This day I love.......

Although it was my daughters birthday yesterday I decided to treat her again tonight. Her Grandparents for her birthday have bought her a fitbit and at the moment she likes to find out how many steps she can do in a day. Imagine her delight when I told her that tonight we would be walking with dinosaurs. Only she thought we were actually going for a walk with them.

After explaining what was actually happening she got over the disappointment of not actually walking with them and began to get excited about the show itself. As we sat in the arena waiting for the show to start we could hear the roars of the dinosaurs echoing around us. Little Man heard them too and kept asking where the dinosaurs where.

Not knowing what to expect I wasn't really sure if Little Man would fully understand what was happening but he was completely captivated. He kept asking when they would come again. The girls listened as they were told many interesting dinosaur facts and watched with fascination as they were brought to life.

My youngest daughter kept asking if they were real. They were incredibly realistic, although I haven't actually met a dinosaur it is how I would imagine them to be. I was worried we might not be able to see but actually we saw so much detail even from sitting half way up the arena. Little Man was on the edge of his seat the entire night and got quite angry when the interval came on.

The show takes you on a discovery across the dinosaurs. Following evolution and how they changed and adapted through time. I found it really interesting to listen to and actually learnt quite a lot. The first half is 38 minutes followed by a 20 minute interval and a 42 minute second half. It honestly flew past and none of us wanted to leave our seats at the end.

We saw so many different types of dinosaurs. Ones I had never heard of before and of course everyone's favourite T-Rex made an appearance.

If you have chance to see the show I would highly recommend doing so. My 2 year old absolutely loved it, he was utterly captivated the entire evening. He knows nothing about dinosaurs! The girls also enjoyed the performance and I loved watching all the facts come to life. There was something for the whole family to enjoy. I also don't think I shall look at a bird the same way ever again.

We were invited to review the show and provided with tickets. All words are my own opinion.

World book day is fast approaching again.  You would assume that as my girls love to read that we would have no problems in deciding upon a costume for World book day, however the opposite is perhaps true.  I am almost 39 weeks pregnant and whilst I would love to make a costume for the girls I simply am not feeling up to it.

I have been looking around for costumes for the girls and have found a few I really like.

Morphsuits

Morphsuits are all in one suits which look fantastic.  They include a hood which goes over the face and I was not sure if they would make a suit suitable for children.  I have however found a selection of suits that fit even my youngest daughter.  They are all in one suits which are easy to put on, comfortable to wear and the girls think they are absolutely fantastic.  They have no problems seeing through the hoods.

Tiger and a bear

They have both been running around the house making 'Roar' sounds and have really got into the characters.  They would make perfect costumes for world book day and am thinking 'The Tiger who came to tea' and 'Goldilocks and the Three bears'

Dinosaurs

A few weeks ago my eldest dressed up as a dinosaur and really loved it.  She has been asking if I can find her a dinosaur costume again for her to dress up in.  I love the Raptor toddler costume here  and feel it would be a great costume for World Book day, and they could be Hocus Pocus Diplodocus

Dinosaur

A Princess

The girls both have their very own personalised books from Create Me books, you can win one here, and are each featured as a Princess in the books.

girls own princess books

I think it would be really great for them to go as the Princess from their very own book.  I found two princess dresses that match these in the book from the Disney store, who also have 25% off costumes and accessories.

Most of the school holidays it has rained so when we had a relatively dry day we decided to make the most of the weather.  My Mum treated the girls and I to a day out at Gulliver Kingdom.  Gulliver Kingdom in Matlock is a theme park for younger children and if I had to put an age on it I would say under 8s.  Everything is height based and your entry price is based on the height of your children.  This meant my youngest could go on the same rides as her sister, which were all but 3 rides in the park!

My eldest is a huge thrill seeker and much prefers roller coasters to the kiddy type rides.  Lucky for her there was a roller coaster she could ride and we went on it a few times.  My youngest wanted to go on the big wheel.  I am petrified of heights, and by petrified I mean I stand on a chair and I am scared of the height.  Gulliver Kingdom in Matlock is hilly, as Matlock itself is a very hilly place and with the big wheel on a hillside I was not too enthusiastic about this ride.  Needless to say when it stopped at the top I turned green.

After the fright from the height the girls jumped with fear when they spotted a dinosaur!

The only queues we encounter were in the dinosaur part of the park and as a result we didn't get to go on all of the rides.  Next time we will have to start here.  Our final part of the park was deliberate as it contained the log flume.  Neither girl had been on a log flume before and their comments on the way round of this is boring, and why are we sat in a boat had me giggling.  They soon got giddy when we started going up the ramp and then the scream as we plunged and splashed into the water below.  This was soon followed with cries of 'again!' to which we obliged.

The girls loved the log flume and I have a feeling we will be back to ride again.

This day I love a day out at Gulliver Kingdom

Jonty the Dinosaur could not go to sleep, is it because, he is cold? is he hot? is it too noisy?  This is a beautiful interactive story app for iPad, priced at £2.99.

main screen

The app allows children to interact with the story, via the Read it to Me button.  Unless you would prefer no interaction in which case select auto play.  A particular favourite of my daughters is the add to story mode.  In this you can add certain elements in to the story like an aeroplane flying past the window.

The music on the app is very pleasant and calming, which is great.  The colours and illustrations are also of a calming nature and encourage children to 'have a go'.  My daughters love to help with the pizza.

I love that in read it myself mode if your child becomes stuck on a word you can press it and it is read out loud for you.  I think this is a lovely way to encourage reading.

The app is currently available for iPad but soon will be available for eBook, Kindle Fire and other Apple devices.  The app collects no personal information, is completely add free and contains no in-app purchases.  It also does not transmit any personal information.

Everything about the Jonty the Dinosaur app has been thought out thoroughly including the loading page.

This truly is a beautiful app to own and one which my girls really enjoy

For the purpose of this review I was provided with a code to download the Jony the dinosaur app free of charge.  All words and opinions are my own.

We love books.  I love nothing more than sitting all cuddled up with my girls looking/reading a book together.  It is such a great way to spend time together and bond with the girls.  My eldest has always loved picking up a book and bringing it to me, from the time she figured out how to move and carry and now my youngest is following suit.

At Britmums Live I met with Parragon Books.  They kindly gave me three books to review and share with my daughters.

My youngest was given a hard back book, 'Peek a boo Rainbow'.  The lovely rainbow at the top acts as a little handle which my daughter carries the book around with.  It is a really lovely book to teach young children colours.  Each page looks at a different colour and features lovely stories and illustration.  The illustrations are wonderful for my daughter, who is 1, as they are a nice soft warming colour and the pages are not too busy for her.  She loves to put her fingers in the little peek a boo holes and point at the different pictures on the page.

My eldest really loves dragons and dinosaurs, it was great that her book from Parragon was all about Dinosaurs or rather 'Things you never knew about dinosaurs' by Giles Paley-Phillips.  The colours are really bright and bold which make them very eye catching and the amount of text on each page is pitched just right for reading to her, she is almost 3.  She loves to pick the book up and flick through all of the pages and make dinosaur sounds as she goes.  It really has captured her imagination.

Goodnight Little one by Margaret Wise Brown is now one of our bed time books.  We find the book very calming and peaceful and the illustrations reflect this with there dream like manor.  The relaxing story asks each animal in turn to close their eyes before asking the little child at the end.  I like the tone and feel to the story how it relaxes before bed.  A really lovely bed time read.

Tots100 latest challenge in the competition to win a family holiday to Center Parcs is Chocolate innovation.  I used to love going to the sweet shop at Center Parcs and this challenge has brought back some wonderful memories.

I asked my eldest daughter what comes out of an egg.  I expected the answer to be a chicken and so was going to make something with a chicken theme, instead her reply was 'a dinosaur'.  I did have to ask her several times to make sure I understood but her answer was a dinosaur.  For our 'Easter' themed chocolate innovation we have created a prehistoric pudding

First we made dirt

Ingredients

280ml whipping cream
120g chocolate
3 drops vanilla essence

Melt the chocolate.

Mix vanilla essence and whipping cream together, until starts to thicken.  Try not to drink all the cream

Then mix in using a whisk the chocolate.

Whip all the ingredients together and leave in fridge until ready to serve.  Lick the chocolate left over in the bowl

I made a jelly dinosaur using a dinosaur jelly mould before arranging them all to make a pudding.

I added some dinosaur eggs and some marshmallows to represent rocks although my eldest thought it was snow.  I think its quite clever of her to say a dinosaur comes from an egg.  What is even more impressive is that over the Easter weekend 'Walking with dinosaurs' arena tour is on in a city near us, we may have to go and see the show.

Having spent most of the night up with my eldest who was having some bad dreams, neither of us felt up to doing very much at all.  The weather kept hailing so outdoor play was out.  Which meant some indoor fun.

Whilst I was getting dressed my girls decided to create their own fun using all the toilet paper they could find in the house

toilet roll fun

I had to laugh because there was paper everywhere and the girls seemed so pleased with themselves.  All this fun tired out my youngest

My eldest helped me unpack a couple of boxes as  I still have not unpacked from our house move last year. It felt good to finally unpack a few, it has been very slow progress.

We spent the rest of the day sticking with various materials, my eldest wanted to make sheep and dinosaurs

Although we were not able to get outside and play, we have had quite a productive and busy day.  My eldest loved using different materials to make pictures with and I love watching her use her imagination.

This day I love toilet rolls, egg cartons and cotton wool.
