This day I love.......

This time last year we were putting plans into place to meet a design consultant for our bathroom.  We love our house and are slowly putting our own stamp on each room.  However we left the bathroom, en suite and kitchen to last, so we could save up and do them properly.

The bathroom and en suite are top of our wish list, and last year we met with several design teams.  In June we found the design we wanted and had planned to put down a deposit on the design for work to start this month.  Only things changed when we discovered that Thing 3 would be joining us, and instead the deposit for the bathroom went towards a new car.

Our bathroom still looks tired and dated and I wish we could change it, but until we save up again, I am planning on sprucing up the bathroom with a few accessories.

Storage

We have some glass shelves in our bathroom which are looking a little cluttered.  I would love some storage baskets just to tidy the shelves up, and make them feel like new.  Along with a new laundry basket, I think they space would feel a lot brighter and fresher.

Towels

Our bathroom is a very neutral colour and whilst we are waiting to tile or decorate we can still add colour into the room.  One of the ways to do this would be through the towels.  I could use block colour, solid towels but instead I would love to add a real touch of luxury and add an Orla Kiely design.  I think this would really brighten up the room and make it feel like new

Bathroom Accessories

Adding bathroom accessories that match in with the colour scheme from the towels, would also help to uplift the whole room  These accessories can become a focal point for the room, and are something that can be changed really easily.

I would love to know what tips and ideas you have for updating the bathroom.  It maybe a while before we can save up for our dream bathroom.

When you have small children, their safety is your number one priority. After all, many children tend to be accident prone. When it comes to the bathroom, there are many hazards you need to consider. With a few simple home improvements, you can make sure that this room is safe for your kids to use.  Most changes are quick and easy to do.

1. Get a shower screen

It might surprise you to find that you can get some beautiful shower screens online. Not only will these things keep your kids safe, but they will also look attractive in your home. Choose a screen that is large so that it covers most of the bath area. That way, you will get the best level of protection from it.

2. Keep bleach out of the way

Children are naturally curious, it is one of the ways they discover the world around them. They always want to look at things and sometimes even taste them.  That is why it is important to keep any dangerous items out of their way. If you have bleach and medicine in a room, it needs to be out of their way.  Even better if you have a cabinet with a lock on it consider using this to store these items.

3. Use shower mats

The bottom of the bath or shower can be slippy and in order to prevent nasty falls it is worth investing in a bath mat. When your children get in and out of the bath, this step will mean that they are less likely to slip. You can get shower mats from most stores online. Look for a mat that has little suckers on the bottom of it, it is more likely to stay in place and be safer.

4. Remove any electrical items

Electricity and water don't mix. If you want to keep your kids safe, you need to make sure that you take any electrical items out of the bathroom. If you remove this temptation, it will mean that the bathroom is much safer. You should also teach your kids about the dangers of electricity. The more they understand about this subject, the more careful they will be.

5. Cover the water tap

When your kids are in the bath, the water tap can be a real danger. Your little ones could easily bang their heads on this thing and hurt themselves. The best thing you can do is cover up the tap so that it is safe. You can get little pillows to cover up this feature with ease.

What tips do you have for keeping the bathroom safe for children?

If you have been following my blog, you’ll know my family and I have been in the long, sometimes arduous process of redesigning our home. We’ve found a lot of fantastic ideas, some of which i’ve already written about on ways to restyle it. While researching I found some great ideas on how to redo a bathroom. It might be useful to those of you who are struggling with making your bathroom a more stylish, comfortable place to be.

Buy A New Bath

When you buy a new house, you’re often stuck with the white furniture in the bathroom that came with it. It’s not often that you buy a home where the previous owner has taken the bath with them! But, that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck with their old tub because you can still replace it. Their bath may not suit how you want the room to look, particularly if you are trying to save space. If you are looking to save some room, and make your suite look less cramped, buy a corner bath. These are perfect because they fit snuggly into the room and leave you plenty of space spare for other things. For instance, I always wanted to have a little chair in my bathroom. I think it’s quite a good place to sit and relax, particularly when it’s filled with steam.

Another extra tip is if you have kids, make sure you have a rubber safety mat on the bottom of your tub. This makes it less slippery and avoids accidents.

Upgrade The Shower

If you haven’t been keeping up to date with the latest styles in furniture you won’t know how luxurious showers have become. A shower used to be the poor man's wash choice but now a shower can be just as relaxing as a bath. There are many different designs to choose from including a wet room, for those who have difficulty with accessibility. You can see some of the different designs I’m talking about on http://www.bellabathrooms.co.uk/shower-enclosures.html.

Of course if you are not looking to completely renovate the room, you could just upgrade your shower pump. This will give you a stronger spray of water that will make your morning shower a far more enjoyable experience.

Add Little Accessories

By adding small accessories to the room you can really bring out it’s best features. For instance, I saw an idea online of styling each room in your house with family photos that match the room. So, if your bathroom was blue like the ocean, you could have pictures on the wall from when your family visited the beach. You could also stick shells and pebbles around the pictures.

You could add a long mirror to one of the walls of your bathroom. This makes the space seem bigger and is quite useful when you are trying to look your best in the morning.

Our main bathroom is used predominately by the girls.  My husband and I are lucky that we have an en suite so the girls tend to use the main bathroom as their own.  The girls however much prefer showers to baths, and our main bathroom does not really cater for this.  Whilst it is modern I think the girls would prefer something just for them

The girls would much prefer a shower bath which would give them more room to have a shower and more room to play something like these from Big bathroom suites.

The curve in the bath gives the girls much more space to splash and play and of course sing their favourite song, 'Let it go'.  Which gives me the inspiration for our bathroom, Frozen

To create the perfect ice/snow floor we would need some sparkling white tiles and for the walls we need to build them from ice bricks with splashes of Elsa blue

To give it a special feel I would hang an ice chandelier and paint snowflakes on the glass of the shower screen.  A final touch of a frozen inspired mirror would create the perfect space for the girls to sing 'Let it go'

Please take a look at more design ideas for my Frozen inspired bathroom

We moved into our house almost three years ago when my youngest was only a few weeks old.  At the time my focus was solely on my newborn and my eldest daughter who was under 2.  The girls are now older and at school which means I now have a few minutes to begin unpacking boxes, yes we have just started, and thinking about making changes to make the house feel more like ours.

One of the areas I want to change is the bathroom.  However, I like the bathroom with the exception of the bath and the taps.  The bath and the taps I feel let the overall bathroom down.

The old bathroom tap

Rather than change the entire bathroom suite, it is less expensive to make a few changes such as changing the taps to give the room a more update modern feel.  I also feel it will help make the room more of my design than someone else.

I began looking for a tap which had a modern feel and yet would not break the bank.  I came across Soakology and was impressed with the range.  Great taps with something to suit all tastes and all at affordable prices.  I selected my tap and was pleased with the speed of delivery.

modern tap

The tap is sleek and modern and features a waterfall spout.  Installation was straight forward and the whole look of the bathroom has been transformed.  By simply changing the taps in the bathroom the whole room has been brought up to date and made to feel more modern.  This is such a simple and inexpensive way to refresh a bathroom and to add a personal touch.

I was sent a tap from Soakology in exchange for this review.

As you may have read in part 1, I wanted to give a sneak peak to some of the items the girls will be unwrapping this Christmas. You may have read the girls will be getting a wooden dolls house and a princess castle, I therefore thought it would be lovely to also get them some wooden furniture to go inside.

I wanted wooden furniture as the castle and the house are both wooden and felt it would work much better. Plus I generally prefer wooden toys. I came across the sweet bee furniture range from big game hunters and knew this was the furniture fit for a princess.

You can purchase the furniture for individual rooms or as sets. Each set contains 3 rooms, and I have the bathroom, kitchen and children's room set.

The furniture is painted in lovely pastel colours with great attention to detail. The shower curtain opens for example and the chairs fit neatlys under the kitchen dresser. There is even toast/bread in the toaster. The great thing about these room sets is that they can be played with anywhere. They don't have to be kept in the house.

In the summer I can see the girls playing outside on the grass or in the sand with them, and because they are such good quality they will withstand the play. Each item fits neatly inside the dolls house and adds that little spark of imagination to the girls play.

I am really looking forward to watching stories unfold as the girls play with the furniture in the dolls house.

We were sent the furniture sent to review.  All words are my own opinion.
