This day I love.......: jigsaw

Having had a very full on week which involved travelling to and from London 3 times and my total hours of sleep less than the number of days in the week I really wanted a lie in this Sunday. Unfortunately it was not to be, as I have kids with a love for the outdoors and exploring and so before most people had even opened their eyes we were out exploring the local park.

The crisp November air had a lovely fresh feel to it in the early hours and it was a great way to blow away the cobwebs and start a Sunday morning. The girls wrapped up warm in their coats from JoJo Maman Bébé.

Having two children in the same sized clothes can often be expensive as there are no hand me downs to be had. Their love to play outside and explore means I also need to buy clothes that can withstand mud and multiple washes, our washing machine is never off, and keep the girls warm as they explore and go on their adventures. JoJo Maman Bébé have thought of this with their multi buy offer. Buying clothes for the girls has never been easier.

The coats the girls are wearing also came in other colours and patterns, and are fleece lined. They are also reversible and so will last through all seasons, except perhaps summer. The girls love the chunky easy to use zips and my youngest is asking me to buy her some gloves to attach to the glove hooks inside the sleeves. They have certainly kept both girls warm through fireworks and through our morning stroll.

The girls loved running through the leaves and jumping over the piles of leaves that had been created. Although Little Man was in his pushchair he was beginning to get grumpy so we headed home. We completed homework and reading and then settled down to complete a jigsaw.

The girls decided to complete their new Ravensburger puzzle, Woodland Friends. The giant pieces were easy to assemble and a great size for both girls to handle. Little Man was very interested in the jigsaw and kept crawling over to take a look. It was perhaps the bright, colourful pictures that were drawing in his attention but he was very interested in the jigsaw.

Woodland friends kept the girls [and Little Man] busy for a good hour. The assembly was quick and simple but it was the discussion afterwards that followed. The girls asking if we had the birds in our trees that live in the garden. Asking the names of each bird, which I could answer as there is a handy guide included and asking if we could try and spot them in our garden too.

We spotted the birds on the jigsaw and then headed into the garden to see if we could spot any birds. It was really interesting and a great way to discuss the birds leaving for the winter months. Although only afternoon it had begun getting dark and due to the lack of birds we decided to head back inside for a snack before dinner.

I may not have got my Sunday lie in but I did get to spend lots of time with my little people.

Earlier this year we were invited to the launch of the iconic TV series Teletubbies. Since then the girls have become huge fans, and love watching them on Cbeebies. The launch of teletubbies also brought with it a range of toys from character options, some of which you can see here. My youngest still sleeps with her Laa Laa teletubbies, but we have one character missing Noo-Noo.

One of the latest toys from Character options is the Pull and Play giant Noo-Noo. Whilst aimed at children aged 18months to 4 years all three of my children (5months-6years) have interacted and enjoyed the giant Noo-Noo.

My eldest loves to pull the giant Noo-Noo so it makes sucking noises as she cleans up the giant custard splats, this makes her little brother laugh. As he grows he will also be able to pull and push the giant Noo-Noo so it is a toy that is going to last and grow with him. Noo-noo also has giant wobbly eyes just like in the TV show, which all three children find funny.

There are multiple activities on the pull and play giant Noo-Noo. My youngest has took great pride in showing her younger brother the 6 piece shape sorter. She talks to him about the different shapes and the different colours and he loves reaching out and grabbing them. The 3D teletubbies character jigsaw is also a big hit, with a little man fascinated by the contrasting colours and large pieces.

Both of these puzzles are perfect for developing hand eye coordination and problem solving. It is also lovely to see the girls adapt their game play to play with their younger brother and to see how much he loved playing with his sisters.

Once play has finished all pieces can be stored in the side of Noo-Noo which is a feature I really love. I like that everything can be tidied away and so that they can easily access the pieces when they are ready to play again. I can see a little man having a lot of fun with the a teletubbies giant pull and play Noo-Noo as he gets older, especially given how much the girls love to watch them on TV!

The wind was blowing a gale outside, the cold rain lashed against the windows and we desperately needed some colour and fun injecting into the weekend

There was only one thing for it, our Orchard Toys Woodland Party floor puzzle. With 70 pieces this was perfect for the girls on this miserable weekend. Bright and colourful pieces, and lots happening in the picture. First we had to sort the pieces.

Sorting puzzles pieces can be great for little minds. Discussing which pieces have bumps and which have a straight edge. Finding the magic corners and which pile do we think will be the biggest? Once sorted we began piecing together the edges.

The box states age 4 -7, my youngest is nearly 4 and could manage the puzzle with supervision, my eldest at 5 had no problems. The pieces are a lovely size for small hands

My youngest managed to do most of the edges herself. The picture on the box not only helped but it showed the shape of the piece and the image on each piece which meant she could match them up easier.

Once the edges were complete, the girls worked together to fill in the puzzle. They began asking each other for pieces, 'Can you see the blue trousers?' 'Where is the piece with the cake on?' It was lovely listening to them and watching them work together to complete the puzzle

As they were building they were discussing the puzzle together, 'look another fox' 'Oh, I can see a fox here too'.

It was not long before there was only one piece left!

After completing the puzzle, the girls began talking about what they could see. They decided that there was a game of hide and seek happening, and the girl was very good at handstands but not as good as them. They counted the squirrels and the badgers. We then decided to play 'I Spy' with the puzzle. My youngest has recently got to grips with phonics and so it was wonderful listening to her think about the start of words and even attempting to sound some words out.

Long after the puzzle was completed the girls were still playing and talking about what they could see. Pointing out different things as they found them. It took them a while though to find the squirrel taking photos!

It was really lovely watching the girls work together to complete the puzzle. It encouraged them to share and to talk to each other. I also loved that the puzzle continued long after it was finished and the they continued to spot different things happening in the picture, to encourage their imagination.
