This day I love.......

The rain came pouring down and we could not go outside to play.  The girls did not want  to go out and play, they wanted something fun to do.  Something a little different.  What they really wanted was Cat in the Hat to inject some fun, so we injected our own.

We took our white Cardboard playhouse from cardboard toys, our blank canvas and let imaginations go wild.  The girls were given paint, leaves, stencils and the craft box, the rest was up to their imagination.

The girls began by holding a planning meeting inside their house.  They decided what to do and what they would need.  Spotty dog decided to keep guard.

The girls began by decorating the inside of the house.  They drew lights on the ceiling, a kitchen and bathroom and of course all the other essentials bedroom and their toys.  The dogs watched on with interest.

After they had finished decorating the inside they played inside the house and admired their work.

Spotty dog seemed very impressed with the interior.

I was incredibly impressed with what they had drawn, my favourite parts are the lights on the ceiling and the cat in the Hat made an appearance too!

With the inside complete it was now time to start working on the outside.  They cut, stuck, glued, painted and created.  Busy chatting away and making things.  Using objects to dip in paint and act as stencils.  Discovering shapes and patterns, mixing colours to make new colours

Day 1 was drawing to a close, they had worked really hard on their house all day but it was now time for bed.

They made smoke clouds for the chimney, a bird in a nest to sit on the roof [Mummy had to help stick him on the roof] and a flag.  What house doesn't have a flag!

They stuck solar panels on the front of their house and trees down the side

Even making some pipe cleaner snails for the front of the house.

It was still raining on Sunday so the girls began painting again.  Finishing off their hard work they had started the day before.  Stamping butterflies, bees and ladybirds on the sides near their trees.

Using their hands they created roof tiles on the side of without solar panels.  By the sides of the door they created some red flowers.  There was one final task and that was to paint the doors.

After two days of hard work the girls wrote 'Our House' above the doors and had created their dream home.  It had everything that their imaginations could think of from flowers, birds and creativity.

A wonderful way to spend a rainy weekend and the girls have a dream house they can play with for many more adventures.

This day I love Rainy day house building

The summer holidays have begun and with it the challenge of entertaining the girls.  Money is tight at the moment and so I am looking at low cost ways to keep them entertained.  Staying at home every day simply is not an option as they would get fed up.  I decided to make the most of the weather and of our RSPB membership and head out for the day.  We headed to our local RSPB site Old Moor.

The girls love the freedom that Old Moor offers and the variety of wildlife.  The free pond dipping activity had the girls very excited

skipping with joy

There are several ponds at Old Moor for pond dipping and we went past the first two as they had a few other children pond dipping and instead opted for one of the quieter ponds.  The girls took it in turns to dip and were eager to catch some fish.  Unfortunately for us all we caught were water boat men.

After catching all the water boat men in the ponds it was time for exploring Old Moor.  We found some lovely games to play including Leap frog and Hopscotch.

We had a lot of fun pond dipping and exploring.  It was great to be outdoors and exploring nature

This day I love hop, skip and dip

Almost a year ago we had a look at the weekend box. You can read our full review here.

A year later we were sent another box to have a look at. The girls a little older, would they enjoy it as much?

 opening our weekend box

The concept to the box is still the same, something to cook, make, explore and green. Our box had an Aztec theme to it and it was great for the girls to learn about the Aztec.

Our something to cook was hot chocolate, this is a firm favourite of the girls and went down very well given the cold weather we have had recently. We added marshmallows into ours, they are a favourite of the girls and a real treat.

We go to explore and learn more about the Aztecs inside the box, with mosaics to make and build our own stamps. The girls loved making the stamps and dipping them in the paint to create stamp pictures. Their favourite activity was making the Aztec birds.

creating mosaic

We were provided with powder paint in our box and everything we needed to make our birds, except from a card board tube. I could have rolled the box itself to form a tube but decided to just use a cardboard tube. The girls loved painting and sticking and soon made some great looking Aztec birds.

The great thing about the weekend box is that it provides you with ideas and things to do with the kids. Especially on those afternoons after school or those rainy days. The girls love to get the weekend box out whilst I'm cooking dinner too, it's safe to say that even a year on they weekend box is a huge hit.

You can even get a Weekend box free using the code LEYLA130.  Only 1 code can be used per household.

We were sent a Weekend box to review, all words are my own personal opinion

Saturday morning I took the girls shopping.  I am looking for a new rug for our front room and had heard of a new store opening in Sheffield.  Nest.co.uk had put on an open day to mark their store opening and had lots of activities on for children.  I thought it would be nice for the girls to get creative whilst I did some shopping.

Eldest colouring

The girls got stuck in with the colouring whilst I took a good look around the store.

I found loads of lovely items for our home and even a few rugs I liked.  The girls however found a sofa that they thought was very comfy

It was really lovely that the girls had some fun activities to do whilst I could look round the store, especially when rug shopping.

This day I love getting creative.

Eureka! Is such a wonderful place for children to explore.  We have been a few times as a family as it is on our doorstep and so when the invitation came from Little Live pets to attend their takeover we jumped at the chance.

Little Live pets had set up an area in Eureka where they had glass decoration painting

Colouring and even face painting

It was then time for us to have a play with the Little Live Pets

My eldest was really taken with the butterfly which fluttered its wings in her hand before been placed back on its flower [to charge back up].  My eldest loved the bird which sings when you stroke it and has a play back/record function too.

Little Live Pets are set to be one of the Must have toys for Christmas and I can see why.  Starting at £9.99 they are a great gift.  It is also possible to purchase additional items, such as a birdcage for the birds.  The birds are my personal favourite as the singing is rather uplifting.

The Little Live Pets area was always really popular with children wanting to play with the birds and the butterflies.  After a lovely lunch we decided to explore Eureka.

Eureka is the national children's museum and it is clear to see why.  Children are free to explore and touch and interact with the museum and all that is in it.  My girls loved learning and exploring and their favourite area was when they got to be midwives and play with the babies.

They got to shop and drive cars

Climb inside giant teeth and a giant nose

Even climb the walls

I love this idea so much I am trying to work out how I can re create it at home.

The girls had so much fun.  It was lovely watching them learn through play and explore everything around them.  I can see Little Live pets featuring on both girls Christmas wish list.

This day I love Eureka! Little Live pets.

Little Live pets provided us with entry to Eureka and lunch.  All words and opinions are my own.
