This day I love.......

Back in 2012 I visited Stockeld Park for the very first time. My eldest daughter was 2 years old, my youngest in a pushchair and Little Man hadn't been born. In fact it became one of the very first blog posts I wrote, and since then we have returned several times.

Even though we have visited in the past Stockeld park never looses its charm or its appeal. Every time we visit there seems to be something new to see or do, as well as our favourites. Our adventures started with the maze. You would think completing it previously we would know the way but we still end up lost!

The girls wanted to explore every aspect of the maze as they were looking for the buckets and spades hidden inside. I won't say how many we did find, there is a strong chance we counted some more than once! There is plenty to see and do inside the maze as well so it keeps even the smallest of children entertained.

Last time we visited Little Man was a baby and so didn't do many of the activities, this time however he was into everything. The magic of Stockeld park seemed to take over.

There are more play areas in the Enchanted forest from our previous visits and the girls seemed to love these just as much as Little Man. As we walked around the forest looking at the interactive elements we would stop at each play area for the children to run around. I think their favourite was the animal themed one and it was here we also stopped for our picnic.

Little Man spent most of his time digging in the sand. He loves digging and loves rocks, he was in his element. When the heat got too much, he would go and play with the sand in the shade before coming back out again. Running around through the sand with a big grin on his face. His sisters happily playing on the wooden play structures.

Little Man seemed to enjoy his ice cream as we took it easy on one of the swings, before continuing around the Enchanted forest again

Given it was the school summer holidays I was really surprised at how quiet the park felt. Yes there were other people around but it never felt busy. My children never seemed rushed to hurry up on any of the attractions and we could walk around at our own leisurely pace.

We had left the inflatable and outdoor play area for last. It had been a very hot day and had opted to use the shade of the Enchanted forest over lunch in a hope that the areas in full sun would be cooler by the late afternoon. It appeared to have worked and we enjoyed the outdoor play area in the cooler afternoon sun.

The outdoor bouncing pillow was even cool enough to have some fun on. This was a firm favourite of all 3 of my children!

We arrived at opening time and left at closing, one of the last cars out of the car park. The day had gone by really quickly but we had done everything at out own pace. Never once rushing or feeling under pressure. It was a beautiful day in the sunshine and I drove home with three happy children who had had a magical day full of adventure.

This day I love a Summer adventure

Stockeld park invited us to visit, however all words are my own opinion.

Last weekend we had a very early start, but we had a very important task to do.  Our mission was to take place at Dalby trust, which is part of the Forestry commission, and our goal was to spot the Gruffalo.

The girls were armed with their scooters, ready to follow clues and see if they could spot the Gruffalo.

Prior to leaving I had downloaded a free app to help us with our Gruffalo spotting.  As we walked around the trail we had to look for footprints in the wood, as we held the app over the footprints magic would happen.

Out of nowhere the creature, whose footprints we had found, would start to appear.  The girls would watch in amazement as the animals came to life on my phone via the app, but in reality there was only their footprints in the wood.

The app allows you to take photos directly from within, so you can get your children to pose either side of the characters.  This did involve lots of instructions shouting across to my two to try and get a picture!

We had 2 creatures which had gone shy and simply would not come out to play on my phone, and a Gruffalo who was very tired and refused to stand up but non of this seemed to detract from the fun both girls were having.

As we found each of the creatures in the deep, dark wood we were given a little fact card about them and even an activity to do to be just like our found creature.

This was a nice little touch as the activity was a great way to encourage more imaginative play when out in the woods.  It also got the girls to think about each animal and how they would behave.  Once we had completed our walk around the deep dark wood, and found the Gruffalo we were awarded with an Astounding certificate!

I can see in the future this technology could be used to bring to life fairies, or other magical creatures within the woods.  Personally, getting out and about in the woods and spending all day exploring is a way to spend time as a family and to put away technology.  However given that the majority of us at some point then get out our phones to take photos whilst we are out exploring, sees this as no different to getting the phone out to make a character come to life.  Encouraging families to spend time together and explore the outside, can only be a good thing.  Plus it helps to create wonderful memories such as these

This day I love Gruffalo Spotting

With school finished for Christmas a treat was in order.  Wrapping up warm we headed over to Brodsworth Hall for some festive fun and a late night treat.  Last year the girls sat and watched Father Christmas read them stories and this year they were doing the same, only with some added extras.

The main hall at Brodsworth is currently undergoing renovations, so tales with Father Christmas could not take place here.  Instead we went on a wonderful enchanted walk around the gardens.  The gardens and hall lit up in the dark with a wide variety of colours.

Disco lights hung from trees creating sparkles across the woodland floor.

Beams of light shone through the tall, dark trees.

We walked through different colours of light, listening to the different festive sounds as we passed until in front of us was a giant igloo.  We walked inside and took a seat, eager to see who or what would appear.  Then with a jingle of bells and a 'Ho, Ho, Ho' Father Christmas entered and sat down to tell us all a story.

The girls all sat captivated by the tale from Father Christmas.  They were told a wonderful story, one I had not heard before and once it had finished they even got to meet him.

The girls left the giant igloo in the gardens with huge smiles on their faces.  Each asked to go and visit Father Christmas again.  As much as I would have loved to go back and see Father Christmas again it was starting to get late, so instead we had a Hot chocolate before heading back home.

A wonderful treat and a great way to start the school holidays!

This day I love an evening treat

Brodsworth Hall invited us to attend.  All words are my own opinion.

Having had a very full on week which involved travelling to and from London 3 times and my total hours of sleep less than the number of days in the week I really wanted a lie in this Sunday.  Unfortunately it was not to be, as I have kids with a love for the outdoors and exploring and so before most people had even opened their eyes we were out exploring the local park.

The crisp November air had a lovely fresh feel to it in the early hours and it was a great way to blow away the cobwebs and start a Sunday morning.  The girls wrapped up warm in their coats from JoJo Maman Bébé.

Having two children in the same sized clothes can often be expensive as there are no hand me downs to be had.  Their love to play outside and explore means I also need to buy clothes that can withstand mud and multiple washes, our washing machine is never off, and keep the girls warm as they explore and go on their adventures.  JoJo Maman Bébé have thought of this with their multi buy offer.  Buying clothes for the girls has never been easier.

The coats the girls are wearing also came in other colours and patterns, and are fleece lined.  They are also reversible and so will last through all seasons, except perhaps summer.  The girls love the chunky easy to use zips and my youngest is asking me to buy her some gloves to attach to the glove hooks inside the sleeves.  They have certainly kept both girls warm through fireworks and through our morning stroll.

The girls loved running through the leaves and jumping over the piles of leaves that had been created.  Although Little Man was in his pushchair he was beginning to get grumpy so we headed home.  We completed homework and reading and then settled down to complete a jigsaw.

The girls decided to complete their new Ravensburger puzzle, Woodland Friends.  The giant pieces were easy to assemble and a great size for both girls to handle.  Little Man was very interested in the jigsaw and kept crawling over to take a look.  It was perhaps the bright, colourful pictures that were drawing in his attention but he was very interested in the jigsaw.

Woodland friends kept the girls [and Little Man] busy for a good hour.  The assembly was quick and simple but it was the discussion afterwards that followed.  The girls asking if we had the birds in our trees that live in the garden.  Asking the names of each bird, which I could answer as there is a handy guide included and asking if we could try and spot them in our garden too.

We spotted the birds on the jigsaw and then headed into the garden to see if we could spot any birds.  It was really interesting and a great way to discuss the birds leaving for the winter months.  Although only afternoon it had begun getting dark and due to the lack of birds we decided to head back inside for a snack before dinner.

I may not have got my Sunday lie in but I did get to spend lots of time with my little people.

This day I love Sunday Antics!

Jigsaw and coats were sent in exchange for this post, all words are my own opinion.

With the sun shining on a bank holiday Monday we wanted to make the most of our family time and headed of to explore. Our criteria was simple, a place for a picnic, great views, a nice easy walk and not too far away. Living in Yorkshire this was easily achieved.

We are very lucky that Yorkshire water are one of the biggest land owners and that their land is accessible for the public to use. After a twenty minute journey we arrived at Winscar reservoir and had no problems finding some where to park, even on the glorious bank holiday. Parking was free which was another bonus.

Little man decide to have a nap whilst we walked round the reservoir looking for a picnic spot. The walk was calm and peaceful as we listened to the waves on the water. The views breathtaking.

There was a slight wind but the views more than made up for this. The girls perplexed as to why people seemed so small.

After an easy walk we stopped for our picnic by the shores of the reservoir. The girls silent and watching the water, the ducks and general goings on of the reservoir edge. Simply taking it all in.

It is not often we get to spend time together as a five and it was the perfect bank holiday doing soon.

As our picnic drew to an end, we dusted off the crumbs from the picnic blanket and begin a slow walk back round the reservoir edge. The sun setting made for an amazing sight across the water.

The reservoir was incredibly peaceful and it is hard to believe that it is so close to our house. The girls enjoyed exploring somewhere new and having a picnic with me and their daddy. A perfect bank holiday.

As we drove home I thought to myself that I will be coming back here to walk the dogs and to go for a run, it was a truly wonderful place to explore and discover.

This day I love Exploring the land

One of our favourite things to do as a family is to explore new places.  This can be as luxurious as travelling on a place to far away places, to as simple as a walk or drive in the car.  I feel incredibly lucky to be based in Yorkshire as there are so many wonderful places to explore and discover close by.  One such place is Scampston Hall, based near York it is an hour and 20 minutes drive away and was an incredible find.

Greeted with bright blue skies, warm sunshine and only a hint of wispy white clouds we felt as if we had travelled abroad.  Scampston Estate encompasses walled gardens, the Hall and trails.  The Hall was closed as they were preparing for a wedding, so we explored the walled gardens and hall grounds.

The girls armed with an explorer pack put their binoculars to good use as they found a vantage point looking over the grounds.

The walled gardens are divided into separate rooms, each one equally beautiful in its own right.

The girls explored and enjoyed their freedom to be children.  Practising their cartwheels and other gymnastic skills.

Giving children the freedom to explore and play is such a vital part of their development, and it was a real pleasure that Scampston allowed the girls to do this and in such beautiful surroundings.

Likewise it is equally important to allow children to reflect and have space for themselves.

The silent garden was one such place that the girls took a moment to simply admire their surroundings.

Around the Mount they practised their fairy steps, counting 134.

Little man was feeling under the weather and already on his third change of clothes before lunch, simply wanted to be cuddled and drink his milk in the shade with his Grandma.

Once we had explored the walled gardens we stopped at the Cafe for some lunch before heading out on one of the many trails around the grounds of the hall.  My youngest daughter wanted to lead the way and armed with a map she took us on her own journey of exploration.

Not knowing her left from her right, we might have took a few wrong turns but it was all part of the fun and the adventure.

Eventually we ended up back in the grounds of the Hall itself.

We stumbled across a play area with wooden balance beam, stepping stone logs and a rowing boat.  The perfect place to spend some time after our adventure around the grounds.

As we approached the Hall we began to see the preparations for the wedding which was taking place the following day, and as we stood with the Hall behind us to admire the view you could clearly see why Scampston would make a fantastic wedding venue.

As the sun began to set, there was just enough time to play in front of the Hall itself before heading back to the car for the journey home.

Thank you Scampston Estate for inviting us to visit, we had a fabulous day out.

This day I love a day out at Scampston Hall
