This day I love.......

Recently Little Man has become uncomfortable in his infant carriers, and tries at every opportunity to sit up. He is no way ready to be forward facing, and my personal opinion is he will rear face until at least 2. Yet he needed something to help with this urge to sit up and keep him rear facing.

The Diono Radian 5 perhaps offered such solution. The seat is group 0-2 meaning it will last him until he is 25Kg or 7 years old. Rear facing right up until 25Kg and suitable from birth it perhaps offered exactly what we needed. I checked the compatibility booklet and noticed that it could even be used in the middle seat of our car. The profile is slim so I had no issues fitting it in the middle seat and having the girls seats in also.

As the Radian 5 is suitable for a range of ages it does take some assembly to make sure it is set for the correct age you wish to use it for. This was rather time consuming and in some places a little complex, so I am pleased this only needed to be done the once until he is ready for the next stage of seat when I will have to make changes to the seat to suit his growing needs.

The Diono Radian 5 also comes with an additional back booster should you be unable to rest the seat against the seat in front (rear facing) and it is worth looking for this piece as you may accidentally throw away as it looks like packaging material!

Once the seat is ready to install it is so quick to do, and is all done by seat belt. It is so quick I had to check several times to make sure I had done it correctly. This means that the seat can be used in most cars, provided they are in the compatible check list book, and is not dependant on isofix.

I was pleasantly surprised by the width of the Radian 5. Although it has cup holders which you can attach, it is actually a real narrow profile, so if it is compatible with your cars middle seat it would be perfect for use there, and provided any other seats have adequate room also.

One of the great features of the Diono Radian 5 is the ability for it to fold. The Radian 5 has a steel frame, so it is a little heavier than other seats in the market, but it is still light enough to be placed in aircraft hold. I would make use of the folding and place inside a hard case suit case. The Radian 5 could then be used abroad, which makes it a great option if you are travelling.

Little man was securely fastened with the harness, although I sometimes struggle to pull it tight and wonder if I have assembled the seat slightly wrong. He felt very happy in the seat and often falls to sleep, which shows his comfort.

The Radian 5 also offers some great safety features. As well as the steel case it also offers unique safety protection on the sides.

Whilst the initial set up can be a little tricky, this only needs to be done once for each developmental stage and the ease of installation far out weighs this. I love how the seat folds so it can be transported or even used on holiday and there are some great additional extras like cup holders. The Radian 5 also does not scrimp on comfort or on safety and is sure to last from birth. It's slimline profile means it is possible to get three Radian 5 seats in the back of most cars, but check your car first. Overall a very impressive seat that gives the option to rear face, if needed and the safety you would expect from Diono.

The Cybex cloud q infant car seat is a group 0+ car seat and has a RRP of £220. It is available as either belted or base. The base can be attached either via isofix or via three point seat belt. I particularly like this as a belted base can then be used in the middle seat and the functionally of isofix becomes available.  This is a group 0+ infant carrier, however Cybex also do the Sirona which is a 0+/1 seat and allows rear facing to 4 years. [RRP £375]

The first thing to note with any car seat is that to ensure it is appropriate for your car. Each car seat comes with an approved car list and the Cloud Q is no exception to this. The Cloud Q was approved for use in my car and I was also able to use the base on the Middle seat with the seat belt.

Installation was really easy with the base. I managed it whilst holding little man as he did not want to be put down. The isofix bars are easily located underneath the base and can be stored there if using a belted fitting as I did. The support leg is simple to extended using a squeezing method and fits snug on the floor. I particularly like the handy guides in the seat to show you not only the direction to install, rear facing, but also to help you get the seat level. This is a really great visual guide to ensure the seat is installed correctly.

The handle for the seat can be in various positions outside the car, but needs to be in a downward position in the car. It is worth checking this as all seats are different and some require the handle to be in an up positions. Little man is kept well supported within the seat and seems to have plenty of padding around him.

The head rest is easy to extend out the back with a simple pull or push and this also moves the harness. This is great because there is no re threading of the harness as your child grows.

The harness does twist quite easily and it is worth checking that it is untwisted when fastening your child in the seat. A three point harness is easily adjusted using a simple push button at the base of the seat near the child's feet. A quick release red button to undo the harness is also easy to locate.

The cloud q is rather clever in that out of the car it has a true lie flat recline. Whilst I am a firm believer that a car seat should always stay in the car this functionality is great should an emergency arise and you needed to use the car seat outside the car. It is a true lie flat and not on an angle which is perfect for babies alignment and breathing.

The hood on the cloud a easily retracts and when fully extended provides ample shade. It has a great modern look and feel to it.

Overall the cloud q is quick and easy to install with a variety of installing options. It grows with your child and there is no need to re thread the harness as it is all done automatically. My only niggle is the harness does twist easily. It has a true lie flat function and looks modern and stylish.   The cloud Q is a welcome addition to the Cybex range which also includes the Solution Q2 fix.  [RRP £190]

The Cloud Q was sent for review, all words are my own opinion.

Whilst our car has three full seats in the back, some infant car seats are slightly wider than these passenger seats meaning it is not always possible to fit three seats in the back.  My middle seat has no isofix points and my outer two seats have underfloor storage compartments.  This means I cannot use any isofix seat which uses the anchor leg.  I therefore had to find a car seat for baby that would fit with the seats the girls already own and if using Isofix it must not have the support leg.

One of my main requirements for a car seat for baby was that it must have the ability to lie flat.  I am very aware of the 90 minute rule in car seats, and that babies should be removed from car seats at the end of a journey.  I wanted to ensure that baby would be in the optimum position in the car and that is to lie flat.  My choices therefore were slightly limited.  However, lucky for me one of my favourite car seat brands not only matched my requirements but also fitted in the car.

The Kiddy evolutionpro 2 can be either isofix or 3 point seat belt fastened.  We therefore opted for seat belt and it fitted on the back seats with the existing car seats.  There was a range of gorgeous colours available and we went for blue.

I have been really impressed at how easy the Kiddy evolution pro 2 is to fit in the car.  The lap belt fits in the seat belt guides and the diagonal belt slots in round the back.

This back part also stores the instruction manual should you need it.  There is a clever safety feature that if the handle is in the wrong position the lap belt guide is blocked, so you cannot fasten the seat in incorrect.  I love these simple touches as a car seat is useless if not fitted correctly and this helps to make it easy to install.  The handle is how you make the seat lie flat, but it cannot be lie flat in the car with seat belt installation.

I have not tested the car seat on stroller wheels, but understand it is travel system compatible.  There are also accessories such as parasol and premature baby inlay but I have not used these.

Other than the lie flat functionality my other favourite feature is how padded the seat is.  There is great side impact protection and the harness is padded too.  The seat feels incredibly comfy, I have been trying to think how to describe the padding on the seat but have struggled.  It feels protective.

The three point harness can easily be adjusted with a simple press and release button located at the front of the seat.

Overall I have been really impressed with the Kiddy evolution pro2.  It is quick and easy to install in the car and it feels incredibly comfy and protective.  Baby seems to really like it too!

Kiddy sent us the car seat in exchange for review.  All words are my own opinion

The Easter holidays have arrived and I am very much looking forward to getting out and about with the girls and baby.  We have lots of activities planned and my Mum has even offered to have the girls for a day out.

The girls have been trying some new products to help with our trips out over Easter. The Sneck is a travel pillow which attaches to the headrest using Velcro.  It is incredibly soft as it is filled with microbeads and it provides a great place for a child to rest their head without getting in the way of the seat belt or harness.  The girls also love the pocket so they can stash treats inside.  It is really easy and simple to use and gives the girls that extra comfort if they need it.  I can also see it to be useful on the plane when we go on holiday next year.

The Junkie has been a life saver and absolutely amazing. It has two cup holders, retractable trays, a 'tech mount' and a place to organise everything you need in the car.

The tech mount has been fantastic as it means we only need to take one tablet with us and the girls can share and watch the same film.  We fill the removable tote bag with things the girls need before a journey and then fasten the Junkie into the middle seat using the seat belt.  The Junkie really becomes useful after a journey as well as all the items the girls have used or their rubbish can be taken straight out the car.  We simply love how everything is easy to reach and kept tidy and that it contains everything the girls need for a journey.

The girls have also been trying the award winning BubbleBum.  BubbleBum is an inflatable car seat.  It takes less than 20 seconds to inflate by mouth and conforms to all EU and US regulations.  The BubbleBum has proved really useful recently as my Mum had to pick my eldest from school when I was in labour with baby.  My eldest had the BubbleBum in her school bag just in case.  It meant that should I not be able to get her from school she would be able to get in the car with my Mum or her friend and be safe.  It is designed for ages 4-11 so is ideal for my eldest.  It is perfect for those emergency situations or even for travel in taxis or abroad.

It has been a rather exciting time for Thing 3.  All at once things seem to be arriving, from the less exciting things like nappy liners for my washable nappies and of course the disposable nappies to some really exciting items!

Babyzen Yoyo

We sold or gave away all of our baby items so had no pushchair for Thing 3, well unless you include BOB but as that is a double and not suitable until 6 months it was not something we could use straight away.  With my tummy muscles torn and hips displaced I decided that one of my priorities in a pushchair was that it would be lightweight.  I do not know how long it will take me to recover after Thing 3 arrives and I so a light weight pushchair was a must.

Babyzen yoyo

We are also planning a family holiday to Florida, we were supposed to be going this year but due to fly on my due date so we had to reschedule, and I wanted something we could take with us.  I did a lot of research into different systems and the Babyzen YoYo ticked all of our boxes.

I have purchased this pushchair and not been sent it to review, however I may well write a review on it as I absolutely love it so far.  It is incredibly light weight and has a really small fold, it is actually cabin approved for most airlines.  I love how easy it is to fold and unfold, and whilst I won't use it as a running pushchair I will be using it as my every day pushchair.  I cannot wait for Thing 3 to arrive!

Brother Max Thermometer

The Brother Max is a 6 in 1 contact less thermometer, and I think it is fantastic.  I remember the struggles of having to take a temperature from a wriggly baby and never getting an accurate reading.  The thermometer is so easy to use, simply press the forehead button and point.  It takes the temperature and displays the reading.

Brother Max thermometer

In addition you can also take the temperature of the room, food, milk, bath water and skin.  All contact less so you could get an idea if something was too hot before using it or giving it to your child.  Whilst for Thing 3, I can see this getting used for the whole family.  The girls have been taking the temperatures of everything they can think of and think it is lots of fun.  I will be sharing a full review and a video soon!

Sam the Sleepy Sheep

My girls take ages to go to sleep, in fact we started bedtime at 6pm it is now 10.15 and I still have one awake [my eldest].  Once they are asleep they do stay asleep though which I guess is a bonus.  I am hoping Thing 3 does not behave the same way and is actually a good sleeper.

Sam the Sleepy Sheep is a story that has been designed using language patterns to help children relax and feel tired.  The book comes with instructions at the start which took me a while to get used to, I did have to read the book a few times out loud without the girls just to get used to how to read the story.  You can also get the story on audio book if you prefer.

Sam the sleepy sheep

My eldest at 5 cannot seem to switch off and for her she wants to read the book with me.  She does not yet seem to be capable of just lying and listening to the story, so as of yet I do not know if it would work on her.  My youngest however will lie back and listen.  The story does seem to have a calming property on her and when we do read the book bedtime is much quicker and easier.

We do not read Sam the Sleepy Sheep every night, as the girls like to vary the stories they have read and to be honest some nights I myself am just too tired to read a longer story and perhaps put the emphasis that is needed with this book.  On the nights we do read it, I can say that it does really help my youngest to unwind.

When Thing 3 arrives I hope to read the book to them too to help them to drift off to a good nights sleep.

Kiddy evolution pro 2

This week has been incredibly exciting as the other item to arrive is the car seat!  I originally wanted a car seat that would lie flat in the car, however this was not possible as they did not fit in my car.  It is always important to test the car seats first as not all seats fit every car.  I also have two other car seats in my car for each of the girls and have to fit Thing 3 car seat around these.

Kiddy car seat

The Kiddy evolution pro 2 can allow baby to lie flat outside of the car, so if I ever did decide to take the car seat out of the car I could make use of the lie flat feature.  We have practised putting it in the car and it is incredibly easy to install.  There are so many safety features, the newborn inlay feels incredibly padded and soft and I love the extending sun canopy.  Cannot wait to bring Thing 3 home in it and I will be writing a full review too.

A little while ago we reviewed the Cosatto Hug which was installed via a 3 point harness.  Cosatto recently launched the Hug with isofix installation and I was keen to see how they would compare.  Both Cosatto Hug have great side protection and a deep padded seat.  As with all Cosatto products the Hug comes with a 4 year guarantee and a gorgeous pattern.

Recline Yes, five different angles
Instructions Paper booklet
Assembly No Assembly required
Ease of First Installation Instructions on side of seat with simple step by step guide for first installation.  Can be tricky to convert to Group 2,3
Depth, Height Width L: 64cm W: 50cm D: 50cm
Weight 9.5 KG
Testing and Certification ECE R 44/04

The Cosatto Hug was quick and simple to install when following the instructions for first installation.  Instructions are clearly printed on the side of the Hug for quick reference.

A great feature on the Cosatto Hug is the ability to control each isofix bar independently.  Each bar has its own button to press to release and therefore if one has attached and not the other, which is often the case, you can simply re release the unattached bar to get a secure fit.  The buttons are located on the front of the seat.

To help with installation the Cosatto Hug also comes with isofix guides.  These do aid installation and the yellow colour helps to make them visible in the car during install.

An additional safety feature the isofix installation has over the belted installation is the top tether.  The top tether adds an extra layer of security to the seat, particularly if the car was to roll.  Another clever feature of the Hug, which I have not seen on other car seats, is the roll of excess strap.   With most top tether there is a lot of strap left over which often gets thrown around the car.  As this is rolled and stays rolled it is much easier to store the excess.

The top tether also did not seem to take too much tension in order to be of correct tightness, I have had other seats in comparison that have left dent marks in the seat.

Installation was quick and simple to do and gave a much more secure fit in the car than the belted installation seat.  Both the belted and the isofix seat features good deep padding on both the head rest and on the sides.  With gorgeous patterns.

My youngest was very pleased with her new seat, however she currently weighs 16.5kg and is tall for her age [she is taller than her older sister].  I did notice that the harness did not appear to fit her correctly, it looked as if it was coming from below her shoulders.  The head rest would not increase any further in order to give me the extra height needed.  The harness and head rest move together to ensure correct positioning.  I could have done with just one extra notch for the head rest to get the harness level with her shoulders.

It is just about level in the photo but I don't think it would be much longer before it is below her shoulders.  This would mean she would need to be in a Group 2 seat a little earlier than I would like in order to ensure correct fit in the car.

Upon conversion to Group 2,3 you do get extra head rest height.

To convert involves removing the harness and seat pads.  The tricky part was removing the buckle, as I found it tricky to get the clip out of the socket.  However the rest of the seat was easy to remove.

The Cosatto Hug isofix offers as much luxury as the belted installation.  Overall though I would choose the Cosatto Hug isofix over the belted installation as I feel the seat is secured better in the car and is a much better fit.

We have been sent a Cosatto Hug car seat to review.  All words ad opinions are my own.
