This day I love.......

In approximately one months time it will be Christmas. This year is simply flying past, I am not sure where the time is going? I try to be as organised as possible for Christmas shopping, trying where I can to spread the cost throughout the year and wherever possible buying in the sale to save until later in the year.

Some items I have to wait until closer to Christmas day to buy. My children tend to change their minds quite a lot, one minute liking one thing until the next trend comes along and it is here that I have to wait to see what the ‘in’ thing is and buy just before Christmas. With a two year old in tow though I much prefer to do this kind of shopping online. Well who wants to have a two year old having a tantrum in the middle of a shopping centre? I also don’t have the stress of trying to find a parking space, or have to battle through the crowds of people to simply then have to queue for hours on end just to pick up the last few things. Internet shopping is much easier and simply much more convenient.

Certain sites allow you to spread the cost of your online shopping as well. This makes shopping for Christmas much easier, as you can spread out the cost of those presents rather than having to pay in one go and stretching finances even further. Sites like catalogues247 have all the latest fashion and electrical in one place making it a one stop shop for Christmas shopping. There is also free delivery available so I don’t have the additional cost of delivery too.

Using a site like catalogues247 means I can purchase the final few items the girls have asked for for Christmas and spread the payment out throughout the year. I can tick off those wish items too! Then once Christmas is over, and finances are less stretched I can pay for the items and begin to look in the sale to get ready for next Christmas. I find it really does help to plan ahead as best you can and spread the cost throughout the year. Do you have any top tips for helping with the cost of Christmas?

These past few weeks have been absolutely rubbish.  Well rubbish work wise.  My laptop decided to pack in and so rather than buying a new one I tried the cheaper options of replacing the parts that had broken.  Only after waiting for parts to be delivered and then none of them actually solving the issue I had to bite the bullet, so to speak, and purchase a new laptop.

At the same time as this laptop fiasco was happening a new shop, Shopetino, opened and contacted me to giveaway 10 Limited Edition Shopetino Shoppers.  I have been trying for over 20 days to get this competition live.  It is almost impossible on my phone to do so.  In fact trying to code on my phone gave me a headache and I had to admit defeat.

Shopetino is a new lifestyle store for babies and children up to the age of eight focusing on clothing, accessories, jewellery and interiors. Shopetino showcases new, niche and independent brands that offer luxury and craft at affordable prices - such as Carlie Grace, XOKiddo, Jumbo & Friends, Gooseberry Fools, Mama & Belle, Sophie Home and many, many more.

I love the look and feel of Shopetino, and it is founded by a Mum too.  Please do head over and take a look and good luck in the giveaway.  Full terms and conditions including closing date and time can be found on the widget below:

As 2015 begins to come to an end it slowly is dawning upon me that in 2016 we will be adding another addition to the family.  Once Christmas is over with I only have 10 weeks to go at the very most until Thing 3 arrives.  I have been told that I am not allowed to go past my due date although this may change at the scan in February, when a delivery plan is put into place.

I have a few bits and pieces left to get for Thing 3 and the very fast approaching arrival and have been doing a lot of shopping online to find not only the best deals but also places where I can buy everything from.  I much prefer a one stop shop than having to get things from different places.  One such site I have been looking at is Online4Baby who offer everything I need.

The range available at Online4baby really impressed me as did the 1 hour delivery slots and of course the offers available.  One of the big items I need is somewhere for Thing3 to sleep when they visit my Mum and Dads house.  My Mum used to have a spare cot at her house but we no longer have it.  Not wanting to spend a huge amount of money a travel cot would be perfect.  they could use the travel cot for sleeping but it could also double up as a play pen during the day.  A travel cot can  be folded away after use, meaning it won;t take up as much space as a normal cot would do.

My Mum also needs toys for Thing3 such as an activity mat and general baby toys.  I have a few from when the girls were little but not many.  In the New Year I plan to look at pushchairs and car seats as this is the final big items from my list.  Having just bought a new 7 seater car we can now accommodate Thing 3 and a pushchair in the car.  We could not have done this in my old car.

Things are slowly coming together, I am hoping the flooring will be finished soon, then I can start unpacking the few boxes of the girls things that are left.  t maybe that I discover I need a few more bits, at least I know where to get them from this time!

Both my girls are very lucky in that Father Christmas gave them tablets for Christmas last year.  I am guessing they are not alone in owning tablets as most of their friends seem to have an iPad or at the very least have access to one.  Those that do not own one have probably asked for one for Christmas.  It would appear that our children are becoming very technology focused.

This is neither a good or bad thing, however as a parent we still want out children to be safe online and also where possible control/limit/manage the time spent online.  I know that if my girls use their tablets within an hour of bedtime they just cannot sleep.  The use of the internet and their tablets is the cause of many arguments in our house and I am guessing we are not alone.

HomeHalo offers a solution to the arguments and gives us total control over the internet usage for each different member in our household.  Each person has a profile, which you can then control the times of the day they can access the internet, turn on a homework mode to block certain distracting content and ensure age appropriate content for each profile.  You can set an 'Unlimited' profile to give you unrestricted access for your own profile setting if you wish.  HomeHalo uses cloud technology so it can be accessed anywhere using the app or via a web browser.

We have been using the HomeHalo system and it has not affected our existing services and has worked with all our wifi devices.  We found everything really simple to set up and it only took a few steps.  I was a little worried it might be over complicated but it was really easy to follow the instructions and get going.  HomeHalo also offers Internet security so protects against virus and malicious software.

Homehalo is certainly worth having to help give you extra security and peace of mind when your children access the Internet.  I know in our household we have found it useful in particular to control the times the girls can access the Internet.

This weekend it is Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  I have almost finished my Christmas shopping but plan to make the most of this weekend to finish those last few bits and pieces.  Spotty Dog and J are on my list to still buy for, so I have been searching for some great deals.

Petshop.co.uk have some Pawfect Presents and some great deals on other essentials for your furry friend.  There is a great offer across the site that when you spend £100 you receive a £10 voucher which is emailed to you within 7 days of placing the order.  I can certainly stock up on treats and presents for Spotty dog with this.  J birthday is also in January so a perfect excuse to be organised and get his present in early.

As well as the above they also have offers on the following:

1. EXTRA 20% Off Selected Brands:
James Wellbeloved, Royal Canin, Applaws

2. EXTRA £10 off all big bags of Hill's Science Plan

3. 12 Free Dog Trays when you buy any big bags of Huntland or Country Kitchen

4. 35% off Yumove Joint Supplement

What offer will you be taking advantage of?  I am looking forward to finally finding the Pawfect presents this weekend.

Last year I purchased a subscription to Reading Eggs.  I had seen a lot of adverts and information on Reading Eggs and I wanted to give it a go.

For those unfamiliar with Reading Eggs it helps children learn to read and is suitable from 3 years old.  Reading Eggs is an online program and you can often find a months trial for free.  It comprises of games for children to play and stories for them to interact with.

My eldest was first to try Reading Eggs and it soon became known as 'Sam Game'.  Reading Eggs has an ant called Sam who takes you through each activity and it is for this reason the girls ask to play Sam Game.

My eldest took to the game really quickly and soon started completing each task at great pace.  Clicking letters, helping Birds to fly across the jungle and composing story books.  Each one captured her attention and I think it is part of the reason she has a passion for reading and writing.

My youngest would sit and watch her sister play Sam game, and it never really dawned on me how much she was absorbing.  When she started school this year she started asking to play Sam game herself, and as she was asking I willing let her play.  She has taken to the game really well and has started recognising letters when we are out and in the books we read.

I really think Reading Eggs is a good supportive tool to use with children, however I let the girls choose when they want to play.  I don't want to force them to do it as I think it works much better when it comes from their request and they do request to play.  If you are looking for a tool to aid learning then Reading Eggs will do this in a fun and supportive way.

I purchased Reading Eggs and have not received any monetary compensation for this review

I remember the day we put our house on the market.  We decided to move to be closer to family, better schools and for more space.  What we didn't realise at the time was that I was pregnant with my youngest daughter.

Our house sold when I was 33 weeks pregnant, I was still working full time and I had an 18 month old to look after.  Stress didn't cover it.  What made things more stressful is the house we wanted had sold!  We were really disappointed but continued our house search with me heavily pregnant.  We fell in love with another house which went to auction.  Although we were the highest bidder the owners decided to sell to someone else as they felt they would move quicker.

As luck would have it the original house we wanted came back onto the market and we made an offer straight away, which was accepted.  Then the fun started.  We had to decide which survey to carry out, which solicitor package we wanted, factor in the different costs of moving and then wait for all the survey results to come back and act accordingly.  Some of the results that came back brought back unexpected results and we had to factor in these costs, costs of repairs, bills and other things we originally had not thought of.

I was getting closer to my due date and we still had not got a moving date, stress levels were high.  Whilst in labour we got a phone call to give us a completion date, which was then brought forwards and we ended up with 3 days to pack up the house and find a removal van.  I was tired, had a newborn baby, a 21 month old and really could have done with out the stress of moving.

I would have loved to have had a fairy godmother to explain exactly what was going on and when.  What would happen on moving day, if I had known the movers could have moved the cupboard with items still in them I would not have spent all the time packing things up.  Things such as the bills in the new home how to move them across to your name or even to think about ordering your furniture before you move so it is ready for your new home.  Yes we spent a month sitting on the floor until our sofa arrived.

Money Supermarket have devised the fairy godmother I needed.  An online tool that takes the stress out of moving and even has features built in to save you money.

Money Supermarket have thought about everything to do with moving home.  Even what to do with your pets.  Something that had not occurred to me until after we moved.  Remember to update the pet microchip details, vet and pet insurance details.  Money supermarket can also help you discover the cost of your happily every after.  This interactive tool is really simple to use and requires answers to a few short questions.  At the end it gives you an idea of the cost of moving.  I personally loved that the calculator stays with the fairy tale theme.

Whilst we have no plans to move again in the near future, at least I know that if we did I would have a fairy godmother on hand this time with Money Supermarket

I am a member of the Mumsnet Bloggers Network Research Panel, a group of parent bloggers who have volunteered to review products, services, events and brands for Mumsnet. I have not paid for the product or to attend an event. I have editorial control and retain full editorial integrity. I was given a voucher to thank me for blogging about MoneySuperMarket

It is time for our needed family holiday. We are very lucky to be going to Portugal thanks to a competition I won at Britmums last year to stay in a James villa. The girls are very excited and looking forward to going. I thought I would share with you some of my favourite items the girls have packed

The girls have been busy looking through clothing catalogues and online shopping to show me what they would like.  They have two pairs of footwear each one for day and other for evening. For the day I bought a beautiful pair of sandals from Marks and Spencer's, I love how they unfasten from the back. For evening they have a pair of Soludos from Sunuva. These are great slip on shoes and come in a huge range of patterns.

I always buy them a couple of shorts and t shirts from primark. They grow so fast and get so dirty that clothes which do not cost lots of money are essential. I also came across a beautiful pink star dress whilst in Primark which she loves to wear. All of these clothes are cotton so their skin can breathe easier in the warm weather.

the girls in their cotton dresses

The girls tried to pack lots of jumpers and vests but I have taken these out. They do have a cardigan and hoodie each in case it gets cold and these are from Matalan. Should we need a nice dress for an evening excursion the girls have a beautiful cotton dress from Sunuva each. These will keep them nice and cool in the hot weather.

The girls love looking at the fashion on sports direct as they do many of the girls favourite characters as clothing and shoes. They have both found a frozen t shirt from sports direct and my youngest has 2 Minnie Mouse themed dresses. The girls love looking online for their clothes and especially enjoy holiday shopping.

As a full time professional blogger I am often asked if I worry about the on-line presence my children have.  To some extent I am, which is one of the reasons I do not mention their names on-line.  The other is because my children have grown up with technology and it appears to be second nature to them to figure out how the Internet works.  It is this second part which worries me the most.

I was talking with some other Mums at school and one of them mentioned their 6 year old now wants an Instagram account because their friends have one too.  Is 6 too young for a social media account?  I would worry the content that my child would share, images of them in their school uniform which would lead people to finding out where they are.  Would sharing of certain images also lead to on-line bullying?

youngest on computer

Maybe I worry too much, or am too paranoid?  I know plenty of parents who share photos or status updates I would not dare to share.  Maybe I should worry less, or perhaps I am not alone.  A recent survey by Myvouchercodes looked at what parents worry about the most with their children using technology:

·         On line bullying – 58% Extremely Worried

·         Accessing adult content such as porn, swearing, nudity, sex and violence – 49% Extremely                 Worried

·         Sharing inappropriate images – 49% Extremely Worried

·         Grooming – 48% Concerned

·         Access to extremism – 44% Concerned

·         Addiction to social media – 57% Concerned

·         Effects on Education – 66% Concerned

·         Privacy – 55% Concerned

·         Effect on long term health – 49% Concerned

·         Running up huge bills. – 65% Not at all Worried

Both my girls do have their own tablets, but I like to think we have put measures in place to control some of our worries.  We limit their screen time and what they can view.  We also talk to them about on-line safety.  What measures have you put in place and how do you feel about children and technology, does it worry you?

I took part in the survey for My voucher codes.  I wanted to share the results with you as it made for an interesting piece.

My daughter was recently invited to try Disney Club Penguin.  Club Penguin is an MMO aimed at younger players.  Each player sets up their own virtual penguin and can play games in the winter world.  Club Penguin is aimed at children aged 6 - 14 years but users of any age can play.  As Club penguin is aimed at younger children one of my concerns was safety

We all know that online you can pretend to be anyone you want, and for me this is a huge worry when my children are online.  Given that the inability to see who you are talking to also gives some people extra confidence and this can lead to online bullying.

A major focus of the development of Club Penguin was on Internet safety.  Club Penguin features an 'Ultimate Safe Chat Mode' which filters out swearing and prevents the user from revealing personal information.  Club Penguin also send out a welcome pack which include 3 important rules to stay safe online.

Be cool - Treat people how you want to be treated
Be Heard - Make sure your parents know what you are doing online
Be Safe - Keep name, age and school top secret

There are also some great pointers for parents about talking to kids about online safety.  All of this combined helped to reassure my safety concerns.

Club Penguin was a little too old for my eldest, she is 4, so we didn't really get much experience in playing with the game to give it an in depth review.  From what I did see, it presents as you would expect from an MMO and there seemed to be a good number of users to interact with.  Everything was explained clearly, it is just a shame my 4 year old could not understand the concept of the game.

I was provided with a trial of Club Penguin in exchange for a post.  All words are my own opinion

kidsonestopshop have a new and improved online shopping site and a great community network.  The site is a one stop place for all baby needs from Maternity up to baby.  There is even a section to find the perfect gift.  The site has a nice clean look with everything easy to find from the drop down selections at the top.

kids one stop shop

I found the site easy to navigate and could use the search facility should there be an item I could not find.

The Parent and Kids zone brings together the kids one stop shop community and provides useful parenting advice as well as discussions and articles relevant to family life.  The Kids zone is brilliant. Its a place to find ideas for arts and crafts, recipes and things to do on a rainy day.

You are able to add your own ideas so as the more people join the more ideas there will be.  This will become a valuable resource to parents.  I also love the printable section, which gives another tool to entertain children on those rainy days when you cannot play outside.

I love it when you arrive home from work to discover the items you ordered on line have finally arrived.  I arrived home from a very long day at work to two parcels.  The girls could not wait to open them for me and really loved exploring the open box.  I just loved the way the girls used their imagination and played together with the contents of my shopping, it was really lovely to watch.

This day I love opening the box
