This day I love.......

There were no tricks only treats for our Halloween celebrations this year.  Unfortunately we had left it too late to carve a pumpkin but we certainly had plenty of other treats in store.  Having been on holiday the week before Halloween I had been a little disorganised in terms of costumes and decorations, but thanks to a last minute shop on boohoo.com the girls costumes were sorted on a next day delivery.

I was really surprised as I was not aware that boohoo.com did kids clothes but they have a huge range with everything from everyday wear to clothes for occasions and all at the same great prices and quality as the adult range.  I even picked up some items for the girls for Christmas.  Little Man I wanted to dress up too, but be a little different.  I know many boys dress up as superheros, and as a superhero mad family I could not resist this temptation.  However I wanted to do things differently, so in a world filled with spider man, captain America and Batman, he had to be Robin.  I found his outfit on amazon and could not pass it by.

The girls got changed straight from school but we had a little bit of time to wait for our friends to come over.  We had decided to go together as a group, not only for safety but also it is more fun trick or treating with friends.  Whilst waiting the girls watched their BBC Children in Need DVD.  This kept them occupied whilst I saw to Little Man, as it is full of all their favourite shows. [For more information visit my Facebook page].

We headed out into the cold, dark, spooky night and were very surprised at how quiet it was.  Last year almost every house was decorated but this year they seemed few and far between.  We have a rule of only knocking on houses that are decorated or have a pumpkin so we seemed to visit more streets than last year.  Perhaps it was due to a school night? Either way we all still had lots of fun and returned home with cold hands and buckets filled with sweets.

My eldest daughter made a point of counting her sweets out, 56 in total.  No idea why she wanted to count them but she did.  Little Man loved that he got to stay up with his sisters and enjoyed all the attention from people we passed.

As we had missed out on the run up to Halloween we continued our celebrations on the 1st November.  1st November marks the beginning of Day of the Dead; the Mexican holiday celebrated with festivals, parties friends and mouth-watering food and drink.  Unlike the name suggests it is actually about celebrating life and is an occasion to be joyful.

The girls were allowed to celebrate with beginning to eat some of their trick or treat sweets, and of course it gave us an excuse to eat Mexican food, which in itself is a cause for celebration.

We used Santa Maria’s kits to help us prepare a quick and tasty Mexican dinner that was enjoyed by the whole family.  Even Little Man enjoyed his Taco!

There of course cannot be a celebration without chocolate in our house.  My birthday this year happened to fall during National Chocolate week so even before Halloween we had a house full with chocolate.  To aid in our celebrations we melted down the chocolate to make a dipping sauce.  Using different flavour chocolates can create different flavour sauces.  I like to add a dash of lime or ginger into mine, whereas my youngest likes to add sprinkles to hers!

Using some of the Halloween treats we made dipping sauces and dipped our Halloween treats and some fruit into the sauces.  I even used  my Thomas J. Fudge’s Florentines to dip into the sauce too.

It is safe to say we have had a fun few days celebrating and Little Man has enjoyed his first spooky celebrations!

This day I love treats, no tricks and the day of the dead.

J and spotty dog were in need of some cheering up. It appears the Easter bunny was unable to bring them some chocolate and they really wanted a treat over Easter. A knock was heard at the door and a special delivery just for them arrived.

Special delivery for our dogs

The postman brought J and spotty dog their very own parcel full of treats. Barkbeats contained a whole box full of goodies just for them. Chocolate drops, pooch and mutt treats, mini bites and a Kong squeaky toy. It even had a flashing light to attach to their collar, perfect for night walks.

Barkbeats box

The Barkbeats box was well packaged and very dog friendly. It is such a lovely idea to have something delivered every month for your dog. Every month you can win 3 free boxes by entering their Facebook contest and if you would like £5 off your first box simply use the code ILOVE

If you want to treat your best friend Barkbeats is such a lovely way to do so.

We received a Barkbeats box to review, all words are my own opinions.

My dogs have a love/hate relationship with our postman. They hate he has to come into their territory to deliver the post and that as excited as they get he never seems to bring them anything. They love that our postman always has treats in his pocket for them and always has time for a cuddle.

the Pawsome Box

One of these was about to change recently when a Pawsome box was delivered for the dogs. They both got very excited by this delivery and could not wait to get the box open.

dogs and Pawsomebox

Once the box was open everyone, including the girls wanted to see what was inside.

Our Pawsome box was filled with love. Heart shape toys, toothpaste for fresh breath kisses, treats and more toys. Both dogs loved the entire contents and J hasn't put the pig down all week. Spotty dog loved all the treats and kept running off with the tub.

The Pawsome box is delivered monthly and is filled with over £30 worth of products. Delivery is free. Each box is unique to your dog. You fill a profile in online to describe your dog and the team at Pawsome then pick the box especially for your dog. The monthly surprise is lovely and a great way to discover new things for the dogs. If you have a cat you can also use the purrfectbox service.

I really love this idea, something every month for the dogs and a great treat.

We received a Pawsome box in exchange for a review.  All words are our own opinion.

It has been one of those days today.  You know the ones when every email [except one] was an email using the words 'sorry' or 'unfortunately' and when your favourite decorations got broken.  Plus you are so tired you are struggling to keep awake.  Then you had to battle with the people in ASDA because you have run out of bread, milk and chocolate tea and unfortunately ASDA is the only place which sells chocolate tea near you [chocolate tea = chocolate Ovaltine].

After all this I then had to do the school pick up in the cold, windy and wet weather.  The walk seemed to last forever.  Lucky for me my youngest was full of festive fun and my eldest was happy to be on school holidays.  They cheered me up, especially when they decided to wear their Father Christmas dresses.

They have been good girls and gone to sleep with minimal fuss which means I can now settle down and enjoy my treat that arrived in the post today.

I think I deserve it

This day I love Festive pick me up

I really love trying the great variety of things we are sent to review, as do my girls.  Not much seems to get sent for our dogs though.  I was therefore really looking forward to the delivery from the Petshop , as this delivery was just for J.

J was very keen to get the box open

There was everything inside for him, treats and food.

He was keen to give them a try

Petshop offer a great range for all pets not just dogs.  They sent us some great food to try.  I had never heard of Almo nature before, so was keen to see what J thought of it.  I will just say that I introduced new food to J in stages to allow his digestive system to get used to it.

Almo nature believe in making dog food using organic ingredients and to know the source of their ingredients.  They only use natural sources that are tailored for your dog.  I was sent their tetra pack which was incredibly easy to open and with no mess.  Squeeze and tear.  There was no offensive smells either which was a great change.  As I also did not need scissors to open the pack I could squeeze it into J bowl, making it easy to dish up for him.  Almo nature has a great range including a soup which is prepared in the packet and is perfect for teething puppies or older dogs.

The dry food we were sent was from Lily's Kitchen.  Lily's Kitchen has been voted the UK's no1 pet food since 2009.  They believe in natural and organic food and prepare fresh ingredients into their food.  J is not normally a fan of dry food but he ate all of Lily's Kitchen.

We also had a couple of treats to try.  The Eukanuba Healthy biscuits were a great size to give as a reward.  The Pooch & Mutt Charity Chicken Grain-Free Treats are a lovely handy size and perfect for playing find it, or for using as training.

Petshop offer an easy to use online system for all your pet food needs.  They even offer a Bottomless bowl subscription, meaning you never run out of pet food again.  J was very impressed with his Petshop delivery and I would highly recommend them.

We were sent a box to review, all opinions are my own [well as dictated by our dog J]

We recently received a lovely box filled with goodies.

Organix goodies to be precise! The range features a huge selection from dried fruit, to squeeze pouches and oat bars. Priding themselves with no additives, or sugar the goodies range give a great option for a healthy snack for little ones.

Each girl had an item from the range they both loved and others they were not so bothered about. The oat bars for example my youngest would eat for breakfast but my eldest wasn't too keen. Both girls loved the poppy seed cracks and fruity squeeze pouches. I also must confess to having tried the tomato crackers and they are lovely.

The goodie range features a wide variety that there is something to suit all tastes, even the fussiest of eaters like my eldest!
