This day I love.......

Before Little Man arrived I loved running and walking.  I enjoyed the freedom and space to think, as well as exploring and discovering new places.  I want to continue my love for exploring and discovering new places with Little Man, which means we need a pushchair to match.

Over the next few months we are putting the Britax Bob Revolution Pro through its paces.  The Revolution pro sounds perfect for our families needs.  As standard it is suitable for ages 6 months and over, however you are able to purchase the carry cot separately to make it suitable from birth.  If using the Cary cot you also need to buy the infant carry adaptor to enable the carry cot to be attached to the pushchair.

We have decided to do a series of posts and video on the Britax BOB revolution pro.  This first post will give an overview of the Revolution pro and its use with the carry cot.  A video will follow shortly which will detail how to fold and the BOB in use and then finally another post detailing how we are finding BOB for running.

The BOB revolution pro requires some assembly, the wheels need fastening which although simple to do is actually quite hard to ensure a secure grip.  Once assembled the brakes need testing to ensure a correct fit and air needs to be put into the tyres.

The BOB has a two stage fold, first folding the top half down before finally folding in half.  You do need to remove the carry cot first before folding, and if you wanted to make it more compact you could also remove the wheels.

The wheels on BOB are a good size and are air filled.  They can be filled with air as needed and are capable of tackling the toughest terrain, even sand,

For a large pushchair the BOB handles really well, the journey is smooth and the handling is light weight.  I am often surprised at how easy the BOB moves, as if gliding over the bumpy ground.

The BOB features two brakes, the first a foot brake is operated by lifting and lowering the bar.  As it is a solid bar it is easy to access as any point.

The second is a hand brake which is really handy if walking and I also imagine running, as it does stop the pushchair very quickly.  It is operated by squeezing the lever and works like a bike brake to stop the pushchair.

The wheels can also be removed by pulling forward the silver lever.

The carry cot adaptor is attached to the main frame of the BOB and can be detached by pressing the red button.  It simply slots into place and a click can be heard to say it is correctly positioned.  The bar can be left in place when folding.  The carry cot is then clicked on to this bar and sits over the main seat of the revolution pro.

Little man has lots of space inside the carry cot.  The hood is also a great size and provides lots of shade.  The carry cot comes with a rain cover.

Little man does like to kick the carry cot cover off.  The cover is attached at various points with velcro.

There is plenty of storage on BOB.  The basket is of a decent size, and we even put a few items on the seat as the carry cot is sat just on top, it allowed a small gap for storage.  There is also a gap by the base of the carry cot and the back of the seat, which is where I stored the rain cover.

The front wheel has two modes, sport or city and there is also a wrist strap on the handle bar

The Britax BOB revolution pro is perfect for exploring and for walks in the countryside.  It handles all terrains with ease, even sticky mud.

Grandma also loves pushing the revolution pro and finds it very lightweight to push.

The biggest fan thought is Little man who finds it so comfortable he falls asleep.

The Britax BOB revolution pro has given us the ability to explore as a family and enabled us to continue our love for the outdoors.  Little man is very happy in the carry cot and I am excited to try the revolution pro with the seat in a few months time and take Little man with my on a run!

All words are my own opinion. Thanks to Britax for sending the BOB revolution pro to review.

OK, so I am not one to go on about the weather but I am really getting fed up of this rain now.  I am wanting to finish BIG, so close, and am wanting to go out and play with the girls.  In the breaks between the rain we did manage to get a little done on our BIG project.

We finished the repair works on our play frame and my Dad came to help.  We unfortunately could not save the ladder, it was too badly rotten and lots of the rungs had cracked.  Big game hunters came to our rescue and sent us a new wooden ladder.

new wooden ladder

We had to get it a little wider than the previous ladder in order to give the correct height.  The wood used is of great quality.  The ladder feels really well built and is smooth, so there was no need to sand.  We plan on painting the ladder with the rest of the climbing frame, but the rain did not hold off long enough.  Both girls could not wait to try out the new ladder.  My eldest was a bit wary at first but she scaled it with ease.  My youngest can manage the first few but then wants picking up.  Better than she does with other ladders.

We were also sent the TP activity pack to add to the climbing frame.  The activity pack contains a chalk board, a phone and a telescope.  The idea was to replace the chalk board at the top of the ladder, but my eldest did not want to, as she likes the clock.  So instead we put the chalk board inside the play house for her, and she spent most of the morning chalking.

The chalk board was a huge success and great to spend some time outdoors, even when it was raining.  The rain cleared and my eldest wanted to play pirates.  She scaled the ladders to board her ship and began her look out through her telescope.  She spied treasure.

Quick, she needed to make a telephone call to call her sister.  Her sister answered and off they went to dig up the treasure.

Whilst the girls were off hunting for treasure, my Dad was busy with the new swing, to replace the worn out tyre swing.  The girls are too little to make use of the tyre swing, so I wanted something they could make use of and something which would be fun and last some time.  I came across a Horse swing made out of recycled tyres, at Great Little Trading Co.   With my eldest really loving horses I thought this would be ideal for her.

My Dad made a beam for the swing and set about putting the tyre up.  The swing itself comes fully assembled but it still needs putting into the right height.

Dad fixing swing

One of the main ideas behind BIG is to make new of something old.  The horse tyre swing fits in perfectly with this.  It is made from a recycled tyre, and carefully moulded into the shape of a horse.  My eldest fell in love with it the second it was up.  She was so happy to play on her horse, I think they are going to be friends for life.

Unfortunately this happened

and kept happening.  The only thing we have left to do now with project BIG, is paint the climbing frame.  As soon as the weather eases, we shall paint the climbing frame.  I cannot wait to show you the images when it is all complete and finally reveal what BIG is about.

Not to be deterred by the bad weather, I wrapped up the girls and BOB, and we headed out

BOB ready to go

We met my Mum at the park, and unsurprisingly it was empty.  My eldest loved having free run to explore the park.  She loved running around and playing on the slide.  My youngest slept the whole time.

Of course it was soon time to head home but my eldest did not seem to mind too much as she wanted to get home to her horse.

Happy on her horse

My eldest really wants the rain to go away so she can play outside on her horse, and I really want the rain to go away so we can play outside and paint our climbing frame.

The weather this past week has been terrible.  Any spare moment I have had it has rained.  Any opportunity to get outdoors has been taken, quickly.

The rain held off today, although it was cloudy and cold this morning.  I started off the day with a jumper on I was that cold.  One of the things I love about where we live is that there is a lot to do with the girls.  A favourite of my eldest is Kirklees Light Rail..  She really adores trains, so with a break in the weather we headed out.

The girls got very excited as we sat on the train

on the train

My youngest wanted to wave at everyone as we went past.

At the end of the track is a lovely play area, which the girls love.  Last time we came it was Easter and my eldest asked where the Easter bunny was as he meet her at the Play area when we got off the train.  I had to tell her he had gone home but would be back at Easter.  The girls loved playing in the sand and built lots of sandcastles.

The only thing that stopped them playing was the sound of the whistle from the train as it came into the station.  This got my youngest attention every time.  I think she looks very grown up here.

The girls wanted to drive their own train, especially because they had been watching them come and go from the station.

Their train finally arrived at their chosen destination, the slide!  My youngest would climb up the slide and then turn round and sit to go down, whilst my eldest used the more traditional stairs.

The next train arrived so we got on board and headed back home, the girls of course waving to all who went past.

Watching the train go past

After playing with her bike in the garden my eldest then declared she wanted to ride her bike to feed the ducks.  This left me in a bit of a situation, as pushing my eldest on a bike, walking a dog and then what do I do with my youngest? I thought I would be brave and give it a go.  Normally I would use BOB, and there is therefore no issue, but with my eldest in her 'I want my bike' mood BOB had to stay at home.

I left BOB at home and ventured out.  Now what I did not mention in previous posts is I have a Kiddy Adventure Pack, Kiddy very kindly sent me one to review [a review will follow soon] and to help me with my training for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.  I would use this in training when I could not use BOB or if I only had one child.  The only thing was I was always on my own so never really got the chance to take pictures.  I also would not have a bike or a dog with me, I figured that using my Kiddy adventure pack was going to be the only solution.

My eldest was so happy that she got to ride [by ride I mean I pushed her] to feed the ducks.  She jumped off her bike got out the bread from the bag we had tied to the front and she fed the ducks.

feeding the ducks

After feeding the ducks we continued to walk around the lake, with J standing always beside my eldest, I think in protection mode.  My eldest was ever so happy to be on her bike.

me and my dog

My youngest loves the Kiddy Adventure Pack because she is so high up and she can see everything.  I got fingers pointing and her saying words, even quack quack quack as we walked past the ducks.

view from up high

I am glad I found a solution and took the girls out as they both really enjoyed themselves.  My favourite part of today though happened this morning at breakfast.  My youngest who is very nearly 15 months, said 'Chocolate' and pointed at the chocolate, not believing what I had heard said to her ' Did you say chocolate' she replied with 'Mummy, more Chocolate'  I said to her ' Do you want chocolate' she looked at me nodded and said 'Yeah'.  I love that she is putting words together to make sentences.

This day I love trains, bikes and chocolate.

I picked the girls up from nursery and my eldest promptly declared that we had to go to the farm.  I could not say no, with the beautiful weather and it not yet school holidays I thought it would be a lovely way to spend the evening with the girls.

The farm had a 1 day old calf, which was still wobbly on the legs and very cute.

Many of the animals were lying down with the heat, a friendly cow stopped to take a look at BOB.

The girls had a lot of fun running around the play ground.  It was very quiet without anyone else in the park, the girls had their own private playground to explore.

After all the running around the best place to cool down was in the indoor small animal shelter.  There were lots of signs to say pregnant sows, all lying down to keep cool.

On the way out of the farm I bought the girls an ice cream each.  By the time we got to the car there was still some left so I strapped them in and set off.  I had to drive over quite a few speed bumps and every time I did my eldest would shout, 'stop it Mummy, be careful I am freezing'.  What I forgot was that she was eating her ice cream, yes silly Mummy.  Every time I went over a bump she placed the ice cream on her face and eventually the ice cream came off.  Its a good job the car seat covers are washable!

When we got home and stopped the car, she looked at me smiled and said 'again Mummy' when I asked what she wanted to do again, thinking I would get the answer the farm, the answer was 'those bumps Mummy'.

This day I love speed bumps
