This day I love.......

We started our Summer holidays with a very long car journey to visit my sister in Worthing.  We had not been to see her new house and the girls were desperate to go and visit their Auntie.  It was a perfect way to start of the summer holidays.

Little Man made himself at home as soon as we arrived.  My sister is a dog walker and also boards dogs so Little Man decided to pick out one the dog bed he liked the best.  He did have a real bed before anyone says anything!

We had a mix bag of weather, seeing all seasons in a week.  Everything from bright hot sunshine, to hail and heavy rain.  We made the most of the sun when it made an appearance by heading out and exploring the many beaches.

Little man absolutely loved the beach.  Sand to dig and run through his fingers through, water to splash in and rocks to throw!  He was in his element and could not stop smiling.  The girls enjoyed exploring the many rock pools and dipping their feet in the water.  I wish I had taken my proper camera with me, instead making do with the phone.

We spent lunches in independent cafes, discovering new foods and meeting new people.  Drinking milkshakes, eating ice creams and yummy cake.

The pier provided much entertainment for the girls.  Rides and things to explore.  Watching the sea below.  Taking everything at a nice east pace and simply enjoying our time away.

During the warm weather you would be forgiven thinking you were abroad.  Standing on the pier and looking down the coast was simply beautiful.

I had discovered a local race taking part during the week and could not resist taking part.  It was absolutely throwing it down with rain, I was soaked to the bone before it even began.

The highdown hike as the name might suggest was a rather hilly route.  Coming from a place full of hills I was intrigued as to what was classed as a hill in the south.  They didn't disappoint.  After a double lap of a football pitch in the pouring rain, we headed towards the first hill.  A zig zag style course, up a bit, along, up a bit along.  seemed to be the theme of the day.  Wind blowing and pushing off course, small narrow paths making over taking impossible, you ran at the speed of the person in front.  Very, very slippy in sections where the exposed rock had got wet, challenging in others where the long wet grass made running difficult.  Downhills where I would have got some speed were too slippy under foot, and having seen one runner slip and injure themselves decided it just wasn't worth the risk.  Back into the football field for a final lap before finishing!

It was however a really enjoyable course and route, and had the weather conditions been better a fast course.  I loved the experience, and it was really fascinating watching all the different clubs meet up.  An outsider watching an array of colours form groups, people chatting and discussing the race.  It was simply great to observe for a change before a race started.

Our final day was spent chilling at my sisters house, because sometimes you need to dress up as a cowboy and eat raisins on the stairs.

We had had a fantastic week in Worthing with my sister.  No real plans and taking things slow.  A perfect start to the summer holidays.  Just going with the flow and exploring the local area.  A wonderful week away!

I think the first week of this New Year has been quite tough on us all.  It is difficult getting back into a routine, the 6am starts accompanied with the dark and cold mornings are simply not helping.  My youngest comes home from school and spends the afternoon cuddled up with me on the sofa.  She is simply too tired to do anything else.  My eldest comes home from school and pretty much does the same thing.

We then have over tiredness at bedtime, which results in both girls not wanting to sleep and it taking a long time before either of them falls to sleep.  The week is then one vicious cycle of tiredness, with nothing much achieved.

Youngest at bed time

A relaxing weekend would have been want we all needed, to refresh and recharge.  Unfortunately the girls had 3 parties to go to between them on Saturday.  I am not complaining they had parties, far from it as I love they have lots of friends.  Rather that we could have done with a lie in and a lazy Saturday.

Sunday saw my youngest attend another birthday party and once again a busy rushing around morning.  After the party we made the most of the dry Winters day and spent time exploring the garden.

eldest in the winter sun

The girls made the most of the time in the garden, making mud pies and playing on the swings.  The winter sun seemed to spark something in J as he had a sing in the middle of the garden, that or he was calling the squirrel down from the tree.

dog howling

I think we all needed the time outside in the fresh air.  Time outside just to feel the sun on our faces, especially after all the rain over the past few days and time to stretch our legs outside.  It might not have been the lazy weekend we needed but Sunday afternoon helped to recharge our batteries ready for the week ahead.

This day I love the first week back

The end of the year and the end of the second trimester.  The 30th December 2015 sees me turn 30 weeks pregnant and to be honest I cannot quite believe it.  Had someone told me this time last year I would be expecting a baby I would have not believed them.  Christmas preparations have meant I have not had as much time as I would have liked to write down the past few weeks and the last update was at 23 weeks.

At 23 weeks I was diagnosed with diastasis recti, hip displacement and torn abdominal muscles, it perhaps goes without saying that the past few weeks have been spent seeing various physios and specialist and involved a lot of pain.  I have had to hang up my running shoes, and cannot lift anything heavier than what my little finger can lift.  Emotionally the past few weeks have been challenging.  It breaks my heart I cannot pick up my girls and give them a cuddle.  I have to be really careful what I do lift, in the long run though I know it is for the best.

Giving up running has not been easy, I really miss it.  I miss getting out and being active.  I miss walking the dogs, I cannot do it in case they pull, and I really miss my independence.  It has meant a whole lifestyle shift and change in attitude and to be honest this is really difficult.

I now see the physio weekly and have various exercises to do to try and reduce pain and injury.  At 27weeks I had my ribs manipulated so I could breathe and also my pelvis re aligned.  This was a strange experience as at one point I lost complete control over my legs and could not move them, completely paralysed from the waist down.  Luckily the issue was corrected and my pelvis was twisted back into the correct position.  The pain is less but it is still there.

Thing 3 keeps giving me scare days.  They have a few days of a lot of activity followed by a couple of days of hardly any movement and it is on these quiet days I panic.  I seem to have a niggle in the back of my mind I cannot shake that something is going to go wrong.  No idea why, but I cannot get rid of it and on those quite movement days I really panic.

The midwife has put me on fortnightly check ups, which in some ways is nice as I get to listen to Thing 3 heart beat more often.  It is always 140 bpm, every time without fail.  I am still measuring big, approximately 2 weeks ahead of where I should be.  I have a scan this week to have a look at the weight of Thing3 and another at 36 weeks.  It is at this 36 week scan that a decision will be made as to when I will deliver.  All I know at the moment is it is very doubtful they will let me continue past the 40 week mark and have been told they are likely to induce me around 38weeks.

Work has finally started on the nursery, the walls painted and the flooring has been laid.  The cot has been built and thanks to the generosity of friends Thing 3 even has clothes for the first 3 months.  I have a few pieces of furniture to build and then will share the nursery on the blog.

We are now owners of a 7 seater car, ready for thing3 arrival.  All we need is a car seat to bring Thing 3 home in.  I think things are slowly coming together and now Christmas has finished we can focus more on getting ready.

This pregnancy has been hard on me and I am hoping that the final trimester will be easier.  Although I am guessing as thing 3 grows in weight and size I may not be quite so lucky.  If anything like the girls I have cramp, braxton hicks and heartburn to look forward to as well.

I had a favourite pencil case at school. It looked like an ordinary case with a lift up lid, but on the outside there were lots of buttons. Each button made a secret compartment appear. The compartments flipped up, spun out and popped open. There was a hidden pencil sharpener, a special compartment for your ruler and even a hidden magnifying glass.

Can you remember the rulers that folded in half and you flipped them open to use the full 30cm? What about the Oxford maths tins? My husband still has his. I find it interesting how we remember the stationary we used in our school days, how a simple pencil or pen can bring back so many wonderful memories.

A few weeks ago now my daughter and I headed over to Maped Helix headquarters. I must admit to feeling very giddy when I arrived and in slight awe at all the products around me. There was everything you can think of, stationary heaven. My daughter was made to feel at home and given some colouring pencils. They were so easy to use and coloured so smoothly.

Maped Helix showed us the latest products, pencil sharpeners that moved, erasers that spin and pop out felt tips where you can never loose the lid. My daughter loved these and her personal favourite was some scissors. These scissors are fantastic, they cut through paper allowing you to do craft activities but they do not cut through clothes, hair, skin or electric cables making them great for a 2 year old to use.

Something really stayed with me after the event and that is handwriting. It occurred to me that we rarely send handwritten notes anymore and that in some countries handwriting is no longer part of school education. I find this upsetting as handwriting is such an important skill. It also helps with other areas of development. During this National stationary week 27 April - 3 May I think it would be really amazing to promote handwriting. I would love to get a group together and us each send a hand written note to one other member in the group, be it a card, post card or something similar. It would be lovely to receive a little note from someone, what do you think?

The past 4 weeks have been incredibly busy and whilst I have still managed to take a photo a day, I have not had chance to blog.  So rather than blog 5 weeks worth of photos, here is an update of the past 4 weeks and my favourite photo/s from each week

Week 42

light and shadows

Another week spent away working.  A rather busy and tiring week again, its hard to be away from the girls.  The photo this week took me by surprise.  It is simply the shadows on the wall from my hotel room.  I think they look like rockets.  They were a very vivid purple colour but my phone could not pick up the detail.

Week 43

ladybirdsZombie run

Yet more working away from home.  This week was a rather interesting week,  It saw me finish my training, which means I am away a lot less.  I completed the Zombie Run, and yes I am still here to tell the tale.  The girls and I made most of the mild Autumn weather this week and even spotted our first lady birds of the year.

Week 44

Blackpool illuminationspainting

cute beewrinkle feet

Halloween lights

It was really lovely coming home from work and getting to spend some time with the girls this week.  The girls enjoyed some time painting, and creating Halloween decorations.  Which I really loved.  We took them to see Blackpool illuminations and I have to say I was rather disappointed with them this year.  My favourite pictures this week though are of my youngest dressed up as a bee for Halloween.  Also the picture I took of her after the bath when she discovered wrinkles on her feet.  She kept touching the wrinkle lines, I thought it was very cute.

Week 45

sleep at lasthook a duck

fireworks

My eldest loved her first duck from the hook a duck stand.  We took both girls to a bonfire and fireworks display but unfortunately it got too late and cold for my youngest.  It has been a week of sleepless nights, for whatever reason my youngest does not want to sleep at the moment.  Unless its when I am trying to get her up and ready as I have to go to work.  The girls really enjoyed the fireworks at their Grandparents house and my eldest keeps asking for them.

Week 46

silly faces

Not sure why but my eldest wanted to spend her evening making faces on the glass door.  Rather funny but also unprompted.

paper statues

We went to a Christmas Craft show and the girls loved the paper models.  Yes these are made out of paper [not my girls].  The girls really loved the show and enjoyed looking at all the different crafts.  Although I did have to stop my youngest trying to eat all the cakes, they were amazing.

lots of sweets

You know you are going to be having a good day when a parcel you are not expecting turns up and this is the contents!

Hotel upgrade

Another day away for work.  Although when you arrive and told you have a free upgrade to this room its not too bad.

hotel view

I love the view from the hotel, I could stand and watch all day.

Big girl

My youngest is growing up far too quickly now.  She loves to use a normal cup and it just makes me realise how big she is.
Eating dinner

This photo made me smile, its the moment my youngest worked decided to get all the food out of the bib so she could finish eating all her dinner, and yes the fork went in too!
