This day I love.......: ice

The girls went to school today thinking it would just be a normal day. I on the other hand have been excited all day to pick them up from school. As usual the girls asked if we were doing anything in the playground and when I told them they were bouncing all the way home.

We had a rather quick dinner as we needed to travel to Leeds in rush hour traffic, but the rushing was all worth it for the surprise that greeted us

Little Man couldn't wait in line and was eager to meet Mickey Mouse, until the moment we got to the front of the queue. He then got scared and his big sister scooped him up. As soon as we walked away he wanted to go back again!

After pondering over the choices of popcorn, sweets and candy floss we finally took our seats. The girls were excited for the show to start and Little Man was just excited to eat popcorn. He didn't want to share though!

The show started with a warm up and Little Man started dancing. Mickey and friends then took to the ice and Little Man started pointing and clapping. The show started and we were transported through a variety of Disney worlds.

Little Man really got into the show and danced and clapped throughout, there are videos of him on my Instagram if you want to take a look. Both girls loved the show too and were singing along to their favourite songs.

As you would expect the show was great family entertainment, with all three of my children [ages 2 to 7] loving the performance. My youngest kept asking when she could ride in the boat, and my eldest kept pretending to be 'too old' for Disney, but she was loving every second!

We all had a fantastic evening and time seemed to fly by far too fast. We couldn't quite believe it when the show ended, it felt like it had only just began but sure enough it was time to head back out into the cold and to the car to make our way home.

The girls were still excited when we got in the car to go home. Each saying they had a fantastic evening. All the dancing had tired out Little Man who soon fell asleep.

With Grandma having the day off work we decided to spend the day having an adventure. The girls have been asking to go ice skating since our trip to Edinburgh and I found availability at Yorkshire Winter Wonderland. First though we had a very important stop to see Granddad at the airfield.

The girls and Little Man loved visiting Granddad, and both girls are eager to spend more time with the planes but we could not stop too long as Granddad was needed with the planes and we had reservations at the ice rink.

Whilst I had pre booked our time I was not able to pre book the helpers [those penguin/snowman things] and was informed they were all booked out for our session, alternatively we could move to a later session and have a skate aid. This meant we had a bit of time to wait so we made the most of it by having a hot chocolate.

Followed by spending some time on the Fairground rides. My eldest seemed to love the Dodgems although she drove very wild and I think was aiming for all the other cars. The fairground was full of traditional rides. The girls were just too small to ride the majority if them but they still had plenty of fun.

Before we knew it it was time to put on our skates and head out to the ice.

The girls were armed with their snowmen, and I was wondering how the next hour would go with two children on the ice. My eldest insisting she did not need the snowman or any help, but I managed to convince her to at least start with the snowman.

As the hour progressed the girls grew in confidence, my youngest seemed to take to it with ease whilst my eldest needed a little more practise. By the end of the hour both girls were skating confidently [with their snowmen] and even attempted without any help.

We left the ice and both girls stood at the side of the rink watching as the more professional skaters took to the ice. They stood captivated by the twirls and tricks.

As we left both girls asked to return to skate again, I feel we shall be making another visit to Yorkshire Winter Wonderland.

I often struggle to get my five a day, as do the girls. It's not that we don't try it's just it often doesn't happen. The girls in particular go through food phases, I think it's all part of growing up. My eldest at the moment is going through a phase where she won't eat things with colour. She doesn't class white as a colour so mash potato, cauliflower and bread seem to be her limiting choice.

One of the ways I often like to get my five a day is with juices and smoothies. The Breville blend-active is perfect to help with this. First the box contains 4 separate bottles. One for each member of our family. The lids for the bottles have a wide spout perfect for drinking thick smoothies out of. They can be a little stiff to open and close but I hope with time this will become easier.

Making a smoothie or juice couldn't be easier, put the ingredients into the bottle then screw on the base with the blades. This has a lovely thick edge so you don't feel you are going to cut your finger accidentally. Then screw the bottle onto the base. Make sure the grey dot aligns with the lock symbol. There is only one button which can be held to blend or pressed to pulse. That's it juice made. Remove the bottle from the base and swap the blade for a lid.

I have started making juices for the girls when I pick them up from school, so they can have a drink in the car. There is no messing about trying to pour into another container to drink from so less mess in making. This less mess makes me more inclined to use. The Breville blend active can also go in the dishwasher (not the motor unit) which means its also easy to clean up.

This is a great protein shake and brilliant for breakfast. I often have this before running.

My eldest daughter is now 3. I can't believe it. 3. Time really has flown by, I look at her and she is so grown up. 3. We started our celebrations bright and early this morning, she awoke at 5.30am. She opened her present and that was it I could not get her away from it

Whilst I was making breakfast I could hear her singing. She sang, incy wincy, did her abc and even sang happy birthday to herself. I loved listening to her sing and play.

We had to do some shopping in preparation for her party, but shopping is one of my daughters favourite things to do. After shopping she had her hair done and it looks ever so nice.

My eldest is a huge Monsters Inc and Toy story fan. I thought for her birthday I would take her to see Monsters Uni and it would also be the first time she had gone to the cinema. She was excited all day at the thought of seeing monsters.

She was really good inside the cinema, especially as she has never been before. She understood the film and asked a few questions, which you would expect. I think I am going to have to take her to another film now! We both loved the new Monsters film, it is very funny. She asked in the car if she could come to the big TV again. I am going to take that as she enjoyed it.

We stopped in at the toy shop before heading to dinner. We have a few birthdays coming up so I thought we would quickly pick up some presents. The girls had their own ideas and soon started taking toys from the shelves that they liked.

I am thinking I might have found what the girls want for Christmas.

The girls, my Mum and I then headed for a birthday meal. My youngest became fascinated with the ice in my drink and kept taking it out to play and have a look.

My eldest got to choose one of her favourite meals, Pizza. We opened her cards and some of her presents whilst we waited.

The waitress noticed her opening presents and asked me if it was her birthday. My daughter asked for some ice cream for desert. The waitress then brought out her ice cream with a candle in and we all sang happy birthday. She could not stop smiling and my youngest started to clap.

I had a lovely day with my girls and I hope my eldest loved her third birthday.
