This day I love.......

Autumn is here and with it brings a sense of excitement for my girls. They are huge Disney fans and every year I treat them to a visit to watch Disney on Ice. Every year I look forward to the show to see which characters will appear and the amazing choreography. This year I think we are in for a real treat.

Audiences will set sail with the wayfinder Moana as she makes her Sheffield debut live on ice in Disney On Ice presents Dream Big. This all-new production, produced by Feld Entertainment, assembles a collection of inspiring stories connected by a cast of characters with a desire to explore the depths, heights and horizons of their dreams. Alongside Moana and demigod Maui are eight tales of courage and heart, including Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Tangled. The production will visit FlyDSA Arena from 14th – 18th November 2018. Tickets are available from www.flydsaarena.co.uk or by phone on 0114 256 5656.

I am lucky enough to also offer a family ticket [4 tickets] to the opening night at Sheffield on Wednesday 14th November at 6.30pm. The tickets are for this showing and venue only and are non transferable. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning this great prize please follow the instructions below:

Although it was my daughters birthday yesterday I decided to treat her again tonight. Her Grandparents for her birthday have bought her a fitbit and at the moment she likes to find out how many steps she can do in a day. Imagine her delight when I told her that tonight we would be walking with dinosaurs. Only she thought we were actually going for a walk with them.

After explaining what was actually happening she got over the disappointment of not actually walking with them and began to get excited about the show itself. As we sat in the arena waiting for the show to start we could hear the roars of the dinosaurs echoing around us. Little Man heard them too and kept asking where the dinosaurs where.

Not knowing what to expect I wasn't really sure if Little Man would fully understand what was happening but he was completely captivated. He kept asking when they would come again. The girls listened as they were told many interesting dinosaur facts and watched with fascination as they were brought to life.

My youngest daughter kept asking if they were real. They were incredibly realistic, although I haven't actually met a dinosaur it is how I would imagine them to be. I was worried we might not be able to see but actually we saw so much detail even from sitting half way up the arena. Little Man was on the edge of his seat the entire night and got quite angry when the interval came on.

The show takes you on a discovery across the dinosaurs. Following evolution and how they changed and adapted through time. I found it really interesting to listen to and actually learnt quite a lot. The first half is 38 minutes followed by a 20 minute interval and a 42 minute second half. It honestly flew past and none of us wanted to leave our seats at the end.

We saw so many different types of dinosaurs. Ones I had never heard of before and of course everyone's favourite T-Rex made an appearance.

If you have chance to see the show I would highly recommend doing so. My 2 year old absolutely loved it, he was utterly captivated the entire evening. He knows nothing about dinosaurs! The girls also enjoyed the performance and I loved watching all the facts come to life. There was something for the whole family to enjoy. I also don't think I shall look at a bird the same way ever again.

We were invited to review the show and provided with tickets. All words are my own opinion.

We have just returned from a rather magical evening.  I picked the girls up from school as usual, only they got rather confused when I started driving in a different direction.  They soon guessed where we were headed as many of their school friends had been talking about Disney On Ice Passport To Adventure.

After a special treat of Five guys for dinner, we love the food there, I had a surprise for them.  We headed over the the FlyDSA arena in Sheffield and took a walk upstairs.  It was there that two special guests were waiting for them.  They could not believe their eyes and ran straight over rather excitedly.  Even the class teddy, which we have for the week, got in for the photo taking!

The excitement was far too much for Little Man who simply wanted to play with the balloons.  He had a bit of a tantrum when we had to go find our seats as he was unable to take the balloons with him.

We took our seats and having left the big camera at home knew I had my work cut out to get some ok photos.  The girls were incredibly excited, Little Man just looked confused.  Then the arena went dark, the show began and everyone was gripped by the lights on the ice.

The show focuses on multiple Disney stories, with a lot of focus seemingly on Peter Pan.  Whilst a well loved story I personally felt their was too much emphasis on Peter Pan and it could have been much shorter.  The main Peter Pan scene though was very captivating, and had Little Man's full attention.  Not sure if it was the bright lights, the pirate ship or the large crocodile but he certainly enjoyed it!

The second half seemed to go incredibly quickly.  Little Man was clapping along to the music and having a dance.  Before getting a bit tired and coming for a cuddle.  Then repeating and doing the same again.

The end scenes are often my favourite as there are many characters on the ice.  I prefer these busier scenes to the quieter ones where there are often only 2 characters on the ice.  I think the colour and energy is much more captivating.

The show seemed to be over really quickly, but actually it was 2 hours.  All three children behaved and sat through the show which I was pleased about.  I asked the girls their favourite parts and my youngest liked Little Mermaid and my eldest liked the Lion King.  Both girls asked why there was not as many princesses this year, or toy story so I had to explain the show is different.  My favourite to date is still the show with Rapunzel and the aerial acrobatics, it was amazing.

Disney on Ice holds a special place with myself and the girls, and hopefully Little Man too.  We love watching the performance and for us it signifies that Winter is coming.  This years show is certainly worth watching.

Last weekend we headed into Sheffield for the return of Big Fish Little Fish. The girls were incredibly excited to return having had so much fun the first time.  As we entered the nightclub everything seemed to be exactly the same as last time, and the girls made a dash for the Ice lolly and cake stand.

Before proceeding straight to the dance floor for some fantastic dance moves.  We noticed a few people with face paint and went to investigate, but unfortunately the price was just too high for me to be able to afford to have two children face painted.  The girls understood and had a quick play on some of the toys before we were asked to leave, as apparently my children at 4 and 6 were too old to play here.  I had wanted to take Little Man into the baby sensory area but again was told no.  When asked why 'Because older children are not permitted'  I was told my girls would have to be on the dance floor [unsupervised] should I want to enter the baby area with Little Man.  Not feeling comfortable having to leave the girls we all went back to the dance area together.

Whilst the girls were still excited I was a little disappointed not to be able to use the baby area, but decided to just enjoy our afternoon together.  We actually had a wonderful afternoon.  The girls got very creative making masks.

The big balloons were released and this got my youngest daughter very excited.  Last time she managed to catch one right at the very end of the night and as a result brought it home with her, this time she caught one with over an hour left.  She put up a bit of a resistance but eventually understood she could not hang on to it until the very end of the night.  This did not stop her from chasing it around all afternoon.

Little Man even enjoyed himself on the dance floor.  Bouncing and wiggling to some of the music.  He tried to catch all the balloons and bubbles that went past him, and his face was full of amazement at the flashing lights.

The girls didn't want to leave and have asked when they can go to the party with the big balloons again!

We were invited to Big Fish Little Fish, all words are my own opinion.

After taking the girls to school I met my Mum at the train station and we headed into Leeds.  I had heard great things about Leeds Christmas market and wanted to check it out for myself.  The market is a slight walk from the train station, and if you did not know where Millennium Square was you could end up getting a little lost.  Whilst the back drop was beautiful, the market itself was incredibly quiet.  I could not help but feel it might have been better situated in the main shopper area as it would see a greater footfall.

My Mum and I had a look around each stall, but nothing really jumped out at us.  Perhaps because it was a weekday but the market seemed very quiet and lacked any atmosphere.  It was still lovely to have a walk around and spend some time with my Mum.

Outside of the market and a little walk is another Christmas area with the Leeds wheel.

The modern structure of the wheel glistened against the afternoon sky.  There was no one on the wheel but I can imagine it would be a hive of activity in the evening.

After leaving the markets we walked back through the main city centre.  There was plenty of hustle and bustle as people bought Christmas presents and here is began to feel much more festive.

Our day seemed to rush past us and we hurried back to the train station.  I left the train just in time to pick the girls straight up from school and I quickly bundled them into the car to head to Sheffield

Upon arrival in Sheffield I had two very excited girls who realised we were here to see Disney On Ice.  My eldest is currently going through a phase of conflicting emotions.  She still gets excited but is not sure how to express it as she wants to appear grown up.  It is resulting in some very teenager like emotions!  I can tell though she was excited as she tried to act cool!

We were sat right at the top of the arena so I did not get many photos, but this did not deter from the enjoyment of the show.  This Disney On Ice broke away from the traditional format where we visit many different characters and see a snippet of each show, and instead focused on Frozen.

At the start of the show we were treated to a performance by a variety of the Disney characters before the main show began.  The main show telling the story of Frozen, which both girls know off by heart.

Having watched Disney On Ice before my girls both asked when the show finished 'Where the other stories are?'.  They were both expecting other stories as per the original Disney On Ice format, and my eldest was a little disappointed it was only frozen.  My youngest however accepted that it was the whole Frozen story instead of part of it.  Personally Disney on Ice was still as entertaining with the focus on one show than on multiple stories but my preference would be to have the previous format as I feel it offers more in terms of excitement for the children as they try to spot their favourite character.

Even though the format was different and perhaps not what the girls were expecting they both enjoyed the performance and left with big smiles on their faces!

This day I love a tale of two cities

My Mum and I took the girls on a little surprise trip.  They were very excited especially when they got to travel on the tram.

girls on the tram

We arrived in the city of Sheffield and my girls thought we were going shopping but we kept on walking towards the Moor.  The Moor has just been refurbished and has indoor markets, shops and also hosts events.  It was the event that had caught my attention, Beside the seaside.  I knew instantly upon reading it the girls would love it.  I was not wrong the second they saw the fair ground rides they were straight on them.

fair ground swings

Authentic seaside noises filled the air and if it was not for the surrounding shops you would be forgiven for thinking you were at a seaside resort.  In fact it was so authentic there were even donkeys to ride!

donkey ridesdonkey ride through the town

The only thing missing was the sea itself.  A huge beach [sandpit] surrounded by deckchairs and beach huts.  The beach even had lots of buckets and spades for any child to use, and my girls certainly wasted no time to begin playing in the sand

playing on the sand

I decided an ice cream sitting in a deckchair in the sun was the way forward.

deck chair selfie

I recorded a short video to give you a taste of The Moor Seaside, hope you enjoy.

We love to travel and explore new places, be it on a day trip or longer family holidays. A brand new family travel show is also opening its doors this October.  The family travel show will be at London Olympia from October 31st to November 1st.  Encompassing everything to do with family travel and with kids under 16 going free, it is sure to be a perfect family adventure!

I am pleased to be able to offer a pair of adult tickets to the Family travel show.  Simply follow instructions on the widget below which also has the full terms and conditions.

Good Luck

Our spotty dog is a RSPCA puppy. We re homed her when she was 18 weeks old and you can tell how pleased she is. I am a strong believe in rehoming, as many animals are there through no fault of there own. We were invited to attend a VIP day at the RSPCA in Sheffield and jumped at the chance.

RSPCA cake

We were initially given a talk on the work they do at the centre, and I was surprised to hear all the extra training they do with the animals. How they work hard to add enrichment into their lives and the different games they play. It is often hard when you go to a rescue kennel and see the dogs barking, but think how you would feel stuck in that small space not able to do the things you want to do. These dogs need understanding.

We had a tour of the centre and got to see some of the dogs and cats currently up for adoption. The girls wanted to play with the cats and they were given time to spend with some of the younger cats, my youngest was in her element.

meeting the cats

I personally loved the cat which reminded me of bagpuss.

bagpuss cat?

If you ever get the opportunity for a tour of a rescue centre I would strongly urge you to go, it is a real eye opener into the hard work that staff have to do in order to re home animals. It is also great to get more of an understanding of what these animals have to go through on a daily basis.

Thank you to RSPCA Sheffield.

January 4

the eldest and meAlthough cold and icy outside we braved the weather and went on a lovely walk.  I don't have many photos of me and the girls so had to share this one of me with my eldest

January 5

bit foggyI am now needing to increase my running as I have a confirmed place in the Yorkshire marathon, as well as various 10K.  The weather is miserable and running in zero visibility is not much fun

January 6

iced bunsA little bit of a nothing day.  A lovely run in much better visibility although still cold, lots of work to do and housework.  I am trying to take part in #snaphappybritmums and the theme today was ice.  I could not find any so took a photo of iced buns

January 7

Making cakesI had a really lovely day with my youngest today.  We played lots of games and I try to keep my technology use to a minimum so I can spend quality time with her.  She wanted to make some cakes and for the first time resisted eating all the cake mixture.  The icing mixture was a different story altogether.

January 8

view from roofAfter a run in the morning followed by a trip to the dentist it was date night.  My husband and I went out to Curzon cinema for a grand preview.  It was great to see the cinema and I loved the roof terrace.

spotty dog selfieThis might not be the best picture I have ever taken but it makes me smile!  I had taken the dogs for a walk and whilst putting my phone in my pocket accidentally  snapped this photo of spotty dog.

January 10

spotty dogThere appears to be blowing a gale outside.  The playhouse is broken, the bird table has been smashed and the trampoline is now relocated to somewhere unknown.  The dogs really did not want to go out and I think this picture says it all

My youngest daughter is rather clumsy.  She inherits it from me.  After a rather clumsy episode this week we needed a trip to the dentist.  My check up was due anyway and I thought it would be good to take the girls so they get used to what happens.

My youngest took Russell with her for comfort and he did a great job of sitting with her on the chair.  The girls asked me to go first so they could see what the dentist did, and my eldest kept asking for reassurance that they were not going to take out her teeth.  My eldest decided to take photos whilst I was in the chair but I have had to blur them because the dentist asked me to

at the dentist

My eldest went next and she was really good. She opened wide and the dentist said she had perfect teeth.  My youngest followed and she held tight to Russell.  The dentist checked and thankfully she hasn't damaged her teeth, just irritated her gum which should clear soon.  I was really proud of both my girls.  My eldest was so pleased when she came out, she got an Elsa sticker and the dentist did not take out any of her teeth.

After the dentist my Mum came round to watch the girls as it was date night.  My husband and I were going out for dinner and to check out the opening of a new cinema in Sheffield, Curzon cinema.  Whilst there were no films showing it was a real privilege to be shown around a day before it opened to the general public.

The cinema had 3 screens, all with really comfy chairs that reclined.  There was also lots of leg room which was lovely.  Curzon cinema had lots of little comfy nooks and a beautiful roof terrace.

Of course date night was also my husband birthday so when we got home it was time for birthday cake [the girls chose the candles]

This day I love date night and dentist

There was something magical in the air the night I told my eldest daughter we would be going to see Disney Princesses. Her face lit up and her smile was from ear to ear. She was very excited. I was lucky enough to be provided with tickets to Disney on ice at the Motorpoint arena in Sheffield. We settled into our seats and my daughter began to get excited to see the show.

Disney Dare to dream

My daughter saw Mickey and Minnie Mouse and she started pointing and shouting hello, very happy. The show followed the story of each of the Disney Princesses, starting with Tiana.

Princess Tiana

As the show progressed my daughter became more and more engrossed. She loved the story of Snow White and seeing the dwarves skate.

Cinderella

Since coming home she has talked non stop about Snow White, how she was silly to eat that apple when we all shouted to her not to. She said she should have listened to me! There was lots of music and singing and some incredibly beautiful choreography. The ice skaters are incredibly talented and how they did some of those moves must take years of dedication.

My daughters singing, dancing and excitement caught the attention of all those around her. The people sat at the side of us commented how lovely she was and said it was so lovely to see her enjoying herself. At 3 years old its so lovely to see how much of the story line she understood and how much she enjoyed it.

the carriage

My daughters favourite part was watching Tangled, the story of Rapunzel. Not a story I had read to her before she picked up the story very quickly. The dancers here were simply phenomenal. There was aerobatics and aerial dancing, such stunning and spell binding dancing. We were all fully captivated and loved every second.

Amazing dancingTangled on ice

Next year Disney on ice returns to the Motorpoint arena for the 23rd consecutive year, in November, with the show 100 years of Disney magic. Tickets go on sale in spring 2014, however there will be a little present for my daughter to open on Christmas Day. I will be giving her a present which means come spring I will be first in line to buy her Disney on ice tickets, because the look on my daughters face at how much she loved the show was priceless. There is simply only one word to describe Disney on ice, AMAZING!
