This day I love.......

The items mentioned in this review have been provided in exchange for an honest review. There has been no financial incentive.

Shielding has ended and the world has begun to open up slowly, which means my son now no longer has to stay in and can venture back into the world again. I have been doing things very slowly with him but trying to explain calmly to a just turned 5 year old not to touch everything and keep his hands clean is very difficult.

I want him to not think that anything is different, I don't want him worrying about the outside world but at the same time I want to keep him as safe as I can. To be fair to him he is quite good with using hand gels but I do often get screams of it's too sticky!

Canal toys create some great activity toys, and so when they got in touch to ask if we wanted to try their Anti-bacterial slime I knew it would be something all three of my children would enjoy. All three of my children [ages 10, 8 and 5] love slime and are always asking for more.

Hand with two pots of slime

My 8 year old decided to test out the slime initially before working out which pot she was going to share with her siblings and which she was keeping for herself. She settled for the red one. First test was a smell, she decided there was a little smell similar to had gel but nothing strong. She then got to playing, and was surprised it wasn't too sticky or slimy and that she could stretch and see through it.

In fact she was incredibly impressed at how super stretchy it is. She loved playing and stretching it and moving it across her hands. All the time she was playing the anti bacterial properties in the slime were helping to keep her hands clean. The slime is alcohol free and holds its anti bacterial properties for a month.

Stretching red slime

What I have noticed as we start to venture out more, is that the hand gel tends to be high up. This makes it suitable  for adult use but less convenient for children, particularly my 5 year old. The anti bacterial slime comes in light weight, small pots which means it is super easy to put in your pocket or bag and carry with you. I can say with confidence that I can always get my 5 year old to play with slime but cannot always get him to use the hand gel.

The anti bacterial slime kills 99.9% of bacteria and is the first product of it's kind. Given how child friendly it is and convenient to carry I can see it accompanying us more as we start venturing out more.

Anti bacterial slime can be purchased from Smyths Toys and Amazon and is available in single pack RRP £2.99 or 4 pack RRP £9.99

My youngest daughter loves her babies and she loves to take care of them. She dresses them every morning before school, often before getting herself ready and every night she gets them ready for bed. She keeps telling me she wishes she was older so she can be a proper Mummy. When we got out more often than not we have at least one of her babies with us strapped into the car seat in the car, or in the pushchair when we go for a walk.

To aid her in looking after her babies she now also has a BABY born Wash Basin Water Fun. The BABY born Wash Basin Water Fun allows her to wash her babies and get them clean too. Whilst she is at school Little Man has also taken a liking to the Wash basin, mainly because of the lights and sounds but also because it has real water in it too.

The sink takes a minimal amount of water to work, but it provides hours of fun and also needs batteries. The sink has a removable cup and small pink toothbrush. When you remove this from the basin you hear the noise of brushing teeth. Little Man finds this rather amusing. I do watch him closely the entire time he has the toothbrush as it is rather small because it is designed for brushing Baby Born teeth.

Of course once you have brushed your teeth then it is time to get a wash. By pushing down on the tap water comes out.

Even at 2 years old Little Man can apply enough pressure to make water come out of the tap. Without the plug in the water simply runs back into the basin bowl.

The plug is a little yellow duck, which again Little Man finds really easy to put into the plug hole. This then allows water to stay in the sink so you can then wash your baby.

Once finished you can remove the duck to let the water drain away. There is a handy towel to dry baby or yourself on. Little Man the likes to check he is clean in the mirror, which lights up and plays sounds.

The BABY born Wash Basin Water Fun appeals to both my son at 2 years old and my daughter at nearly 6, so I would say it has a good range of ages. I like that you can use it as a tool to show children how to get ready by brushing teeth and washing faces with the use of their toys. My youngest loves that she has somewhere that is just for her babies and I think Little Man likes the fact he has somewhere to play with water inside! Overall this is a lovely accessory for any child who likes taking care of babies!

Thank you to Baby Born for sending the BABY born Wash Basin Water Fun for us to review, all words are my own opinion.

With two young children and 2 dogs running around it can be said that keeping our floor clean can be very time consuming.  If I do not sweep or vacuum the floor daily the build up of hair is noticeable.  My eldest daughter eczema is also triggered by dust and this is one of the reasons we have laminate/wooden/tile floors in almost every room.

I am now 27weeks pregnant and have been advised not to run the vacuum around because it is too heavy.  I tore my abdominal muscles and have had problems with my pelvis so anything heavy can aggravate the problem and could lead to further complications.  This means our current vacuum cleaner is too heavy for me to lift.

Imagine my excitement when an email arrived from Gtech to ask if I would like to try the new Gtech AirRam K9 vacuum cleaner.  The Gtech AirRam K9 is lightweight and weighs just 3.8kg, this is the same as my daughter weighed at birth.  It is therefore lightweight enough for me to use and as it has a specially designed brush-bar to resist the build up of pet hair it is perfect for cleaning up after our two dogs

I was very excited when the Gtech AirRam K9 arrived, it was actually as light weight as expected.  I was not sure what to expect as I have never used a cordless vacuum before and I was in some ways expecting there to be lots of pieces to assemble, especially when I saw the size of the box.  I was however really surprised, you simply clip the handle in place, then insert the battery and that is it ready to go.  There was also have a charge in our Gtech AirRam K9 which was around 20 minutes.

The Gtech AirRam K9 uses around 100W of energy whereas an average upright cleaner uses 1360W and has around a 40minute run time on a single charge.  It also comes with a Limited 2 year guarantee.  On laminate/tiles/wooden floors it simply glides along and you really do not have to put any effort into using it at all.  With carpets there is slightly more resistance but it is still really easy to manoeuvre.  It can also be used almost complete flat, meaning it can get under the bed to clean there only limited by the height of the AirRam itself.

Never having used a cordless vacuum before I was a little sceptical at how well it would actually clean.  Given that we have two dogs there is a fair bit of dog hair to collect.  I was so surprised and even my husband said that the cleaning power of the Gtech AirRam K9 is far superior to that of our current vacuum cleaner.

There are a few things you do need to be aware of though with the Gtech AirRam K9.  The brush bar is only able to pick up dirt on the forward motion, so if you run the cleaner backwards it will drag the dirt towards you, however going over the same spot in a forward action will pick it up.  Not a problem but worth remembering.  We were unable to use the Gtech AirRam K9 to clean stairs or small spaces such as the car.  There is a solution for this and that is the Gtech Multi.  The Gtech Multi is a handheld cordless solution to cleaning hard to reach places such as the car and stairs.

We live in a 4 bedroom detached house and a 40 minute charge is almost enough to clean the entire house.  We can certainly do all of the upstairs or all of the downstairs on one charge, but we need a little extra to do the full house.  There is a 1 hour boost charge which works to finish the rest of the house.  We tend to empty the dust tray after every other room, less upstairs because the dogs are not allowed upstairs.  There is a red warning light that comes on to say the tray is full.

Emptying the dust tray is really easy to do.  The dirt is compressed into bales so can be simply tipped out of the tray and into the bin.  We haven't had any issues with tangling of hair in the brush bar, but we do tend to try and stay on top of long hair by cutting it off the bar at the end of each use.  The Gtech AirRam K9 is incredibly impressive at lifting dog hair from carpet, even hair that has got wound into the carpet it seems to lift with no issue.

Overall we have been really impressed with the Gtech AirRam K9 cordless vacuum cleaner.  We are hoping to try the Gtech Multi next year and hope that this in addition to the Gtech AirRam K9 provides a complete cleaning solution.  The Gtech AirRam K9 is certainly a powerful cordless vacuum cleaner that if you have children and or pets will provide you with a great solution to keeping your floors clean and pet hair free.

We were sent a Gtech AirRam K9 for the purpose of review.  All words are my own opinion.

We are big animal lovers in our house and try wherever possible to do our bit to help.  Astonish is a brand we are familiar with and use quite a few of their products at home.  We were pleased to hear that Astonish have launched a limited edition Anti-bacterial cleanser that is raising money for the RSPCA.

Astonish are aiming to raise a total of £10,000.  The cleaner itself is Leaping Bunny Certified, Vegetarian Society approved and Vegan Society registered.

We have used the anti-bacterial cleanser in the kitchen, bathroom and on the areas in the kitchen we prepare food and are pleased to see the great cleaning power we associated with astonish.  Help to do your bit and raise funds for the RSPCA by buying the limited edition Astonish anti bacterial cleanser!

I was sent a bottle of the cleanser in exchange for this post, all words are my own opinion.

If your 3 year old is anything like mine then they often want to help with everything that you do. Take yesterday as an example, I was washing down the cupboard fronts after my daughter decided to pour honey down the front of them. She decided she would help me with the use of cotton wool, cotton wool and honey make a very interesting mix.

Today she decided she wanted to wash the kitchen door using a baby wipe with soap on it. Yes it took me ages to get the soap smears out of the door but I guess she is at least helping. The thing that scares me the most is when she picks up my sweeping brush, obviously it is too big for her so when she swings round we have those comedy ducking and jumping movements to avoid being hit by the brush.

I guess it rather fitting then that we have been sent a Casdon little helper to review. It does come with assembly which I would advise assembling whilst your little one is not present as it was a real struggle with mine constantly running off with pieces or trying to assemble herself. Also on assembly do not be afraid to apply pressure to the main trolley else the uprights will pop out very easily.

Once assembled the trolley is very light weight and easy to push. We have had a few topple incidents as it is very lightweight but these are occurring less frequently now she is getting used to the trolley. When the trolley did topple non of the items fell out which I guess shows how good the trolley is at keeping cleaning pieces in.

The only real disappointment for my daughter was that there was no where for her to put her baby. A minor point really as it is not intended as a trolley for babies, but I guess to a 3 year old she wanted somewhere for her baby to sit whilst she cleaned up.

The Casdon little helper really does have everything your little helper needs to help clean up.

The Casdon Little helped was sent in exchange for a review. All words are my own opinion.

Pearl and Silk Facial Mask

My house mate and I decided to try this today before a first date she’s going on tonight. I figured this would be a good excuse for some pampering. The instructions say to apply after cleansing so I started with a gentle oil based cleanser so as to not exfoliate my skin too much before the treatment. I really liked the pump dispenser on the bottle, it made application more like using a face wash and saved me from scooping product from a tub and getting it all stuck under my nails.

Unlike most face masks I've used, once applied, this one was pretty much invisible – hence no photos of me wearing the mask. It made my face a little shiny but mostly undetectable. Initially we both thought the mask had the feel of witch hazel, making our skin feel fresh and tingly. We left the mask for 10 minutes or so as instructed. It didn't really dry or tighten much like other masks but we could tell it was 'setting'. Whilst rinsing the mask we both noticed our skin felt much softer once the water touched it, then afterwards left us with a lovely refreshing coolness to our skin.

I love the smell of this product – it’s like a soft, powdery, witch hazel scent. Very refreshing! Overall it left our skin feeling tighter and smoother. I'm not sure if it’s my new favourite - I usually go for something thicker and creamier with a bit more of a scrub, but I like this product, and I think if you are after something more age-defying (which at 25 I'm not quite there yet) then I'd recommend this!

Michael todd products

Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub

I love this scrub. It left my skin feeling so fresh and cleansed after my weekend sins! The directions stated to use after cleansing; which I found a little unusual because generally i’d like to double up a scrub as a cleanser as well, but that’s just me being lazy I suppose. I started with the same oil based cleanser as before, I thought best not to irritate my skin too much before using this. The product was surprising gentle however – a dark grey, creamy wash with tiny sugar like beads. It smells amazing, similar to the mask but slightly more soapy. I reckon you could use this without cleansing before hand to wash away make-up a few times a week – although I wouldn't do this daily. I think the scrub was similar to the mask in a lot of ways but for the final result I personally prefer the scrub – simply because it’s more of what I look for in a product. It left me feeling refreshed and gave my skin a softer feel. I would recommend this product as an occasional skin reviver after heavy nights or busy weeks!

These products were sent for the purpose of reviews, all words are my own opinion.

Regular readers will know that my eldest daughter has eczema.  Her eczema seems to be triggered by dust.  My youngest daughter had an allergy to latex as a baby but thankfully she seems to be out growing this.  I myself have multiple allergies, bees, grass, certain pollens and caffeine.  As this week is allergy awareness week, I wanted to share a few facts about allergies

The latest NHS statistics reveal hospital admissions in England for allergic reactions are soaring to more than 20,000 each year, over 60% (12,560) of these are emergencies.  I worry greatly about what would happen to me if I had an allergic reaction which turned into an emergency.  According to Allergy UK I am not alone

 - Over two thirds (68%) of UK adults have no idea what to do if they saw someone suffering an allergic reaction
 - Almost half (44%) of allergy sufferers are living in daily fear of a reaction
 - Yet 66% of people don’t how to use an adrenaline pen which could help save lives

My daughter and I recently attended an event with ao.com to learn more about allergies.  I felt it was very important for her because as a child I was very aware that I was the kid with the allergies.  I wanted her to learn more about allergies and for her to understand that other children have allergies too.

on the look out for allergies

Ao.com had put on lots of activities for the children to do, and each one helped them to understand a little more about allergies.  We were also shown Hotpoint range of washing machines and tumble dryers.  They can remove 99.9% of major allergens during the wash cycle.  This is thanks to a combination of high temperature technologies and extra rinses.  The tumble dryers also feature an anti-allergy drying cycle.  Hotpoint is a name which I trust and these anti allergy technologies are certainly a feature which would persuade me to purchase a washing machine from Hotpoint.

After the event I began to look at other ways in which we could help to reduce dust mites in our home  The Healthy house provided me with a leaflet on dust mites and gave me some great ideas.  I use a mattress protector on my daughters bed, but I did not realise that in order to fully protect against dust mites it needs to fully encase the mattress.  We also use a pillow protector which helps to reduce the itching my daughter feels on her head.

I have also started using a product called HomeCleanse.  We are currently saving to replace the carpet in my daughters bedroom with wooden floors.  Replacing the flooring will help to reduce the dust mites and reduce my daughters eczema.  HomeCleanse I can spray onto the carpet and it helps to kill dust mites.  It is a great solution until we can replace the carpet in her room.

FabriCleanse is similar to HomeCleanse only it is placed into the washing machine.  Using both HomeCleanse and FabriCleanse I have certainly noticed a difference in my daughters skin, with her itching much less.  The products smell like eucalyptus which is also quite pleasant and refreshing.

As we approach prime hay fever season I would also love to know your tips for keeping allergies under control.

Having 2 children who love messy play means I end up doing a lot of wash loads. Added to messy play is the enjoyment of mud and the inability to pass an opportunity to play with water. My washing machine never stops.

I have several requirements with a washing machine

1. It must be easy to use, I do not have time to spend ages working out which button to press and when
2. I like it to have a quick and economical wash. Saves me time if the girls have only got something a little dirty.
3. It must be good economically, I do a lot of washing so I don't want it to cost a fortune to operate.
4. It must have a built in dryer as I do not have the space for both
5. I need to be able to do large wash loads, as I have a lot of washing and like to be able to wash duvets.

The Servis WD1496FGR appeared to match all our requirements and so when we were sent one to review I could not pass up the opportunity.

So far the Servis WD1496FGR has managed to live up to all my requirements. It has a quick wash which takes 12 minutes and thanks to some very clever built in intelligence means its very economical. It can work out how much washing you have put in and then let you know how much powder to add. Fantastic to save some money and not use more than needed detergent. The clever sensor also means you are aware if you over load your washing and this then stops you filling too much so your clothes are cleaned more efficiently.

The drum on the Servis WD1496FGR is huge! I can fit a king size duvet in with no problems, which is great for those emergencies when your child spills something on your bed. I tend to use the daily wash which takes 30 mins, and it gives me a range of options for temperature and spin speeds, therefore allowing me to tailor the wash program to my needs.

The Servis WD1496FGR is a rather clever machine and really lends a helping hand at keeping the washing pile down.

It's that time of year again when I push home the pushchair after a long walk and its covered in mud, as is the dog and our shoes/boots. It's so cold outside that the last thing I want to do is stand out in the cold and scrub the wheels of the pushchair or even wash the dog outside in the freezing cold. It seems to take forever, fingers go numb and there just seems to be an endless drip of water from the hose pipe.

This year Karcher saved our summer. Karcher gave the girls endless hours of entertainment running through the water jets and it looks like Karcher will also be saving winter. How? Well they have three great spray guns that have made my life so much easier

Premium spray lance

The premium spray lance is perfect for watering hanging baskets. Our tomatoes grow in hanging baskets and for whatever reason I struggled to water them properly with the watering can. Not only that but I'd also tip most of the water over myself. The premium spray lance helps to reach all those difficult places, like hanging baskets and saved my tomatoes. As a joke my husband also commented that we could attach it outside like an outdoor shower. I'm not sure we have the weather for it,but its certainly an idea.

Multifunctional spray gun premium

The girls loved this. This was perfect for watering the garden, water fights and washing the car. Easy to change between the different sprays and a quick and simple push on off button. The different spray jets, there are 4, meant I could water the garden and then go and wash the car or windows without having to change attachments.

Premium spray gun

Whilst this only has two options, mist to jet, this is perfect for getting mud off pushchairs and washing dogs. As karcher products have great power behind them too, I was able to clean the pushchair really quickly so I spent less time outside. Bonus for me as I could get I side faster and warm up.

Karcher has saved summer and saved winter, what's more if you are struggling with a Christmas present idea why not let karcher save your Christmas and pick one of the spray lances.

We were sent the spray guns for the purpose of review.  All words are my own personal opinion.

I used washable nappies with my daughters and washable wipes. I never thought for a second that simply just washing them would not be enough. Yet it surprised me to know that even after being washed at 40c bacteria can spread from the clothes to the washing machine and then to other clothes. It isn't just nappies and wipes, think about the number of leaky nappies on clothes or baby sick, these bacteria can spread too. Whilst I am not trying to scaremonger and I understand the need for some bacteria in order for us to develop immunity I also think its important to keep clothes and food surfaces clean.

The lunchbox is another place I struggle to keep clean. Crumbs often get lodged in the corners and even after washing and a rinse I still find them. Only 48% of parents clean and disinfect their child's lunch box daily. 90% of dishcloths are also contaminated with bacteria. The lunch box can then become a breeding ground for E.coli, salmonella and staph.aureus. The increase and decrease in temperature with lunch boxes helps the germs to multiple quickly.

Keeping the lunchbox cool by packing frozen water bottles inside is one way to control the temperature. Discarding left over food straight away will also help keep things clean.

The best thing to do though is follow the ABC

A - additional anti bacterial protection

Ensure using the correct anti bacterial products around the home and they are safe for all members of the family, including babies.

B - be aware of bacteria

Ensure good hand washing hygiene to help stop spread. Use a good anti bacterial hand wash. Wipe surfaces with a clean cloth. Help to minimise spread

C- clean hygienically

Make sure any surface that comes into contact with babies, young children or food are cleaned with antibacterial products. Ensure washed hygienically.

For lunch boxes or surfaces I use Dettol antibacterial surface cleanser or wipes. These have come in very handy with a puppy that isn't yet toilet trained. Dettol with e45 softness is great for keeping hands fresh and killing 99.9% of bacteria, perfect for hand washing.  I also regularly use Dettol Antibacterial laundry cleaner in my wash.  It has no smell to it and with a daughter with very sensitive skin she has had no adverse reaction to it.

I received some antibacterial wipes to write this post.  All words and opinions are my own

Opinion matters recently conducted a survey on behalf of Panasonic of 2000 adults in May 2014, they were looking at household chores and responsibilities.

The Panasonic domestic report found that modern busy mums are feeling the pressure to keep an immaculate home. I know this feeling all too well, particularly when I worked full time. I found it hard to balance time with the children and working, as well as looking after a house. The survey found that two thirds wish they could clean more but struggle to find time and 78% are embarrassed to have visitors round because of the mess.

Time is often the thing we wish we had more of. I refuse to do house work over the weekend as this is the time we spend together as a family and I think it is important to have this quality time together. I still clean up after ourselves and load the dishwasher etc. but not a major house clean. Others find the time when the children go to bed to do the housework.

As the children have gotten older they want to help and so often give them a duster and we clean together, singing songs and having a dance as we go. Cleaning with someone is much more fun and a great way to make it go faster.

Aggie Mackenzie

A top tip from Aggie Mackenzie is to skip the gym, no really. 30 minutes of vacuuming burns around 90 calories. We put music on and have a dance too and you could always engage your core as you stretch high to reach those curtain rails. Create your own workout at home whilst you make your home sparkling clean.

Others like to hire a cleaner although 75% admitted to cleaning before the cleaner comes so as to not show how untidy they really are. This results in a waste of £30million employing cleaners per year.

The best top tip from Aggie is making sure appliances are clean and in good working order. This can result in better more efficient appliances and therefore more effective cleaning. Cleaning washing machines regularly ensures cleaner clothes. I've also found that a steam iron is much better at ironing than a Traditional iron. It seems to be much quicker and gives a better finish meaning I spend less time ironing!

I would love to know your top tips for household chores.

I have not received monetary payment for this post.  It is written in collaboration with Panasonic.

Bleach? Cleaning products? I have been sat pondering what best to write about bleach and cleaning products. You see I could write a review about how I used the new Harpic white and shine to clean the bathroom. How thanks to the addition of baking soda, along with bleach I got a superior clean and how impressed I was. Or even how easy it was to use. I could also write about how Harpic limescale kills 99.9% bacteria, is 5x better than bleach and is amazing at removing lime scale. The thing is I want to try and write something a little different.

Yes I am impressed with the Harpic range at cleaning, and yes it is my preferred brand but did you know it can also be more than this? Ok so first let me give you a top tip for cleaning a bath and then something a little different.

Top tip

When we moved into our new house, we were very lucky to have a whirl pool bath in our bathroom. Cleaning the bath however is a little tricky, how do you get into all those jet pipes? How do you ensure all the little bugs and nasties are killed? So here is my tip, fill the bath with water just above the jets. Place a capful of Harpic white and shine into the water. Turn on the jets to full and leave for 10 minutes. The Harpic will clean out all the jets. Empty the bath, rinse and repeat the process but this time with the limescale remover. This will ensure that all the limescale is removed and the bath cleaned. Rinse and repeat one final time but this time just with the water and only for 5 minutes. This is just to remove any residue Harpic from the pipes of the bath.

Something a bit different

I wanted to try and do something a little creative, so I decided to make/customise a pair of leggings each for the girls for our Team Honk relay.  If like me you are a little accident prone you will know that bleach on clothes stains so I thought about using this to my advantage and staining the clothes deliberately.

I would like to add that bleach is a chemical, its not to be played with and therefore should you try this please wear gloves and do so in an appropriate area.

I mixed 1 part bleach to 1 part water in a spray bottle and marked out my design on the leggings.  I then sprayed the mixture over the design and left for a few minutes.

honk trousersTeam Honk Trousersbleach mixture

I rinsed the leggings in cold water after a few minutes to stop the bleaching process and left them to dry over night.  The next morning the leggings had bleached but unfortunately for me I had not left the mixture on long enough, so the pattern did not work.  At least I know for next time to leave it on longer!

bleached trousers

You can vaguely see an outline but you can definitely tell where the bleach has been.  I will try this again  but perhaps with a bigger picture and will leave on for longer.

I was provided with a bottle of Harpic for the purpose of review. Words and opinions are my own.

Having two very young children 3 and 1, I fully understand the pressures to try and get them to brush their teeth. My youngest prefers to suck the toothpaste from the toothbrush and my eldest would much rather brush for about a minute then sit and chew the toothbrush. Aqua fresh recently sent me an email which I found interesting.

I love to read with my kids but I've never before thought about reading to them whilst they brushed their teeth. The idea is that picking a story that lasts around 2 minutes keeps the children interested and they brush their teeth for 2 minutes. I gave it a try and found that the children where engaged in the story I was reading them, and stopped thinking about their teeth. Actually this proved to be great because they brushed their teeth and it made it fun for them.

eldest getting ready to brush teeth

The great thing about the aqua fresh range is that their products are fun and stand out. The bright colours of the milk teeth range appeal to my youngest and the fun animals appeal to my three year old. My eldest really loves that her tooth brush has a special lid and stands up by the sink. My youngest tooth brush is perfect for her tiny teeth. The brush is incredibly flexible and soft, which is great for protecting her soft gums.

Aquafresh toothbrushes

The girls are really enjoying brushing their teeth and listening to stories at the same time. They are eager to brush their teeth thanks to their fun aqua fresh tooth brushes. I am a happy mum knowing their teeth are very well cared for, with such a specially designed range for each stage of their teeth development.

The girls were sent an aquafresh toothbrush and toothpaste each for the purpose of this review.  All words are my own.

Maybe I have been a little naive but I always assumed that when I put my clothes in the washing machine they would come out clean.  I assumed wrongly that any bacteria / virus on the clothes would be killed in the wash.  However new researched commissioned by Dettol has discovered that bacteria linked to faeces is on 1 in 4 items of children's washed clothes.  I was really shocked when I read this.

Dettol Laundry cleanser kills 99.9% of bacteria.  It cleanses the machine and provides hygienically clean laundry.  I was sent a sample to try and I was a little worried that it may upset my daughters skin.  She suffers from eczema and a change in washing powder can result in a flare up.

I used the Dettol Laundry cleanser in a few loads in order to test fairly.  I found it very easy to use, either soak or put two capfuls in the softener drawer.  The clothes came out smelling clean, there was no over powering smell.  After drying and ironing the main test came as my daughter wore her clothes.

After a week she has not suffered a flare up and usually a change in powder a flare up would occur after a day or two.  This is great news as I know I can use Dettol to kill 99.9% bacteria, clean the washing machine and it does not upset my daughters skin!

For more top tips to ensure laundry is really clean and bacteria free there is a video from Dr Pixie McKenna

At the end of May I revealed the BIG project.  After cleaning all the play house and play equipment June has been spent doing repair work.  This has taken a lot longer than expected.  Mainly due to the intermittent weather but also for unseen circumstances.

Our first job was sanding.  We wanted to sand the climbing frame to make sure the surfaces are smooth to remove any 'splinter' related injuries to the children.  My eldest wanted to help.  She started looking for places that needed sanding

assessing the site

She then started sanding.

Sanding down

The original idea behind the project was to get the girls involved at the different stages so that they had more of a sense of achievement and an understanding of what had been done.

After the climbing frame we turned our attention to the play house.  This needed a lot more work.  The roof needed replacing.

A new wooden fascia was needed on both the front and rear of the house, as well as the wooden diamond decal at the top.

missing fascia

I was unsure what roof to buy or where to get it from having never done this before.  I had to do it at a point that my youngest was asleep and there was no chance of rain, as I did not want to get wet.  I searched the Internet and free ads for some time and then we found some felt in my Dads garage.

I took on the challenge of roofing the play house, and whilst I don't think I should give up my day job, I also don't think I did too bad a job.

I repaired the fascias, but unfortunately have not yet managed to find a diamond decal for the apex.

ready to paint

After all the repair works, it was time for my favourite part and that is painting.

Farrow & Ball have very kindly provided the paints for this part of the project.  I have to say with all the beautiful colours it was a very tough choice picking the ones we did.  We went for Elephants breath and Mouses Back in Exterior eggshell.  I just love the names!

I would describe the paint as smooth and creamy.  It went on really well and everything only needed one coat.  This was a great pleasant surprise and a real time saver especially when having to paint between daughters naps.  The paint dried very quickly which was also great when my eldest wanted to play in the play house whilst I was painting.  I also loved that I could wash the paint off my daughters hands with baby wipes and water.  Fantastic as she has sensitive skin.

I still have the main poles to paint, which will be the same colour as the house.  I also need to paint the door but not sure which colour to choose, would love to know your thoughts?

almost finished painted play house

I am really hoping this weekend stays nice so that I can finish painting the play house and the bridge, and then make a start on the climbing frame.  Since painting the playhouse both my husband and I keep stopping and looking out the window at it.  We cannot believe how different it looks.  It just goes to show how good quality paint can really transform and restore a 12 year old previously unloved playhouse, to a much loved and treasured play house that is going to grow with my girls for a good few years to come.

Something BIG has come to this day I love.  Its time to reveal, but first here is the background to the project.

A year ago we moved into our dream house, it had everything even a beautiful play house and swing slide set in the garden for the girls.  My eldest was keen to play on them and the first thing that happened was one of the rungs on the ladder broke,  We checked and did repair work to make it safe but the equipment and the house are 12 years old, never been painted or really looked after and so we kept doing more and more repairs.  We were then faced with a decision, do we keep making repairs or do we rip it all out a start again?  We decided that we would make do and mend.  We are incredibly lucky and grateful to have the equipment so lets restore it back to new.  Let's clean, fix and paint and get the girls involved.  Start a project with the girls so they can value their play equipment, want to play and take care of it.  More important let's get them outside playing.

So a project was born, lets Restore, Recycle and Renovate our outside play areas, so the girls can be inspired and motivated to care for them as they get older.  So they have somewhere safe to play and somewhere that will last as they grow older.

This bank holiday weekend we began our Project.  First up, cleaning!

Luckily we had sunshine for 3 days, day 1 was spent cleaning the playhouse and the other 2 days the swing slide set.

dirt

My husband and eldest got to work with the Karcher K2 Pressure washer along with the Karcher Wood detergent to clean the wooden frame.  As you can see from the above pictures the frame was incredibly dirty  from 12 years worth of outdoor dirt.

My husband set up the pressure washer really quickly and got to work.  As the idea behind the project is that the girls help too, my eldest could not believe her luck when she got to have a go.  The Karcher is so light to handle that she had no problems with it.  My husband stayed with her just in case though.

cleaning begins

The power of water from the vario lance and cleaning power from the Karcher K2 was absolutely amazing, it made really light work of all the dirt and debris on the wooden frame.  My husband did this patch in less than 20 seconds just to show me how good it really was.

Due to the Karcher K2 light weight and compact size my husband found it really easy to manoeuvre round the swing slide set.  The long handle made it really easy to push or pull.

Although it took 2 days to finally clean the swing slide set it would have taken a lot longer had it not been for the amazing cleaning power of the Karcher K2.

Of course my eldest did not want to clean all the swing slide set what she wanted to do was play on her bike from Galt toys.

red bike

She absolutely adores her bike, she loves the bright red colour and how easy it is to move.  She loves that it is as she puts it 'a proper bike'  It so easy for her to steer that she was riding up and down the patio for most of the day

bike

I love how well made it is, and that it is helping her gain better balance.  As she was having so much fun on her bike I could get on with the sanding whilst my husband cleaned.

We made a good start to our Restore, Recycle, Renovate project, the play house and swing slide set are amazingly clean.  I keep looking at them through the window in the pouring rain at how clean they are.  I managed to sand everything down, which means next job is repair work and painting.  My husband had fun with his new toy, a Karcher K2 pressure washer and my eldest had fun with her lovely red bike from Galt toys.  I cannot wait for Part 2!  Oh and the red bike from Galt toys has made its way indoors and is been rode up and down the hall way, its safe to say she enjoys it!

If you are undertaking a similar project at the moment, which encourages kids to play outside, Restoring, Recycling and Renovating Outdoor play spaces then please let me know and leave me a link in comments, thank you.

This Day I love the Big reveal.

We were very kindly sent a Karcher K2 pressure washer, and a bike from Galt toys,  The words used are my own honest opinion on the products.
