This day I love.......

Today is national sibling day.

The relationships between my three children are all very different. The girls are incredibly close, but with the closeness also comes an intense emotion which can result in arguments. Yet when apart they miss each other terribly. Little Man has a different relationship with each of his sisters, he watches exactly what they do and then copies them. He loves them both so much and rather than distinguishing between them would much rather shout 'Sisters' to gain both of their attention.

They have taught him the joys of jumping and splashing in puddles, he now has to jump in every single one!

When they paint or bake or craft, then he has to do the same.

They taught him how to blow out his candle on his birthday cake.

When they go to school he misses them. He finds their toys, their dolls and their babies and he sits with them.

I do often find it rather amusing he chooses to sit with the BABY Born sister doll, but he seems to like that one the best. Not sure if it's because the doll is bigger than the others, or the fact he sees his sisters playing with her often, or maybe because she can sit down next to him. Whatever it is he seems to enjoy her company.

He gets all excited when I tell him its time to go pick his sisters up from school. He runs to get his shoes and coat and attempts to put them on.

To see the three of them back together is so lovely, he misses his sisters. I feel lucky that I get to watch the bond between the three of them grow as they get older.

We are working with BABY Born for National sibling day.

The bond between the two girls grows stronger every day.  They have moments when they fight, like all siblings do but for the most part they love each other fiercely.  My youngest sees no difference between her and her sister, with 21 months between them she feels they are the same age.

The girls are very much opposites.  One is extremely competitive and has to win [at everything] and the other wants people to be happy so would loose on purpose so the other wins.  One loves everything pink and sparkly the other is less bothered.  One eats everything, and the other is incredibly fussy.  One loves to be outdoors and the other would much prefer to be inside.

Perhaps it is the opposites that unite them, they complement each other.

I asked them why they love each other and they both just replied because she my sister, and because I do.  They miss each other terribly when they are apart and ask non stop when they will see each other again.

The girls and their brother have been playing nicely with a new sister, BABY born Sister Doll.  The sister doll comes with everything you need to take care of her.  The girls take it in turn to feed her with her bottle.  Which also has to be carried in my changing bag at all times.  Little Man has took a shining to this and also the hair brush.  He tries to brush his own hair with it, whereas his sisters much prefer to do BABY born Sister Doll hair.

Clothes and shoes are also completely exchangeable across the BABY born range, which means our sister doll has a lot of outfits to choose already.

The BABY born Sister Doll has sparked lots of imaginative role play between all three of my children.  BABY born Sister Doll is a little bigger than traditional dolls so Little Man is unable to run away as quick with her when he picks her up.  The girls like this because they can catch him!

BABY born Sister Doll has started to come everywhere with us, and my youngest carefully packs a bag for her when we go out.  She seems to have fitted in really well!!

The BABY born Sister Doll was sent in exchange for this post

Today is national Sisters' day.

I am very lucky to have my sisters, and although one of them is no longer with us I still think about her every day and she will always be my sister.

My relationship with each of my sisters was completely different, neither better than the other just different.  I love how much my children love my sister and ask about her everyday, even though we do not see her as often as we would like.  They even talk about their Auntie who lives in the sky, which I love as it keeps her memory alive.

The bond between each of my children is different too.  Little Man is lucky he has two big sisters who absolutely love him.  Wanting to do everything, even help me change his nappy.  They want to help and do Mother him to some extent, but they are ever so proud of him and tell everyone he is their brother.

The girls are best friends.  They do fight and fall out, but that is to be expected.  A lot of people ask if they are twins, in fact most people do, which in some ways shows the special bond the two of them have.  Always with each other, always asking about each other and always whispering and giggling to each other.

We were hoping that the new Baby Born sister doll would be with us in time for National Sister day, but unfortunately she has not yet arrived.  We are, however looking forward to her arrival and will share our thoughts on social media.  She will make a great sister to the girls dolls [sorry babies] when she arrives!

This day I love National sister day

My sister and her partner had come over to visit which made for the perfect excuse for a family day out.  It had rained all week so we were weather watching for the weekend and thankfully the rain held long enough for us to enjoy a walk together.  The girls love exploring and of course splashing in all the muddy puddles

The girls loved seeing their Auntie and had so much fun running and playing with her and her partner.

It was great exploring the woodland as a family and so wonderful to find that the bluebells had started to appear.

A sure sign that Spring is certainly here.  A Spring walk would not be complete without seeing the ducks nesting on their eggs.

This day I love a family day out

Both girls absolutely love their brother.  They simply adore him and want to help with everything from feeding to bathing.  When we are out and about they burst with pride and want to tell everyone about their brother.

Afternoons used to be just my youngest and I, and whilst I miss this I also love watching the relationship that is forming between my two younger children.  My youngest is still trying to find her place, she has always been the youngest and the baby of the family and it is taking her some time to adjust.  In this process she is also learning to adapt to the big sister role.  A role she shows so much pride and joy over.

I watch from the sidelines with happiness at the bond that is developing

This day I love Sibling love

me and my sister

Happy birthday sister, I wish you were here to celebrate
I wish you were here to blow out the candles on your cake
I wish my girls, and Thing 3, had met you in real life,
and not know you as their Auntie that lives up in the sky

I wish you were here getting ready to go out
To see you smile and pull that pout
Another year older and another year gone by
I wish you were here and not up in the sky

I miss you sister more than you can possibly know
I wish you hadn't had to go
Love you forever and always
wish you were here to celebrate today.

This week can go down in history as the week with the lurgy.

Sunday

I really was not feeling well but felt I could not let the charity down and so took part in my first ever 10K road race.  I completed the race in 1 hour and 5 minutes which given the course and my health I was pleased with.

Monday

After a trip to the Dr for some cough medicine and dosing up on paracetamol we headed to Scarborough to visit the penguins.  SeaLife Scarborough have just opened penguin island, if you love penguins you have to go.

Tuesday

As April approaches I start looking back through old photos of my sister.  I came across this one and was so surprised at how much the girls look like my sister.  She would have been the same age as my youngest here, and I the same as my eldest.

Wednesday

I set up an Easter theme challenge for the girls using their CleverStix.  The girls love Cleverstix and really enjoyed the challenge.  As soon as I feel better I shall be adding the video to YouTube.

Thursday

Wanting to make the most of the day with just my eldest we headed to the shopping centre.  She needed new shoes and of course she wanted to see Cinderella.  Apologies to everyone in the cinema for the coughing, sneezing and nose blowing.

Friday

The week took its toll on all of us.  I had planned to go out to Nostell Priory and take part in their egg hunt but I could not move and neither could the girls.  We all felt really poorly and so a day on the sofa it was.

Saturday

My eldest is feeling better and my youngest has turned a corner.  She is still poorly but no where near as bad.  I have developed a nasty ear ache, on top of the cough and runny nose.  Whilst everything hurts I had to take the girls out so they could enjoy some fresh air.  It would not have been fair on my eldest otherwise.  I feel shocking but both girls had a lovely day at Nostell Priory.

Today is not a good day.

Leading up to today and for a few days after today I will go through a pattern of every emotion there is.  I know this because it has been the same for over 10 years.  Today just hurts, more so than this date over the past 10 years.  Today I should be out celebrating, it should be my sisters 30th Birthday.  Instead I took some flowers to her grave, sat on the cold cemetery floor and wished she was here.

for my sister

I kept myself busy all day.  Just doing things to take my mind off it.  I went for a run just to feel the cold air, I think I deliberately left my jacket at home.  Time seemed to go slow.

The girls have an understanding of who their Auntie is, although they have never met her.  They draw pictures for her and we talk about her.  My eldest found it difficult to comprehend that it is her birthday.  She asked lots of questions on the way home from school, but somehow this helped.  Somehow just having someone to talk about her with, someone who asked such innocent questions and passed no judgement made it easier.

Eldest daughter thank you for your inquisitive curious nature, thank you for talking to me on the way home  from school and for making me smile.  You helped me today more than you could possibly know.

Today was a day to be brave.  9 years ago on this day my younger sister fell asleep, I remember every minute of that day like it was yesterday.  I needed to be brave, I needed to be strong for my girls.  They are too young to understand.  They came with me and my Mum to the grave.  In some ways it made it easier having them there.  My eldest wanted to help with the flowers and they were both ever so good

helping

When we came home I needed to keep busy to take my mind off things.  I love to be outdoors and so I spent the afternoon with the girls in the garden.  My eldest helped me plant some plants

planting

It was incredibly hard work as I had to move the pebbles in order to plant, but I hope it will all be worth it when the plants grow and the garden starts to attract wildlife.

Whilst digging we came across a worm.  My eldest loves animals when they are far away but if they come up close she gets very scared.  The same happened with the worm.  I picked it up to show her it was ok, she slowly came round to the idea.  After a few minutes she asked if she could hold the worm.  This was incredibly brave for my daughter to do

holding the worm

I am ever so proud of her for doing so.  She did not want to put the worm back into the ground.  After a long question and answer on the worm she finally agreed to put him back to look after the plants.

There are certain moments in time that stay with you forever.  Some you cherish like the first time your child says Mama or the time you see those two pink lines and others you would rather forget.  A moment in time is one which can change in an instant. All is fine and well one moment and the next everything changes.  There are times when some moments you feel so down that the world seems such a dark place but in an instant it all changes when something just makes you smile.

Moments are such funny things, hard to explain and some easy to forget.  Capturing moments can be tricky too, how many of us have the actual footage of the very first time our child took their first steps?  Its a moment often taken by surprise.

I captured a very special moment today between my girls.  I don't know how, guess just in the right place at the right time.  Its an image that although not technically perfect is an image I love and a moment of love between my daughters.

We were sat waiting for our Baby Sing and Sign class to start both girls sat waiting excited on the carpet beside me, and this happened:

a moment between sisters

I do not know what was said between them, or what they did but they both just started laughing.  A special moment between two sisters that only they understand.  A clear sign that a bond is forming between them, a moment of love and happiness.

This day I love moments.

The 3rd February will always be a sad day for me.  9 years ago this year my younger sister passed away at the age of 19.  The 3rd February would have been her birthday we now call it her special day.  It comes perhaps as no surprise that I never feel like doing much on this day.

Before having my girls I would be very down on this day and not feel up to anything, but I now have my girls to look after and the last thing they want is their Mummy upset.  There are certain songs that remind me of my sister , when I hear them I burst into tears I just cannot help it.  One came on the radio whilst in the car before I had my youngest and my eldest could not understand why Mummy was so upset.  It was very difficult for me to explain, as a result I try to stay positive for them.

I show the girls her photo and try to explain who she is, but it saddens me that they will never meet their Auntie and she will never see them.  There is not a day that goes by that she is not in my thoughts.  We were close and had a special bond between us but that is not to say we did not have the odd disagreement or the perfect sister relationship.  The last thing she ever said to me was 'Those shoes do not go with that skirt' as I was leaving for my final term at university.  I remember the smile on her face as I left and the look she gave me as if she knew.

My girls have kept me positive today without them I think today I would be a total wreck.  I have held my youngest a little longer whilst she slept in my arms cuddling her and just thinking how much I love her.

My eldest is currently sat at the side of me and she keeps putting her arm around me, I think she senses how upset I am even though I am trying not to show it.  She won't go to sleep and rather than getting upset with her over it, I decided I want her next to me where I can cuddle her and tell her I love her.

sitting with mummy

I cannot imagine the pain my parents are experiencing today for I only really truly appreciated how much your children mean to you when I became a Mum.  My girls are my everything and without them I would be truly lost.

This day I love my girls.
