This day I love.......

There is a corner of my office which I just feel is unloved and a little wasted. I have thought for a long time that a floor lamp would look great but have never managed to find one that I liked. With this my office and only a small space I also lack in storage in the room and so have also thought about putting a shelving system here.

I stumbled across a light on value lights that combines both storage and a floor lamp. The lamp is available i several colours but a I chose oak to match the rest of the room. There is some assembly required but it is quick and simple to do.

The lamp has a fabric shade and a vintage feel to it, but it fits perfectly in my office. The shelves are great for storing small items, I would be wary of putting anything heavy on them, but this is mainly due to the space available.

Using the corner in this way has given my office a new look and feel, and it feels much brighter. I feel that I have made the best use of the space available and given a great use to an otherwise unused space.

The Easter holidays have arrived and I am very much looking forward to getting out and about with the girls and baby.  We have lots of activities planned and my Mum has even offered to have the girls for a day out.

The girls have been trying some new products to help with our trips out over Easter. The Sneck is a travel pillow which attaches to the headrest using Velcro.  It is incredibly soft as it is filled with microbeads and it provides a great place for a child to rest their head without getting in the way of the seat belt or harness.  The girls also love the pocket so they can stash treats inside.  It is really easy and simple to use and gives the girls that extra comfort if they need it.  I can also see it to be useful on the plane when we go on holiday next year.

The Junkie has been a life saver and absolutely amazing. It has two cup holders, retractable trays, a 'tech mount' and a place to organise everything you need in the car.

The tech mount has been fantastic as it means we only need to take one tablet with us and the girls can share and watch the same film.  We fill the removable tote bag with things the girls need before a journey and then fasten the Junkie into the middle seat using the seat belt.  The Junkie really becomes useful after a journey as well as all the items the girls have used or their rubbish can be taken straight out the car.  We simply love how everything is easy to reach and kept tidy and that it contains everything the girls need for a journey.

The girls have also been trying the award winning BubbleBum.  BubbleBum is an inflatable car seat.  It takes less than 20 seconds to inflate by mouth and conforms to all EU and US regulations.  The BubbleBum has proved really useful recently as my Mum had to pick my eldest from school when I was in labour with baby.  My eldest had the BubbleBum in her school bag just in case.  It meant that should I not be able to get her from school she would be able to get in the car with my Mum or her friend and be safe.  It is designed for ages 4-11 so is ideal for my eldest.  It is perfect for those emergency situations or even for travel in taxis or abroad.

One of the reasons we chose to move into this house was because it gave my husband his much needed space.  Having 2 girls he wanted somewhere he could escape to to listen to the football and play computer games.  Whilst he is very lucky to have this space, we have encountered several problems with the space, and that is the shape of it.

His ‘man cave’, as it is more commonly known is in the attic.  Which means small walls, sloping ceilings and every possible angle you can think of for the walls.  Finding storage, such as shelving, to fit in this space has been near impossible.  Nearly 4 years since we moved and the majority of my husband's books are still in the moving boxes, because he simply does not have anywhere to put them.

Shape of the room

When ContiBoard got in touch with a blogger challenge, I was incredibly excited.  I realised that ContiBoard was the answer we had been looking for, especially after I saw this triangular bookcase.  I realised that possibilities were endless and the only limitation was my design ability.  My mind got busy drawing up plans and working out how to adapt the design to best suit the space and came up with the following

Plans for storage

The design would give my husband shelving either side of the projector, and plenty of space for all his books.  I must admit that I was a little worried if ContiBoard could handle the weight of the books, but a quick look at past projects of ContiBoard soon put my mind at ease.  ContiBoard comes in a variety of colours and we decide that the Nut crunch would be perfect for the space.  We wanted something light, as the space can feel quite intimidating with the low ceilings and Nut crunch seemed the perfect choice.

Each ContiBoard comes in packs of 2.  As each shelf unit is identical it was easy to work out which packs to order from the site.  I simply had to order what I would need for one side, as the other side would automatically be taken care of.  I also remembered to add in my edging tape.  Delivery is free and was really quick, the delivery guy was also really helpful.  All we needed to do now was put the plans into action.

ContiBoard

First step was to measure the boards, I had labelled the packs according to the designs to make things easier and so we knew which boards to cut to which size

Measuring units

Then cut the boards to the required size

Making cuts

Once my Dad and Husband had cut all the boards they took everything upstairs into the attic and began assembling

Assembling storage

Checking their work as they went

Making adjustments

It didn’t take long before they had assembled one complete side and affixed it to the wall

Attach to the wall

With one side complete all that was left to do was repeat the process for the other side

And the other side

In the space of one afternoon [they started around 2pm and finished at 6pm] My husband and my Dad had built both units.  They started at 2pm as it took them most of the morning to move the boxes out of the way in order to have space to build the units.  This is probably quicker than building flat pack furniture and the ContiBoard is of a much higher quality.  The design is also unique to the space, meaning it is purpose built so does exactly what my husband needs in the space provided and with no compromises.

ContiBoard was really easy to work with, I watched my Dad cut the boards with ease and would have been able to do so myself had my pregnancy bump not got in the way.  Holes in the boards were drilled using an ordinary drill and secured in place using wood screws.  No out of the ordinary tools were required and all put together by my Dad and husband, who followed a design that I created.

The only limitation to ContiBoard is your imagination.  If you can dream it then it can be created.  My husband is impressed with the look and finish, and I am impressed with the quality.  It might have taken nearly 4 years for us to find a solution but I am so glad we discovered ContiBoard, as the quality and finish is fantastic and we have a bespoke solution that we designed and built at home.

Having redesigned our master bedroom and having new wardrobes fitted gave me the perfect excuse to have a clear out. To have a look through those items that I no longer wear and those that no longer fit me. A recent survey shows that on average every UK female only wears 70% of their wardrobe.

I was looking forward to the challenge and clearing out some of the things I haven't worn in ages. The main problem I had was trying to work out if I would fit into some items after thing 3 arrives. Whilst hoping I can return to a similar pre pregnancy size it is an unknown at the moment and this made things harder.

It wasn't long before I got into it though and became a little ruthless. I actually found the whole thing therapeutic. Soon though I had finished my wardrobe and began to look for another challenge. I started on the attic. The clothes we put up there for winter/summer soon got a good sort out, as did my maternity clothes.

The girls saw me tidying and wanted to help so we began looking at their wardrobe. We have so far filled 3 of the de clutter bags (each weigh 5kg) but there is still one more wardrobe to go, my husbands! I can see many more been filled with items of clothing as we look through his.

Thanks to Bedroom Storage Maker provider of wardrobe storage systems for providing the de clutter bags!

Diono are a brand I have admired for some time.  One of my biggest passions is car seats and car seat safety.  Diono encompassed all my passions within their brand.  Their products are world class and the engineer in me has great admiration for them.

I was thrilled to be picked as a Diono family member and to be given the opportunity to test some of the Diono range.  Whilst I have not been asked to write on my blog about the products I wanted to share them.

Ultra Mat Deluxe

My youngest daughter is a little messy and clumsy.  She often spills things in the car and leaves a huge mess.  The Ultra mat deluxe is a mat which fits the shape of the car seat.  You then place the car seat on top.  It has a great feel to it and not only is it non slip it is also very easy to wipe clean, or pick up and shake outside.  The Ultra Mat Deluxe has saved my car seats from some very messy situations.  What makes the Ultra mat deluxe really stand out is it contains a pouch which has a sun shade inside.  This sun shade can be placed over the car seat to stop it getting hot in hot weather.

The Ultra Mat deluxe even leaves adequate room for the isofix points and does not hinder installation of the car seat.

Stow and GO

The stow and go fits to the back of the cars car seat.  I found it a little tricky to attach the bottom straps but eventually figured it out.  There are plenty of pockets to hold most items needed for a car journey and are a great way to organise a car.  Better still they keep the car seat clean from dirty foot prints.

Travel pal

The travel pal fits perfectly on the middle seat of my car.  It gives the girls somewhere to store all the things they need on a car journey, such as books, magazines and treats.  It has two drinks bottles holders on the front, which my youngest struggled to get her drink back into.

There are some great net pockets on the side and inside features a divider with zip pocket.  It is another way to help keep the car organised.

Did your Christmas dinner table look like this afterwards?

Christmas dinner left overs

Lots of left overs and simply not enough pots to store everything in or space in the fridge.

Lucky for us we have a FoodSaver. The FoodSaver is a vacuum sealing system. To be honest I hadn't really heard of one before but if it enables me to waste less food and therefore save money I am definitely wanting to give it a try.

Breville Foodsaver

The FoodSaver works by vacuum packing food, removing air and therefore slowing down the decay process. Food still needs to be stored appropriately I.e. in the fridge or freezer but it is definitely a way to extend the life of a product.

breville foodsaver bags

The unit itself is easy to use featuring two buttons, one to seal and the other button vacuum seals. The plastic sheet is unrolled and you first seal the end, creating a bag. Measure out how much you need, leaving a gap to allow for sealing and then use the cutter to cut out a bag. Place food inside the bag, put the end of the bag in the drip tray and close the lid. If the lid is closed correctly the side hinges pop and show a green line.

green hinge

It took me a while to get the hinges to pop. You have to apply slight pressure on each side, but after a few goes I soon got the hang of it. For most foods simply press the main button to vacuum and seal. If the food is soft like strawberries, to prevent squashing press the seal button during the vacuum process. This ends the vacuum and seals the bag at that point.

That's it, the product is then vacuum sealed. The whole food item takes up much less space in the fridge or the freezer. Allowing me to see much better what food items I have. I the fore spend less because I don't over buy and there is less waste saving me money too. The unit fits neatly into a standard size kitchen cupboard.

I have also started sealing in a slightly larger bag, so that for things like sandwich meat I can open and reveal again. The sealing gets a little addictive and I look for food items to store using the  FoodSaver.

I was sent a FoodSaver for review.  All words are my own personal opinion
