This day I love.......

This beautiful wooden Pretend play Doctors set from Haba contains:

1 prescription block,
1 pencil,
1 spatula,
1 wooden syringe,
1 tube of ointment [wooden tube]
1 spoon,
1 thermometer,
bandages,
1 elastic bandage
1 Medicine Bottle

These are all stored in a beautiful metal tin

Dr Set

The only thing the set is missing really is a stethoscope.  Every item is well made and has great attention to detail.  The sizing of each item is also great for children, my eldest is 3.

Each wooden piece of the set has been carefully crafted and looks great, perfect for imaginative play.  My eldest loves imaginative play.  Most of her toys now have one of the red plasters on which comes in the kit to make them better.  She often wanders around writing prescriptions too, it is really lovely to watch her.

making a prescription

Its great watching her imagination at play as she gives her toys medicine from the little wooden spoon or takes their temperature.  The only real downside to this set, is that it is made from wood.  Whilst that might also be an advantage it does make the kit very difficult to clean.  My daughter will often put the little wooden medicine spoon in her mouth, then in her sisters mouth, then in my mouth, then in Grandmas as she makes us all better.  Whilst this imaginative play is great the wooden spoon cannot be easily cleaned to be germ free, as the wood will hold and retain from each person.

This would be my only downside with this Kit.  As other than this it is beautifully made and contains almost everything you need to play pretend Dr.

This Kit was sent to us as part of our Toadstool Toad Testers.  All opinions are my own.

This beautiful horse farm play set from Haba is great for both my girls, aged 3 and 1.  The sturdy box unfolds to reveal the horse stables and farm.  The lovely chunky wooden pieces are stored inside and can then be placed onto the farm.  The wooden pieces are beautifully coloured in with some wonderful characters.

The horse farm play set can be used in a variety of ways.  My eldest loves to play role play with them and her imagination really runs wild.  My youngest loves to look at the different pieces and we talk about the different animals and shapes.  We look at the colours and make horse and clip clop noises.  She also loves to post the pieces back into the top of the box, a little like a shape sorter.  Its great how the horse farm play set can be used by both girls in such different ways.

The Haba Horse Farm play set has become a firm favourite with both girls and they really love playing with it.  I love how everything can be stored together and the only set up required is to unfold the lid of the box!  The Haba Horse farm play set is available on the Toadstool.

I am always on the look out for good board games to play with the girls.  The toadstool recently sent us Little Orchard by Haba to review.  My daughter was very eager to play.

Haba game little orchard

The game is suitable from 3 - 8 years and for 1 - 4 players   My eldest daughter at 3 years old would happily sit and play this game by herself.  My 16 month old definitely would not get the concept of the game and so I think age level is perhaps pitched right.

The aim of the game is to collect the cherries from the trees before the crow eats them all.  Players roll a dice and then match the picture on the dice to a card, which is turned over to reveal the next action.  A cherry indicates to take a cherry from the tree, a crow means the crow moves one step closer to the cherries and a sleeping animal means nothing happens.

My 3 year old understood the game straight away and often asks to play.  She can set up the game with ease and is more than happy to play by herself or with others.  I like how the game is stored neatly inside the box and the fact the box is small enough to be carried by a 3 year old.  The colours are all lovely and bright and the images are really attractive to younger children.

Little Orchard encourages children to think, as they have decide what action to take based on the card.  Look at colour and shape recognition.  It also can encourage team work and taking turns.  This is a really lovely game to play.

As a family we love plus plus.  You can read my review here.  We now have the neon 600 and normal 600, mini pieces along with the 250 piece.  We have bought them as gift for friends and they make excellent presents.  I love playing with the pieces and randomly constructing things.  I find it really therapeutic after a long day at work and a great stress reliever.

Both my girls, 3 years and the other 15 months, love plus plus.  My eldest likes to build things, especially jewelry and my youngest likes to look at the colours and take them in and out of the box.  Plus Plus really is great for the whole family.

To unwind after the amazing day we had had for my daughters birthday we got out the plus plus.  I was asked to build her a Monster, from Monsters University.  Here is my creation

We recently reviewed plus plus for the toadstool.  The girls and I loved it so much that I had to order us some more.  There is a challenge over on the toadstool at the moment to build a robot from Plus Plus, well the girls and I had to have a go.

plus plus robot

So here is our robot, well actually batbot.  He has a bat logo on his chest for special bat like powers.  Big ears to hear like a bat and special sonar from his one eye.  His bright colours are to make sure he can be seen at night.

The girls and I love batbot and he sits by the window to keep watch.

Our second product to review from the toadstool, is plus plus.  This was a little different from usual as I had purchased plus plus for my daughters.

My daughters are aged 2 and half years and 1 years old and both could not wait to begin

plus plus

They opened the box and began straight away playing

Neither seemed to need instructions they just worked out how to slide the pieces together.  My youngest preferred emptying the box and putting the pieces back in again.

My daughter soon got to work with plus plus and made herself a pretty flower

Followed by a wonderful bracelet and crown

The girls absolutely love playing with plus plus, so much so that I have ordered another box from the toadstool.  I think they are really well priced starting at £5 for 100 pieces up to £19.50 for 600.  I love the bright colours.  My daughter had great fun separating them all out into the colours and telling her younger sister what the colours are.  I find them a great way to have creative play as the possibilities of what you can build are endless, both 2D and 3D.  I also find them an excellent stress reliever and love to build things with them after a hard day at work to clear my mind and help me relax.

I think I shall leave you with one final image which sums up our Plus Plus experience:
