This day I love.......: autumn

I will openly admit to living in trainers. Once I have run a certain amount of miles in a pair of trainers they become my day to day shoes, until they fall apart and are no longer wearable. I guess that's just what I am used to. Trainers however do get a little cold now that the weather is turning, and it is time for something warmer.

Hotter shoes recently sent me a pair of their Melody boots to try out on my Autumn walks. I opted for a chestnut colour, as I simply preferred the colour. I am also used to lots of space in my running shoes, I wear at least a size bigger, as I find bigger shoes more comfortable as I run longer distances. I will admit to feeling a little worried there would not be enough space, or at least the space I am used to in my boots.

Actually I need not have worried there was plenty of space for me to wiggle my toes inside my boots. Whilst they are true to size I did not feel squished or compact or even squeezed into them, they were comfortable. I was surprised at how comfortable given I wear trainers all the time. The big question was could they handle the walk with the dog and toddler in tow too!

J was busy running around and sniffing everything, and the toddler was busy filling his pockets with rocks! I had no issues running around after them both, even changing speeds and directions with just as much ease as I would have in my trainers.

Wrapped up warm and with warm feet we decided to make the most of the day and go on an adventure. Little Man led the way and we went off to explore in the woods.

We had great fun exploring and playing in the leaves. Little Man collected lots of rocks and even made a few friends along the way.

J was just on constant look out for squirrels.

Lucky for me the grips on the boots were good so that when we did see a squirrel and obviously have to chase it, I didn't fall over!

I think Hotter shoes might have managed to convert me into wearing boots for my walks now in Autumn, they were just as comfy as my trainers but a lot warmer!

I have had a busy but very fun couple of days. Whilst the girls have been at school I have been getting rather creative and doing a few Halloween crafts!

Last year the girls loved trick or treating. Our neighbours really seem to enjoy it too and most of the houses in our street are decorated, this in turn means the girls come away with quite a few treats. Last year they filled their bags and started using their witches hats to carry more treats. Unable to find any larger treat bags I decided to make them one.

I took a paper bag and hung it on the washing line with a clothes peg. Then using black spray paint I carefully spray painted the bag. As it was hanging on the washing line I could get all the way round the bag to paint all sides, and it dried well blowing in the breeze!

Once dried I drew a ghost and stuck this to the bag to act as a template, Using the glow in the dark paint I sprayed the ghost shape onto the bag. The result is a rather spooky Halloween trick or treat bag [the picture is a bit rubbish but my camera and phone could not pick up on the detail in the dark.

My girls seem to really love conker hunting at the minute, and I love that it gives us an excuse to spend more time outdoors. However it does seem to mean that I have a house full of conkers. We do put some of them back outside in our garden for the squirrels.

I took some of the very many conkers that the girls have and sprayed them orange.

The great thing about conkers is that they have a similar shape to pumpkins and when sprayed orange look like mini pumpkins. Giving them a lighter spray means some of the conker brown still comes through as if they are stripped, and it gives it a more natural look to a real pumpkin. Of course carving them would be rather tricky so I took my trusty permanent marker pen........

...... and drew some scary pumpkin faces on them!

When the girls came home from school they even drew a few scary faces on the mini pumpkins!

I am thinking of saving a few for Christmas and perhaps painting them white for snowmen?

Today was a gorgeous Autumn day. The air had a crisp feel to it and the sun shone brightly. It was the perfect day for an Autumn walk after school. Little Man however was not impressed, and as I tried to strap him in his pushchair he twisted and turned and got rather annoyed at me. I knew he did not need a nap and knew he was not hungry, he simply decided to say no to a pushchair.

Time constraints dictated that he had to because we had to get his sisters from school, but he refused and he refused the sling too. Deciding therefore to ditch the pushchair I opted for his Yvolution Strolly. Little Man has the Yvolution Strolly compact, which means I can fold it so it is perfect for popping in the back of the car and going on adventures. It is really lightweight, but at the same time very sturdy so it makes pushing really easy.

Little Man loved reaching out and holding the handle bars. The soft grips are perfect for his small hands and will grow with him.

I strapped him in with the adjustable harness and he rested his arms on the padded sides. The seat does have two positions so I could recline him, but he was happy sitting up and looking out for his sisters.

After picking up his sisters we took a walk in the local park. His sisters looking for conkers and Little Man simply enjoying the fresh air. I could keep an eye on him as the back has a mesh panel, and he was protected from the sun with the folding sunshade. I even had space for a drink in my cup holder! The Yvolution Strolly pushed really easily over the bumpy grass, and made light work of our walk in the park. I was impressed with not only how easy it was to steer but also how well padded the handles were for me, which are also height adjustable.

We had a good walk through the park and it was lovely to see all the Autumn colours coming and the changes the season brings. Little Man was rather pleased with himself too! I can see the Yvolution coming on more adventures with us, and once he is bigger it even transforms into his very first trike!

As for the girls, well they were really pleased with their Autumn walk too and even found some Conkers!
