold their flavour better and I certainly wasn't disappointed with Mighty Lights.  Really lovely deep ridges and packed full of flavour.  With school starting shortly its nice to know that their is a potato crisp available that is 30 % less fat than a standard potato crisp and has a great tasting flavour meaning both adults and children will love them.   Perfect for school lunch boxes and adult lunch boxes.  I know I will be having a packet in my car.

Mighty Lights are also suitable for vegetarians and a great source of fibre.  So which flavour will you choose?  Cheese and onion, Lightly Salted or Roast chicken, hang on the Roast Chicken are all mine!

Mighty lights are now available to purchase.  Go on give them a try, they are perfect for lunch boxes, snacking and to take out and about.

We were sent a multi pack of each flavour of Walkers Mighty lights to review.  All words and thoughts are my own personal opinion.

I am always up for a fun challenge, and tots100 have teamed up with Walkers Hoops and crosses to do just that.  I love making the girls food interesting for them, and I find that they often eat more if they are fun and interesting.  I set about making this creation for my cheeky monkeys

This photo is our entry into the tots100 #hoopsandcrosses competition.  I took the crosses and made some hair.  I used a cookie cutter to make a jam sandwich into a perfect circle, for a face.  The hoops were used for eyes.  With a raisin nose and a fruit button smile added to pepper ears and cucumber grass my cheeky monkeys loved their cheeky monkey lunch!

The girls love to have a snack and watch their favourite films.  I often worry though that the things they snack on are very unhealthy for them.  Whilst I try to give them fruit, they often want crisps and chocolate.  Walkers new Hoops and Crosses are made from Whole grain and contain no artificial colours and no preservatives.  They also have only 85 calories per bag, fantastic!

hoops and crosses

We were sent Roast beef flavour for review but they also come in Salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail  all flavours are suitable for vegetarians.  Not normally a roast beef flavoured crisp fan I was a bit worried but I really enjoyed the taste, as did the girls

The size of the crisp packet appears smaller than normal packets, but this makes it a great size to fit in lunch boxes.  I will be having a packet in my glove box in the car ready for when the girls or myself are hungry after a long day.  They are also a great size to fit into handbags too!  The size of the crisps are great for little hands to pick up.  My youngest at 1 year old had no problems and kept helping herself.

I think these maybe on our shopping list as both girls thoroughly enjoyed them as did I.  These are a perfect treat for all little monkeys

My youngest daughter has now started to use her push along walker.  She previously would pull to standing with it and push it, then maybe take one or two steps.  Today she started to walk with it.  This is a huge milestone for her and I cannot believe how much she is growing up.  It is flying by so quick.

My eldest and I made pirate masks today, as she has a real fascination with pirates and pirate treasure at the moment.  The other day whilst shopping in the supermarket I went to pay to discover that she had taken all my money out of my purse and replaced it with her pirate treasure, funny yes but not great for paying for food.

She loved playing pirates with her mask on and was so quick at running round in it that all the pictures I have are a bit blurry

We had loads of fun pretending to be pirates and looking for treasure.  I could not get the mask off her for her dinner and it was only when she needed to get her PJ on for bed that it came off.

This day I love Pirate masks and walkers.
