This day I love.......

I will openly admit to living in trainers. Once I have run a certain amount of miles in a pair of trainers they become my day to day shoes, until they fall apart and are no longer wearable. I guess that's just what I am used to. Trainers however do get a little cold now that the weather is turning, and it is time for something warmer.

Hotter shoes recently sent me a pair of their Melody boots to try out on my Autumn walks. I opted for a chestnut colour, as I simply preferred the colour. I am also used to lots of space in my running shoes, I wear at least a size bigger, as I find bigger shoes more comfortable as I run longer distances. I will admit to feeling a little worried there would not be enough space, or at least the space I am used to in my boots.

Actually I need not have worried there was plenty of space for me to wiggle my toes inside my boots. Whilst they are true to size I did not feel squished or compact or even squeezed into them, they were comfortable. I was surprised at how comfortable given I wear trainers all the time. The big question was could they handle the walk with the dog and toddler in tow too!

J was busy running around and sniffing everything, and the toddler was busy filling his pockets with rocks! I had no issues running around after them both, even changing speeds and directions with just as much ease as I would have in my trainers.

Wrapped up warm and with warm feet we decided to make the most of the day and go on an adventure. Little Man led the way and we went off to explore in the woods.

We had great fun exploring and playing in the leaves. Little Man collected lots of rocks and even made a few friends along the way.

J was just on constant look out for squirrels.

Lucky for me the grips on the boots were good so that when we did see a squirrel and obviously have to chase it, I didn't fall over!

I think Hotter shoes might have managed to convert me into wearing boots for my walks now in Autumn, they were just as comfy as my trainers but a lot warmer!

Thanks to Hotter for sending the boots in exchange for this post, all words are my own

I have had a busy but very fun couple of days.  Whilst the girls have been at school I have been getting rather creative and doing a few Halloween crafts!

Last year the girls loved trick or treating.  Our neighbours really seem to enjoy it too and most of the houses in our street are decorated, this in turn means the girls come away with quite a few treats.  Last year they filled their bags and started using their witches hats to carry more treats.  Unable to find any larger treat bags I decided to make them one.

I took a paper bag and hung it on the washing line with a clothes peg.  Then using black spray paint I carefully spray painted the bag.  As it was hanging on the washing line I could get all the way round the bag to paint all sides, and it dried well blowing in the breeze!

Once dried I drew a ghost and stuck this to the bag to act as a template,  Using the glow in the dark paint I sprayed the ghost shape onto the bag.  The result is a rather spooky Halloween trick or treat bag [the picture is a bit rubbish but my camera and phone could not pick up on the detail in the dark.

My girls seem to really love conker hunting at the minute, and I love that it gives us an excuse to spend more time outdoors.  However it does seem to mean that I have a house full of conkers.  We do put some of them back outside in our garden for the squirrels.

I took some of the very many conkers that the girls have and sprayed them orange.

The great thing about conkers is that they have a similar shape to pumpkins and when sprayed orange look like mini pumpkins.  Giving them a lighter spray means some of the conker brown still comes through as if they are stripped, and it gives it a more natural look to a real pumpkin.  Of course carving them would be rather tricky so I took my trusty permanent marker pen........

...... and drew some scary pumpkin faces on them!

When the girls came home from school they even drew a few scary faces on the mini pumpkins!

I am thinking of saving a few for Christmas and perhaps painting them white for snowmen?

All paints mentioned were provided free of charge, words are my own opinion.

Today was a gorgeous Autumn day.  The air had a crisp feel to it and the sun shone brightly.  It was the perfect day for an Autumn walk after school.  Little Man however was not impressed, and as I tried to strap him in his pushchair he twisted and turned and got rather annoyed at me.  I knew he did not need a nap and knew he was not hungry, he simply decided to say no to a pushchair.

Time constraints dictated that he had to because we had to get his sisters from school, but he refused and he refused the sling too.  Deciding therefore to ditch the pushchair I opted for his Yvolution Strolly.  Little Man has the Yvolution Strolly compact, which means I can fold it so it is perfect for popping in the back of the car and going on adventures.  It is really lightweight, but at the same time very sturdy so it makes pushing really easy.

Little Man loved reaching out and holding the handle bars.  The soft grips are perfect for his small hands and will grow with him.

I strapped him in with the adjustable harness and he rested his arms on the padded sides.  The seat does have two positions so I could recline him, but he was happy sitting up and looking out for his sisters.

After picking up his sisters we took a walk in the local park.  His sisters looking for conkers and Little Man simply enjoying the fresh air.  I could keep an eye on him as the back has a mesh panel, and he was protected from the sun with the folding sunshade. I even had space for a drink in my cup holder!  The Yvolution Strolly pushed really easily over the bumpy grass, and made light work of our walk in the park.  I was impressed with not only how easy it was to steer but also how well padded the handles were for me, which are also height adjustable.

We had a good walk through the park and it was lovely to see all the Autumn colours coming and the changes the season brings.  Little Man was rather pleased with himself too!  I can see the Yvolution coming on more adventures with us, and once he is bigger it even transforms into his very first trike!

As for the girls, well they were really pleased with their Autumn walk too and even found some Conkers!

This day I love Autumn Adventures

The Yvolution strolly was sent for review, all words are my own opinion.

Autumn is my favourite time of year.  I love the changes that take place, the variety of colours and how the weather starts warm, and then gradually the dark nights begin to set in to signify winter.  I love how nature simply changes right in front of you.

We have lived in our house for four years now, and every year without fail at the start of Autumn the ladybirds appear.  They appear in the same point and we get to watch the baby ladybirds turn into adults [I know that is not the technical term].

The large Oak tree in our garden is unfortunately having to be taken down this year, so the girls are busy gathering the acorns as we plan to plant them to try grow at least one new Oak tree.  We know it will take hundreds of years before it reaches the same point but we are really going to miss the Oak tree and wanted to try and do something to remember it.

In addition to acorns the girls have been out picking blackberries, although not quite ready yet they still enjoyed looking for them.

They only managed to gather a few, and so we decided to do something with them.

Inspired by the Forestry Commission Colour me Happy campaign the girls used nature to create a picture.  Using blackberries, sticks and the grass and leaves.  By rubbing them onto the canvas they could create colour.  We are hoping to go on an autumn trail at our local Forestry Commission soon, as we have been checking out their autumn activities.

We have had a really fun day today celebrating Autumn and enjoying the beautiful colours that is brings

This day I love Autumn is round the corner

Last week there was a rare Autumn afternoon and my youngest and I decided to make the most of it before picking up her sister from school.  We decided to go for a walk through the local woods.  As we walked the leaves began falling all around us and with the low Autumn sun it was really magical.  My youngest was captivated

My youngest began exploring more, taking in the most of her freedom and running round through the leaves.  Trying to catch the ones as they fell and chasing the shadows cast by the sun.  It was wonderful watching her.

We had just enough time to play hide and seek before picking up her sister from school, can you spot her?

This day I love Autumn hide and seek

We appear to be accumulating a lot of conkers at the minute and I have been wanting to do something with them that the girls would find fun.  I set up some paint and some conkers and invited them to play

We had a shallow sided cardboard lid which the girls wasted no time in putting to use.  Dipping the conkers in paint and placing them in the tray.

They would then tip the tray to allow the conkers to roll around until they ran out of paint.  They would repeat the process and took turns to tip and paint

Each conker made different shapes and patterns and the girls giggled as they rolled the conkers around.  They certainly enjoyed themselves and in the process created a master piece

I would say a successful activity with conkers that the girls enjoyed!

This day I love conker painting!

Autumn is finally here and with it the wonderful colours and smells that Autumn brings.  There is a crispness in the air and the Autumn sun adds a hint of warmth,  Bringing the Autumn indoors sees adding a touch of orange into the décor to replicate that warmth.  Earth colours to represent the falling leaves and keeping other areas neutral to highlight the oranges and browns.
The lounge becomes the main focal point for our family in Autumn.  Playing out in the leaves during the day, picking blackberries or even conker hunting before coming inside and cuddling up on the sofa to warm up.  A sofa large enough to accommodate us all is a must as is a nice throw to keep us warm and cushions to lounge on.

Autumn colours add a lot of warmth to a room.  The best way to achieve this is with accessories.  As the nights draw in and the clocks go back these accessories add the special touches to the room.  Clever mood lighting can easily be achieved and the scents of Autumn can be added using candles.  Which also add a relaxing atmosphere to the room.

Our lounge is the final room in the house to be decorated and I have started drawing inspiration from the season I love the most, Autumn.  I love everything from the scents to the colours.  The orange adding a touch of warmth onto a neutral pallet, bringing the outdoors in.  To make our lounge perfect it would need a wood burner which is something high on my list of items I would love.

We have a saying in our house that there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.  No matter what the weather the girls want to be outside exploring and provided they are dressed correctly we always try to embrace this.

The girls love to explore and for them it does not matter if we are exploring our own garden or further afield.  The change in season has seen a real change in our garden.  Autumn berries are blooming and the woods at the end of our garden are loosing their leaves giving the girls plenty to explore.

My eldest recently had a delivery from Muddy puddles of a 3 in 1 explorer jacket.  The 3 in 1 explorer jacket has a RRP of £59 and really is 3 jackets in 1.  With the current changing weather the 3 in 1 explorer jacket is perfect.  During the morning walk to school the weather is cold, frosty and misty, yet by school pick up it is warm and sunny.  My eldest wears the explorer jacket to school in a morning, and for the walk home unzips the inner fleece and wears just the outer olive coat.

The outer coat is the perfect rain coat, light weight, portable and waterproof.  Simple reflective details make it perfect for these Autumnal evenings and the large hood with fur details give it that something special.  The outer coat was simple to wipe down and keep clean.

The inner fleece can be attached to the outer jackets if needed to provide extra warmth and the perfect winter coat or worn on its own.  The fleece is incredibly soft and warming and can be washed.  My daughter is a little disappointed there are no pockets on the fleece coat for her to put her hands in to keep warm, but they are on the outer coat.

There are some excellent design features on the 3 in 1 explorer jacket.  As mentioned reflective stripes, the zips have been made with little fingers in mind and the elastic fastenings in the sleeves to attach the fleece are a great addition.  Alongside the zip are Velcro fastenings to give an extra protection from the outside elements.

We have had several comments from parents at school asking where we got our 3 in 1 explorer jacket from.  Parents have commented on the quality and how my eldest looks warm yet she has freedom to move and play.

My eldest normally takes a size 4-5 and the jacket she is wearing is a 5-6.  It is a little big on the sleeves, which is to be expected but seems to fit OK everywhere else.  She perhaps should be in a 6-7 to get a bit more wear out of it.  I do feel it will last for my youngest to wear next year, although she has taken to wearing the fleece already.

Both girls seem to really love the 3 in 1 explorer jacket from Muddy Puddles.  It is perfect for the school run, playing in and exploring.  Great as a waterproof jacket, fleece or as a winter coat.  Certainly a coat for many seasons and one which will last for next year also.

Muddy Puddles have asked me to rate the following out of 5:

Fit 4/5 - Surprised that my daughter who normally takes a 4-5 fits nicely in a 5-6

Quality  5/5

Durability  5/5

Comfort 5/5

Price 5/5

Practicality 5/5

We were sent the 3 in 1 explorer jacket in exchange for this review.  All words are my own opinion.

Other than the slight crisp in the air and the leaves on the ground, I think it feels rather warm for Autumn.  The girls are running around still warm in their jackets, no need for winter coats or hats. and we are making the most of this by exploring.

We decided to explore one of the local woods.  The girls loved running through the trees and kicking up all the leaves.

I loved watching them chase each other and they were happy with the freedom to explore.

Our spotty dog is also enjoying her walks more and whilst we still take it easy with her, she is starting to get excited at the sight of her lead and wanting to be outside more.  Of course all this walking does tire her out so when we get home we always have a sleepy spotty puppy.

We had such a wonderful afternoon playing in the leaves and exploring the woods.  A beautiful Autumn day

This day I love Autumn walks

Last year I made this video for the national trust 50 things to do before 11 3/4.

We have had so much fun ticking things off the list and have continued this year. One of my girls favourites has been making daisy chains, which you can read here. Last year we didn't manage to find any frog spawn or play conkers. We have created a wildlife pond in our garden in the hope of frog spawn, I shall keep you posted. We also recently collected some conkers.

After we collected our conkers it was time to show the girls how to play.  They got a little upset when I started to put the string on, but soon cheered up when I showed them what to do.

The girls had a lot of fun playing with their conkers.  They soon began inventing their own games with them and generally playing with both the ones on the string and off.  The great thing about the 50 things campaign form the National trust is that it gets children out and exploring nature.  Even in the Autumn there is plenty to explore and do.  What are you waiting for get outside and explore because nature misses you.

Autumn is my favourite time of the year.  I love the colours and the crisp air.  How everything changes, I think it is simply beautiful.  On one of our walks last week we came across signs that Autumn is almost here, blackberries.  I was a little surprised as I thought it a little early but the girls seemed really pleased.

We began our blackberry hunt

The girls might have eaten a few sneaky blackberries too.

After all that blackberry picking [and eating] it was time to splash in some muddy puddles.  Well what else would Princess want to do.

After our blackberry picking and splashing in mud we returned home to enjoy our blackberries.

This day I love Autumn days.

I love Autumn.  The colours are truly fantastic and Autumn sun, yes its a rarity,  is so lovely.  I love to be outdoors in the Autumn sun and love to play outside with the girls.  We ventured outside to have some fun with the leaves.  Living with woods in the back garden means we have a lot of leaves.

We first decided to make leaf pies.  Think Mud pies but with leaves.

Making leaf pie

It was not too long before the girls decided they wanted to make Mud pies so this then followed

Mud Pie

After exploring the different textures of the leaves to the mud and seeing how they formed different 'pies' we decided to explore the Autumn garden.  We saw how the berries have changed colour

Autumn berries

We talked about the different colours and looked to see what else we could find.  I had not seen any ladybirds this year, so imagine my surprise when we saw this

ladybirds

There were loads of ladybirds and several baby ladybirds too.  I was so surprised and incredibly happy.  I had to get the girls not to touch them, but we sat and watched them for a while.  It was a really lovely day exploring our garden and having fun in the Autumn sun

This day I love Autumn fun.
