This day I love.......

We arrived at Meadowhall shopping centre on a cold Saturday morning. The girls thought I had completely lost it when I led them through the shopping centre and out through the doors at the back of the Oasis. We were here however to wish upon a star with Santa, and the giant white marquees in front of us was where the magic would take place.

Now the excitement began to start. The girls reading the doors and understanding they were in for a treat. Little Man just wanting to get inside from the cold. In we went to be greeted by a rather friendly elf and a warm and cost looking forest.

Magical adventures take place in designated time slots and so we patiently waited our turn. Making the most of the comfy seating and finding some of the items hidden in the forest too.

At last it was our turn and we entered the doors into the forest. Greeted by another friendly elf and it was here we were taught how to say hello, or the magical salute. The children all sat on special wooden seats to listen to a short presentation on how they catch wishes. Little Man at 2 year old didn't really understand what was going on and for us adults we were watching a screen with little sound. The older children watched and listened and seemed to grasp what was happening.

Onwards again through the forest to meet the wish catcher. We sat and listened to a story of how the wishes are caught by a very animated elf who made the story come alive. The girls listened intently and then it was time for them to see if they could spot any wishes themselves.

Our final room awaited us and it was here the girls got to write down their very own wishes. This room was very crowded and there were not enough seats on the main table so my children had to sit on the sides. I had to go and fetch the pens and glue they needed from the main table once others had finished, so we had a bit of waiting around to do.

As you finished writing your wishes elves would come and take a family at a time out of the room. We were still waiting in line as the next group came in to write their wishes so it did get a little crowded in here.

Still it was worth the wait as we went through a magical door to find Father Christmas sat waiting for us. He spent time chatting to the girls and reading their wishes along with asking what they would like for Christmas. Little Man had gone shy so didn't want to go near Father Christmas.

The whole experience lasted around 40 minutes but we did spend quite a lot of time in the final room waiting so perhaps some people spent less time. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and the elves are all incredibly animated and magical which makes for a wonderful experience. Father Christmas spent time with the girls and didn't rush them which is always lovely too.

Thank you to Meadowhall for inviting us to Wish upon a star with Santa.

This weekend it was time to pick our Christmas tree.  In previous years we have had an artificial tree, but after over 10 years of moving it in and out the box it finally broke.  I had never really considered a real Christmas tree before.  I thought of them as uneconomical and bad for the environment, but an email from Forestry Commission England gave me interesting food for thought.

First the email stated

'Real trees use 10 times fewer materials and five times less energy than artificial trees.'

Given my bad for the environment thought, I realised that actually a real tree was better for the environment.  I then got to thinking how I am going to dispose of my broken fake tree, I can't sell it or charity shop it because it is broken.  It is not recyclable, so it has to go to landfill which is a real waste.  A real Christmas tree would biodegrade so again better for the environment.  My final concern was the act of chopping down a tree, but again Forestry Commission England put my mind at ease.  Forestry Commission England only source trees grown in a well-managed way in the UK and ensure more trees are planted than harvested.  Then came the icing on the cake not only is every tree Santa approved but we also would be given a sapling to plant at home!  I loved this idea.

This year it is Little Man's first Christmas.  I wanted a way to mark this occasion and planting a tree in our garden seems a perfect way to do this.  As Little Man grows, so will the tree and each year we can watch and see each grow.  I plan on growing the tree in a pot, so that one year when Little Man is older he can have his very own Christmas tree that is the same age as him.

Whilst Dalby Forest is almost 2 hours away from us it is the perfect location for a day out, and it was the perfect location to choose our Christmas tree.  After choosing our tree and given our certificate of approval from Santa we went to visit the man himself in his grotto.  Little Man was amazed by all the pretty lights, and he also has a thing for beards!  As a gift from Father Christmas the girls and Little Man were not only given a present but also give a sapling to plant.  I now had 4 saplings!  I loved this because it was not only something a bit different but something special that the girls could take care of.

Armed with their gifts from Father Christmas we embarked on a Christmas trail through Dalby.

The trail took us through the forest, learning about the different trees and finding the perfect one for Father Christmas.  It was an easy walk and the girls ran ahead looking at the trees and hunting for bugs.  I simply admired the views and took my time pushing Little Man along the route.

Dalby Forest has a wonderful play area for all ages, the girls took it easy in the giant swing whilst Little Man had a nap.

Before putting their balancing skills to the test on the obstacle course.  Not easy in wellington boots!

Although wellington boots are perfect for jumping in muddy puddles!

The night was beginning to draw in and whilst we did not want to leave it was time to head home.  The girls were incredibly happy with their 100% Santa approved Christmas tree, they loved their gifts from Father Christmas and that they got to spend a day outdoors playing.  I feel happy that we made the right decision to get a real tree this year and love that we will have 4 real Christmas trees in years to come, that is if we take care of them!

This Day I love Santa approved Christmas tree

Thank you to Dalby Forest we had a wonderful day.  All words are my own opinion.  We were provided with lunch, a voucher for a tree and the visit to the Santa grotto.

When the girls woke up this morning they were a little confused.  I had not made them breakfast and it was not sat waiting from them like usual.  Instead they were told to get dressed as we would be having breakfast somewhere special.  We arrived at our local Wyevale garden centre and was greeted by an elf who gave us directions for breakfast, the girls were now very excited.

Another elf showed us to our table and the girls got stuck in straight away pulling Christmas crackers whilst waiting for breakfast to arrive.

There was even time to do a spot of festive colouring.

Breakfast was full English for all of us and my youngest kept saying 'Beans?for breakfast?'  They rarely have a full English so it is a treat for them to have one.  I was surprised at how much they did eat, especially given the excitement of all the elves!

The elves said the girls had been really good at eating all their breakfast and so deserved a treat.  First however they needed to sing Jingle bells.  As they came to the end of Jingle bells they got a real surprise as in walked Father Christmas!

The girls were a little star struck but soon got round to having a chat and a giggle with Father Christmas

After all the excitement the girls sat back down at the table and began creating some festive ginger biscuits.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning.  The girls had a wonderful time and I think are going to want to do this every morning.

This day I love a surprise for breakfast

Thanks to Wyevale garden centre for providing us with tickets for Breakfast with Father Christmas.  All words are my own opinion.

My girls seem to be growing up rather quickly and whilst I love watching them develop I want to keep some aspects of their childhood for as long as possible.  One of these is a belief in Father Christmas.

My eldest at 5 has had a few more questions this year about Father Christmas but one of the ways we keep the magic alive is a special video and phone call from Father Christmas every year.  We use PNP, Portable North Pole, to help keep the magic alive.

I first used PNP when my youngest was born, so my eldest would have been 2.  I love the change in the videos each year but how they still keep the magic alive.  Be warned before your watch them that if you are a little hormonal they will make you cry, as you see your little ones face light up.

You specially tailor the video for your child, selecting if they are on the naughty or nice list.  You can even have Father Christmas talk to them by name, although this is only available for certain names.  With a gold pass bundle you can also download unlimited HD video from Santa and you can have unlimited premium video messages with 15 personalisation.  Although in the past I have used the free version which has five personalisation, I would much rather pay the extra to make it that extra bit special.

Within the personalisation of the video you can include things like their siblings names, what they would like for Christmas and photos.  You can even include the names of their friends from school.  Premium videos have a range to choose from including one from the sleigh, prefect for Christmas eve.

The videos are a lovely way for children to see the magic.  One year I created one for the girls Dad and they found it very funny that Father Christmas had put Daddy on the naughty list.  Last year my eldest did not believe me that Father Christmas was watching her and so I used one of the phone calls from Father Christmas for him to call her.  Her face was magical.  Her behaviour changed and then a few days later we watched her video which said she was on the nice list.  She was very happy with this and continued to behave.

PNP has become a tradition in our house and is a wonderful way to help keep the magic alive in children.

PNP also donates 5% of all online sales to 40 children’s hospitals across the world – 4 based in the UK.

This year we have been gifted a gold package, but in previous years I have paid to use PNP.  All words are my own opinion.

Last year I took the girls to Enchanted.  It was a magical night and when I heard it was on again this year I knew I had to get tickets.  This year Enchanted also had a magical fair ground and had been turned into a Winter wonderland.

on the rides

The girls wanted to go on all the rides but at £2 per person per ride it soon became expensive.  They selected 2 rides each and the horse carosel.

We spent over an hour in the fair ground before heading down to the Enchanted forest.  We could see the lights glowing in the distance and yes it rained again this year.

enchanted forest

Some of the lights were the same as last year but there was a couple of new ones.  The girls loved them just as much especially the ones they could interact with

into the lightfairy door

We came around the corner after the elves workshop and the girls were a little star struck when they spotted Anna hidden in the Enchanted forest.

meeting Anna from Frozen

This then prompted them to look for Elsa.

She wasn't hidding in the Santa grotto, though they did sneak a peak of Father Christmas in there.

Finding Father Christmas

The girls went through the magical wardrobe and through the magical forest.  They could hear some singing and around the corner there was Elsa.

Finding Elsa

The girls thought the Enchanted forest was really magical and could not believe they had found Elsa and Anna hiding in there.  It was time to catch the train back home

We all had a really magical evening and look forward to the festive fun next year

This day I love an Enchanted Winter Wonderland

Since my eldest turned 2 I have created her a video message from Father Christmas using PNP [Portable North Pole].  I have done this every year and it has become a tradition for us.  I have always loved watching her face light up as Father Christmas talks to her through my computer and we watch the video unfold.

This year is no different and I have again created both girls a video from Father Christmas.  PNP however have made a few additions.  You can now create video messages for adults, and yes you can choose to put them on the naughty list.  You can even create phone calls from Father Christmas.

My eldest was not in a very good mood the other morning so I scheduled a call from Father Christmas to cheer her up.  She couldn't believe the phone was for her and that it was Father Christmas.  Needless to say she got dressed for school very quickly that morning.  I cannot think what he must have said.

Videos and calls can be created on the computer and this year also via the android app.  The app is free to download and very simple to use.  I have had to uninstall the app twice as it said error when I went in to view my created messages but this reinstall fixed the problem.

I am so glad I discovered PNP over 2 years ago as seeing the smiles on my girls faces when they see Father Christmas talk to them is amazing.  I love the new additions they have made, the apps and the phone calls as this simply adds to the magic.

I was provided with a code to create a video for the girls.  All words are my own opinion.

This year the girls have decided to write their very first letter to Father Christmas.  We began by cutting out things from magazines which both girls wanted for Christmas.

making a letter to Father Christmas

The girls loved cutting and sticking.  They turned over each page and spent a while looking at all the toys, choosing what they would like.  After they had finished cutting and sticking it was time for my eldest to write her letter.  She took great pride in thinking about the words and what she wanted to write, sounding them out and asking me for help.

 Letter to Father Christmas

She has written:

To Santa

We have been good girls.  Please bring us some toys. Love [followed by their names] xxxxxxx

After she wrote the letter she then wrote the envelope

Santa, North Pole, Lapland

envelope to Father Christmas

We placed everything inside the envelope and tomorrow on our way to school we will post the letter to Father Christmas.

The girls loved writing their letter to Father Christmas and I cannot wait to see their faces when they get a reply!

This day I love Good Girls

We have received two beautiful deliveries recently and it is now beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. With only 7 weeks to go, I am starting to get organised and plan decorating and presents. With me thinking about the decorations one of the items I am very keen on is lights.

I love to have soft lights on in the house, I think it makes the winter seem warmer and welcoming. Last year we were sent some lights from the LED hut and I am looking forward to getting them out again. The LED hut have sent us some beautiful twig branch lights.

The beautiful clear flowers on the branch look so great even when the light is switched off

When switched on they give a beautiful warm glow, and the flowers are clearly illuminated.

The twigs can be stood in a vase or on there own, to create a lovely display. As they are battery operated there are no wires and this means they can go any where in the house. I like that they are battery operated as there are no wires for the girls to trip over. The battery compartment is also not too bulky so it can be hidden in the bottom of a vase.

Our other special delivery was from the Christmas boutique. I opened the box and was suddenly felt very Christmassy. There were tree decorations, gift bags, and ornaments. Almost everything we needed for Christmas, the Christmas boutique have a wide range and something to suit everyone's taste. We had both modern items and more traditional items

Meaning that every home can find something to suit how they wish to decorate.

With me starting to be organised too I have also arranged letters from Santa to the girls. There were 4 letters to choose from, 3 suitable for any age and 1 for babies. I picked a different letter for each girl and also opted for an activity pack.

The activity pack contains:

Colouring in Santa stop here
Elf yourself activity sheet
Colouring in Christmas card
Door hanger
Colour and keep tree decoration

I am really looking forward to the girls doing these activities in December. I haven't yet given them the letters from Santa, I am waiting for a bit closer to the time but I know they will enjoy the activity pack. My daughters also have in their letter a certificate to say they are on the nice list. This will bring a huge smile to their faces as they are really into certificates at the moment.

The letter has been personalised to each girl. The process was really easy to do. I selected the present they both have asked for and included their friends names. This will make it extra special for each girl. I cannot wait to see their faces when they open their letters from Santa.

Next day delivery is available on the letters if ordered before 2pm and all letters will start leaving the Lapland mailing room from the 1st December.

I am really looking forward to bringing the magic of Christmas to the girls this year.

I am pleased to be able to offer one lucky reader a personalised letter from Santa including activity pack.  Follow the instructions on the Rafflecopter below.  Giveaway is open to UK residents aged 18 and over and closes GMT midnight on 25th November

Old Moor RSPB site had set on some Winter Festive crafts today for children, so I took the girls along.  My eldest made a Father Christmas and my youngest painted a bauble

After a spot of craft, we ventured outside to play on the fantastic park the site has.  Thankfully the rain had stopped.

You can't come to an RSPB site though without doing some bird watching

bird watching

The girls were on the look out, but we did not see any birds.  We kept looking though and then something caught their eyes.  Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No its......

Santa Reindeerreindeer

Some reindeer.  Though not just any reindeer, these ones had flown in with a special visitor in tow.  Yes the man himself

Father Christmas!

[Although if you want to see the photo previous to this one, my youngest was not so keen]

Youngest not keen

My eldest had the biggest smile on her face.  I love how this year she has true Christmas magic.  I can't wait for next year when my youngest is there too.

After a busy morning the girls where a little hungry so we stopped for lunch.  When who should walk past and sit on the table behind us

Father Christmas lunch

My eldest was beyond distracted from her lunch, although when Father Christmas said to her 'That looks like a nice lunch are you eating it all up like a good girl?'  It soon disappeared!

The girls and I had a really lovely day out together and my eldest is so happy she has seen Father Christmas

This day I love is it a bird?
