This day I love.......

When I started this blog four years ago it was my way of combating postnatal depression. I started to look for a positive in each day and began to capture them. My positive could have been anything from managing to get myself and the girls ready before lunch or simply that we got out the house, whatever it was it was something to focus on and helped me to overcome postnatal depression. The blog then began to expand and became a way for me to capture my precious Mummy moments, an online journal of my days with my children. I try to keep it this way and try to create as many memories for my children as I can.

Capturing my positive moments has expanded recently onto Instagram, and staying with the same theme as the blog I now use the hashtag #capturemypositive. This is to capture that moment you want to remember, or the positive from each day. Try to turn a negative into a positive. There are some great bloggers and non-bloggers who have started to use the hashtag too with some amazing photos and it's a great way to cheer you up on a bad day. At the end of the week I pick one photo to share from all those shared as my weekly featured image and would love you to join in.

This blog has also opened up a world of possibilities for my children and I am grateful for each and everyone. Most recently a wonderful opportunity from Petplan Equine horse insurance landed in my email inbox. My youngest daughter really wants a unicorn, however trying to explain that this is impossible to a four year old is rather tricky. She spends ages drawing unicorns, pretending to be a unicorn and generally asking for a unicorn.

Petplan Equine horse insurance wanted to make my youngest daughters dream come true. In order to do so they needed to know exactly what kind of unicorn she would like, and what it would look like. She drew the following:

It is sparkly but does not show well on the picture. The blue circles are buttons and there are wings, rainbow hair and a unicorn horn. The yellow things are its legs and feet. I think everything a unicorn should have she has covered. I sent the picture to Petplan.

A few weeks later and her unicorn arrived. Every detail my daughter drew has been captured, giving her her dream unicorn. I am really excited for Christmas when she will see her unicorn.

‘This post has been possible thanks to Petplan Equine, but all thoughts are my own’.

The first month with Thing 3 is almost here and with it we have discovered some must have items.  These are things we probably would not have thought about buying or things that have made our lives a little easier this past month.

Perfect Prep - Tommee Tippee

I tried to breastfeed baby at birth but for whatever reason baby could not or would not take.  Instead when given a bottle they drank most of it.  The decision to formula feed was therefore made by baby and we are happy and comfortable with it.

Having never bottle fed before I was worried about making up feeds and how to do it, but the perfect prep machine from Tommee Tippee has taken all this away.  It is so quick and simple to use, that is has been an absolute life saver.

Simply keep the unit topped with cold water and press a button when you need a bottle making up.  The water is controlled so it comes out at the right temperature and the initial hot shot kills any bacteria that could be living in the powder.  It works with any bottle and any formula which is even better.  We even take the Perfect Prep upstairs at night for the night feeds.

Thing 3 has learnt the beeps that the machine makes when the milk is ready and starts to root looking for their bottle.  If you plan on using formula milk than you really need a Perfect Prep.

Shnuggle

The first time we bathed Thing 3 resulted in the following

I think Thing 3 felt exposed and got a little scared in the bath.  I think that's part of the problem with traditional baby baths, the baby gets a little lost in them.  I was struggling too, as the bath was too heavy for me to lift to empty.

The Shnuggle is amazing and a must have baby bath.  It is smaller than a traditional bath and when full has 2 litres of water, take care to fill to the max line.   There is a little bum bump inside to support baby and stop them slipping.  The back has an ergonomic shape and non slip foam colour back.

Thing 3 is much more relaxed in this bath and feels much more secure.  It makes bath time much more enjoyable and a fun experience.  I can also lift the bath afterwards to empty it.  I love that even at this newborn stage I only need one hand to support Thing 3 and that the Shnuggle will last them for 12 months.

We also have the stand for our shnuggle.  This means I can bath baby standing up and is perfect for those times when my back really hurts.  The stand also is a great place to store the shnuggle when not in use.

Ewan the dream sheep

We have written lots of post about Ewan.  We bought my eldest one before she was born, and another for my youngest.  Baby now has my eldest Ewan.  Ewan is a cuddly sheep who plays four different sounds and pink noise.  He is simply fantastic at calming babies and helping them to settle.  We would not be without Ewan and you can read more here.

Snugglebundl

I am a firm believer that car seats should stay in the car and that when a journey ends baby should be taken out of the car seat.  The Snugglebundl is a blanket which can be used to transport baby.  Thing 3 is wrapped in the blanket and transported to the car.  The harness goes over Thing 3 and the blanket over the harness.  When we arrive at our destination we can use the handles on the Snugglebundl to pick up Thing 3 without disturbing them.

The Snugglebundl has proved perfect for me.  As I tore my abdominal muscles during pregnancy lifting anything can be painful.  The Snugglebundl had made lifting thing 3 really easy and I can see how it would help someone who is recovering from a C section.

The Snugglebundl can also be used in the pushchair.  We had to attend a hospital appointment for Thing 3 and could not take the pushchair, rather than disturb thing 3 we simply lifted the Snugglebundl and carried them inside.  Thing 3 stayed lovely and warm even with the snow that was falling outside.

We absolutely love the Snugglebundl it makes transporting and moving a baby so much easier.

Some items in this post we have bought and others have been sent to us, however all words are my own personal opinion

When I was a little girl my Mum used to take me to see Disney On Ice.  I loved going with her and my sisters and would secretly wish that one day I could be the children picked to ride on the ice.  It never happened but the dream is still very much alive.

My Mum accompanied the girls and I to Disney On Ice Worlds Of Enchantment last night.  I was nervous as I knew something the girls did not.  They were about to live a dream of mine, they were about to become the children who travelled on the boat with the Disney characters.  I was excited and listened to the safety briefing and what the girls needed to do.

I then told them the important news, The Little Mermaid needed help in her dance and she was looking for 2 good girls to help her.  They were in shock!

We had a chat that they would be sat in a boat as my eldest pointed out she did not know how to skate and had no ice skating shoes.  They then got very excited and the show began.

Minnie, Mickey, Donald and Goofy took us on a magical adventure visiting the Disney worlds.  The Green Army men were present to look after all of Andy's toys.

The girls waited patiently, listening for the familiar sounds of the Little Mermaid.  Then they heard it, they got excited and took their places in the boat.

They were taken on a 4 minute magical journey over the ice.  They waved and smiled and just took everything in.  All the skaters around them, the bright colours and the music.  They were not phased at all,  I was so proud.  They came back from their magical adventure and had the biggest smiles on their faces.  Again Mummy, Again!  They loved it.

It was time for a short interval but the girls were just super excited and could not wait for the show to start again.  After the interval we were treated to a spectacular performance from Cars.  How they control the cars on the ice I shall never know, it was a real experience to be at the front and really gave you a different prospective on how cleverly choreographed everything has to be.

The girls had had the time of their lives and there could be only one way to finish.

What a truly magical evening.  I made a wish when I was little and whilst I did not get to go in the boat myself, my children did.  To see their faces, to see the experience they got to have and to see the magic unfold right in front of their eyes, is a million times a better wish than I could ever have dreamt of.  That happiness and that excitement will stay with me forever.  True Disney magic.

We cannot wait to see Disney On Ice again when it returns to Sheffield Arena next Autumn with another brand new ice-spectacular.

This day I love a dream is a wish your heart makes.

Our flock of Ewan's have been a little lonely recently. The girls are now aged 2 and 4 and since their birth they have had an Ewan. A they have gotten older they have become less reliant on Ewan's magical noise to calm them to sleep and the beautiful red glow is no longer needed. Ewan however is still a much loved member of our family. He gets played with by the girls and can often be found eating grass and giving cuddles.

Our flock of Ewan's seem to be loosing direction and needed a new leader. Russell arrived and has stepped up to the challenge. Russell, the sheep dog, gives great cuddles. The girls were smitten when they met him back in march and love him now he has arrived with us.

Russell has been very good at watching his flock of Ewan and also taking care of the girls.  Russell has a calming blue and green glow which provides great comfort to the girls at night.  You can also record 4 minutes of audio which plays 8 times on repeat [32 minutes in total] to add your own personal touch.  This gives you the option to record whatever you like to help your child to sleep.  With my daughter experiencing a fear of the dark at the moment, the calming light show with the combination of 2 sleep inducing colours has been proven to help the body release soothing and calming hormones thereby triggering sleep.  As the show last 30 mintues this should be enough to help my eldest daughter.

Russell certainly is brilliant at protecting our flock of Ewan and helping to protect the children against their bedtime fears.  Keeping them company and calming away their fears.  Russell is the perfect companion for toddlers and older children.  He really is top dog.

I was sent a Russell to review.  All words and opinions are my own

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?  Would you want relaxing white sands or high action packed holiday?  Perhaps the snow is more your thing?  Imagine being able to plan your perfect escape all in one place?  Amadeus allows you to do this.

Before I had my girls I was lucky enough to travel to the Maldives.  The perfect white sandy beaches, crystal blue waters and the pure escapism not to mention the perfect diving destination made the Maldives my dream destination.  I have been lucky enough to visit twice, once in June and the other December.

We were told that visiting in June would be rainy and not very good weather but actually we had better weather in June than December.  Amadeus.net is capable of helping plan the best time to travel or even when the weather is best.

dream destination

Amadeus.net is also incredibly good for planning the cheapest time to travel too.  Planning your dream vacation and within your desired budget.  Alternatively you can take a look at other users dream vacations which can help inspire your choices for yours.

Amadeus.net is really simple to use.  The layout is great and I feel very inspired to take a holiday.  Amadeus.net is not a transactional site, it is a planning site but I have grown a little addicted to looking at others plans and creating inspiration for my own.  If you are wanting some great insider information, ways to save some money on your holiday or even for some great inspirational ideas than Amadeus.net is definitely worth a visit.

The girls woke on Christmas eve rather giddy, with the excitement of Father Christmas coming.  I decided upon a treat for them for breakfast and as we had been sent some pancakes and Clarks Maple Syrup this seemed a fitting festive breakfast treat.  Quick and simple to do, my youngest helped me with the pancakes.

Clarks Maple SyrupPancakes for Breakfast

Whilst the Clarks Maple syrup added a lovely sweet taste to the pancakes I wanted to make them festive for the girls.  I used our snowman cookie cutter to cut out snowman shapes, then added the Clarks maple syrup on top.  This meant the chocolate drops for eyes and buttons would stick to the pancake and stay in place.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed their festive breakfast, which meant they had full tummies ready for a fun day ahead.

Eating breakfast

The girls and I spent the day playing and my eldest kept asking if it was time to make the reindeer food ready for Father Christmas.  After we had taken our dog for a walk, we came home to make our reindeer food.

adding glitterReindeer dust

The girls took some oats and rice and put them into a bowl.  They then added glitter, so the twinkle of the glitter in the moon light would guide the reindeer's to our house.  Well Father Christmas needs to spot our house from the sky.

mixing the reindeer dust

The girls gave the mixture a good mix before we went outside to sprinkle our Reindeer food.  It was raining and very windy so we came back in covered in glitter [my car is still rather sparkly] but the girls went to sleep happy and dreaming of the presents Father Christmas might bring them

Next morning when they awoke the girls were incredibly surprised and very excited.  Father Christmas had been!

The girls were so excited and very happy.   It was so lovely to watch the magic of Christmas unfold.

The girls were even more surprised when they found out that Father Christmas had left them presents at Grandma and Grandad house!

Grandma had cooked a lovely Christmas dinner and the girls both wore their Christmas hats with pride!

After dinner it was time to unwind and relax.  The girls played and had lots of fun.  Oh and ate lots of chocolate.

After a fun filled Christmas it was time to settle down, and dream wonderful dreams.
