This day I love.......

Yesterday Aldi launched its Back to School range, before the summer holidays have even started!  We still have just over a week before our school holidays start and it is clear that both girls are getting tired and ready for a break.  Launching the Back to School range now has meant that I have had time to get things ready for September without the stress of last minute buying with the children in tow.  The question is is it really value for money?

You can purchase a full uniform package – including two polo shirts, one round neck jumper and either a pair of trousers or a skirt – for just under £5 but if you need to do this every week because an item shrinks in the wash, or simply doesn't last the every day wear and tear of school life it becomes a false economy.  We therefore have been putting a few items to the test over the past few weeks, to see how well Aldi's Back to School range copes.

First on our list was the school trousers, the sample we were sent are a little large for my 5 year old and my skinny 6 year old found them too big.  I have put them to one side for when my youngest daughter grows, so we have not tested these.  I have however washed them and they did not shrink or loose colour!

We did however test school shoes.  These all action, leather, scuff resistant shoes had a lot to live up to and are a real bargain at £6.99.  The question is how did they do with my youngest daughter who spends most of her time falling over invisible objects.

The fit is great, and we have had no issues with rubbing or marking.  They have stayed on her feet and not caused them to get sweaty.  My youngest loves them because inside they are blue and sparkly!  After 3 weeks of use at school they look as good as new.  I perhaps could have cleaned them first, but there are no scuff marks as of yet!

As we are a very active family we spend rather a lot of money on trainers and outdoor wear.  It was a real pleasure therefore to be asked to test Aldi's trainers which have a RRP of £4.99.  My eldest daughter has worn them to parkrun 5km and junior parkrun, as well as to all her sporting clubs and simply loves them.  No marks on her feet, no sweating and they are a great fit too!

It would appear therefore that Aldi's Back to School range really can withstand the everyday wear and tear that my active children can throw at it!

we were sent the items for our honest opinion.

At 7am on a Sunday morning I was awoken by two children requesting to ride their bikes.  Hardly focusing and struggling to wake up, I got the girls their breakfast before agreeing to take them out for the morning to ride bikes.  As my eldest is still building her confidence on two wheels I picked a local park to ride around which is nice and flat and usually quiet.  I also know it is possible to run around the lake in 15 minutes so figured it would be a nice route to ride around, and one suitable for both girls.

We started off around the lake, the girls riding through the muddy puddles and giggling as the muddy water splashed up their legs.

As they cycled around the lake they stumbled upon wooden characters from Room on the broom.  They would both drop their bikes in a very excited fashion and run over to the characters to see which one they had found.

Before quickly jumping back on their backs again to see who else they could find.

Our cycle ride took longer than originally planned, but it was a lot of fun hunting for the different characters.  The reward at the end of the ride, well to see if there is room on the broom!

Yes, there was room on the broom for two!

After a wonderful adventure it was time to ride into the sunset and head home!

This day I love is there room on the broom?

If you have met my youngest daughter you know she is incredibly clumsy. We joke she is best friends with the floor as she spends that much time falling over invisible objects.  She does however love ballet dancing and playing outdoors.

Ballet has really helped her balance and co ordination and whilst its taken over a year she can now hop and stand on one leg!  Riding a scooter can also help with balance and co ordination and the Globber up scooter is really helping her with this.

We started by locking the front wheels, which is easy to do with one button. This helped her to gain confidence on the Globber up before we unlocked them. The Globber up also has a low deck profile, when compared with other scooters.  This low profile means the scooter is not only more stable but also more comfortable. At 3 years old her little legs do not tire as quick on the Globber up, so she wants to ride it for longer.  As she is riding for longer her confidence also build.

Her elder sister also has a Globber up. The Globber up features a height adjustable handle bar meaning it is suitable for both my 5 and 3 year old and will grow with them.  My eldest had been growing in confidence on hers and now uses the brake at the back instead of simply putting her feet down on the floor.

I love the bright vibrant colours of the Globber scooters. They really stand out from the crowd.  The handle bars are soft and padded giving great grip and comfort.

The Globber up weighs 2.6kg and so even if we go out for the day I can carry the scooters for the girls whilst they are not riding but better yet they are able to pick them up themselves!

The Globber up has improved the confidence of both girls.  In my youngest it is also helping to improve her balance and co ordination. It has reinforced their love for the outdoors and at any given opportunity they are both wanting to be outside on their Globber up scooters.  I love that the girls are wanting to be outside playing and love that the Globber up is so comfortable and easy for them to use that it keeps them active for longer.

I purchased the Globber up mentioned in this post, words are my own opinion

It was a rather wet weekend this week.  Lots of thunder storms and showers.  The girls are not ones for sitting still and were desperate to go outside.  The rain did give us the opportunity to get crafty and do some baking, but the girls love the outdoors and so every opportunity we took and got outside.

The great thing about rain is that it makes puddles and mud.  My girls love nothing more than splashing in puddles or squelching in mud.  I secretly love it too.  It is a great way to encourage them to play outside and get active by going on a walk to find muddy puddles.

We always manage to get out and get active no matter what the weather, we just make sure we wear appropriate clothes.  Although playing in the sunshine is much better.  On our exploration walk to find our mud we came across some beautiful horses, one came right up to say hello

I think it was secretly glad for some company.  The girls did manage to find their mud and some puddles, its funny how they always can.  Lucky for us the sunshine stayed out long enough for us to have a lovely walk together.

This day I love when the sun comes out again

My youngest daughter and our dog have such an amazing bond.  It has been there from the first time we brought her home.  He has always protected her and won't let anyone come near her, especially when she is in the pushchair.  She goes to him for cuddles and I can often find her cuddled up to him.  He knows when she is sad or feeling unwell and she knows he will always be there.

Having J has made me feel more secure at home, I know he will always watch out for us.  He has made me more active as I love to take him out with me to explore and he was with me during my training for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.  This leads to a healthy heart and a healthy body.  I don't know what we would do without him, he is a part of our family.
