Preparing for the Arrival of a New Baby

Thing 3 is set to make their appearance into our lives any day now.  After our 36 weeks scan it now feels like we can finish those last minute preparations

Stock Up on Essentials

I intend to use a mixture of both cloth and disposable nappies.  I have washed and strip washed all cloth nappies and got them all ready in the nursery.  With disposable nappies you should be prepared to be using as many as twelve per day and these are all ready in the nursery.  You can never have too many.  We have a moses basket downstairs, which was kindly gifted to us by a friend and we have also been gifted clothing bundles, to see us through the first 3 months.

Prepare the House

Nesting instincts seem to kick in before baby arrives and you find yourself cleaning everything from skirting boards to behind the radiators.  We have finished the nursery and built the cot, even though baby will be sleeping in our room for the first 6 months it still helps to be prepared.  J is used to the arrival of babies but this will be a first for spotty dog.  We have been trying to prepare our pets for Thing 3 arrival as much as we can, although I think J already knows.

Pack a Hospital Bag

I posted earlier and also on YouTube about how to pack a hospital bag.  It is a good idea to have one ready as you never know when labour will begin.  My hospital bag is ready and I have also ensured my husband knows where it is, just in case.

Think Ahead to Save Time in the Future

When you are looking after a child, it can be difficult to find time to do anything else.  I have had to plan for what will happen if I go into labour whilst the girls are in school.  Put plans in place for childcare if it is during the night.  Not only this but also thinking about the first few days with a newborn.  We have frozen meals in the freezer and plans in place to help with the girls.  It really does help to prepare in advance for the arrival of a new baby.
